ON THE MAINFLOOR ::

Avery (District Soul :: DJ Hut :: Sahara Records)

Avery followed a very circuitous musical path while growing up in Silver Spring. At age 5, you would find young Avery making his first mixtapes aka “da pause mixes” by recording the radio. It was only a matter of time before he found his ways to the 1’s and 2’s. By 1994, Avery embarked on his career as a DJ. As a freshman at St. Mary’s College, he pioneered the first house music radio show. He held two more radio shows at University of MD working alongside the infamous DC hiphop legends The Soul Controllers. In 2000, he and Johnson Lee founded District Soul and DistrictSoul.com. His skills behind the decks have landed him several awards including runner up in both the house and downtempo categories for Urb Magazine’s 1st Annual mixtape contest. After producing tracks for 5 years, he is primed and ready for his first official releases coming later in 2003. His style may be eclectic and wide-ranged, but you’ll be sure that culo shakes!

LBS (District Soul :: Booze Brothers, Inc.)

Raised on the mean streets of Silver Spring, the sweet sounds of soul and dance were the only escape for young LBS. For 8 years now the District has provided a playground to explore music. Teaming up with his District Soul brethren in Y2G gave inspiration to the funk and sex his sound created; a self-described “single color in a mural of grooves”. Through residencies and random appearances around da Big Chocolate he’s left people saying “Huh?” the morning after. On any given night, you can hear Jeru to Kerri Chandler to Donna Summer, guaranteed head nods from the drunks at the bar to the ladies in the bathroom stalls. Find LBS traveling aimlessly or playing somewhere this Fall.

Johnson Lee (District Soul :: Joe's Record Paradise)

Johnson Lee currently works in his father’s infamous record store, Joe's Record Paradise. He can be heard every Sunday during the summer at Club 5 on the rooftop. His style ranges from lounge to reggae to house and it all rocks the crowd. After founding District Soul with Avery in 2000, he has created the infamous and coveted line of FreeForm mixes. Be sure to get the latest copy or check them out online at DistrictSoul.com

ON THE ROOFTOP ::

Bobby Jae (District Soul :: DCDNB.ORG)

Bobby Jae's unique style of deep, groovy drum n bass has made him a local favorite in the DC jungle scene. His current record selection weighs heavily on the swerve sound – smooth, house-inspired breakbeats with a hint of jazz and funk. Favorite labels include Creative Source, 31 Records, V Recordings and the new Soul:r. Although relatively new in the drum n bass scene, Bobby Jae has managed impressive sets at parties such as Bang the Spot, Sunday Night Sessions, Act Your Age, and Buzz. A sample of this can be found in the “Perpetual Motion” CD, which is currently circulating around the DC/Baltimore area.

D-Sharp (District Soul :: Booze Brothers, Inc. :: Shine)

The newest member of the crew, this hip hop veteran returns to his hometown D.C. after rocking clubs, mixshows and cd's all over South Beach. Playing a choice and diverse selection covering all genres of music, expect the unexpected whenever D-Sharp is behind the decks.
