Thoughts on Commercialism vs. Prog/Tech/Deep/etc in NJ

Recommended Posts

I've been asking more and more people this lately and I'm curious to know what some of you think on the board.

Commercial vs. Tech/Breaks/Deep/Progressive etc.

Surf Club this summer on Sundays main events which included Macaluso, Bailey, Tom Stephan, Ojeda, Boris, Tim Deluxe, etc. etc. are all DJ's who are not isolated to playing Commercial music, and some of the above did not play a single commercial song at all, but yet all of them had Surf Club rockin'

Rich Rydell at Metro Fridays was playing more tech/hard progressive but keeping it familiar at times (which I think is the best route) and that party as we all know was insane!

Deko Lounge has Richie Santana on Saturday nights and I sure as hell know he isn't killin commercial tracks over there

These 3 parties have been or were very sucessful(RIP Metro)... My question is this... do you guys enjoy the commercial scene more as opposed to the tech/tribal/progressive scene? and if you love the tech/tribal/deep/break scene do you want to see more of that influence in new jersey nightclubs? in not talking about Lounges and Small clubs, but i am saying the reputable nightclubs around.

from my own personal standpoint, i've come to think that playing any music you can to get the job done is correct, and if you have to keep it familiar at times, then by all means do so. for the first time since metro lounge at joeys i played alot of really really hard progressive, hard tribal, with some commercial accapella influence, and it went over better than i had planned.

Im just curious as to what people think, please dont anyone take this the wrong way. thanks! :)

peace

I like Commercial music when I am out to places like Surf Club...to me it just fits the mold...Surf Club...in my mind is more about hearing music that everyone knows because it is a place that is very social...That is why Kirk Lopez is best for that spot...he plays shit everyone knows and enjoys.....you can talk and still hear the music...there it is more about being with friends and chilling out...After 8pm....I do not enjoy Surf Club anymore....my hours are 11am-8pm...After 8pm...the wrong crowd develops and it turns into the dungeon I hate..Only time I go on the dance floor is to cut to the bathroom....

I enjoy the tribal/trance for places like Deko...more lounge type atmoshphere...
