Miles Maeda was one of the pioneering members of the Chicago music scene in the early to mid 90s. Alongside his colleagues Derrick Carter and Mark Farina, he helped shape the city’s club and rave scene from ’92-‘95 while developing his own unique style, which is almost unheard of for someone not being a Chicago native. His classical background and training inspired him to experiment in many different styles and genres, which shone forth in his prolific studio recordings and live performances. This allowed him to have a certain artistic freedom that spawned projects, which were to enrich Chicago for many years.

With his partners dJ Colette and Josh Werner (Antenna), he co-founded the ‘Material’ event at Shelter which was the only night supporting and featuring new house music in the city in ’94-‘96. It provided a home for Derrick Carter, Mark Farina, Sneak, Diz, Cajmere, Moodyman, Herbert, and many others.

He also helped develop an ambient night, ‘Atmospheric Audio Chair’, with Josh and label owner Ken Waagner (Hit It) from ’93-’95 which was a favorite haunt of one Mixmaster Morris.

And his current residency at the Smartbar, celebrating 5 years running from ’98-’03, has also been an anchor in the new house music scene along with nights featuring co-residents dJ Heather, dJ Colette, and Justin Long (No Assembly Required).

Miles' creative projects continued to blossom after his relocation to San Diego from '95-'00 which is when he also collaborated with the Panhandle boys mixing their premier exhibition CD ('A Tourist's Guide to the Realization of Your Own Buddha Nature') His most recent CD mixes celebrate his 5 years at Smartbar (‘Nightshade’) and the 1 year anniversary of his weekly residency in San Diego (‘Livin^’). And his soon to be released Ep on Anonymous ‘Concrete Pop’ is the long anticipated follow up to his risqué EP on Siesta (‘So Hot’/’The Song Formerly Known As…’).

And if that wasn’t enough, Miles is also a certified yoga teacher (World Evolution Yoga) and travels the world (Traveling Love Show) to share these powerful tools of transformation, alongside his DJ show. He also runs a dJ program (dJ Evolution) for people wishing to cultivate a deeper creative connection to dJing and electronic music production. And soon he is to launch his new CD through Smartbar & Guidance, ‘The New House Sound of Chicago’, along with a 6 track Ep on Aroma Records, which will culminate in a US/European/Japan tour in the Spring of 2004.
