After a huge party in Miami, a string of successful house music releases ‘Defected’ must surely be one of the most in-form house labels of 2004. Riding on the wave of good times, the label has launched a new imprint in the form of ‘In The House Records’ (ITH) and have earmarked April 26 for their first release.

Speaking about the new label Defected’s Toni Tambourine describes its approach and vision:

This is a special imprint designed to be a new facility for Defected. It will allow us to work with and develop different styles of artists, both new and established, away from the main label. The sound will be predominantly soulful and vocal but may venture into deeper grooves and cuts. Further good news is that this label will provide us with the facility to make selected tracks available from our In The House compilation series. This gives DJ’s the chance to grab the 12†for their sets. Perfect.

First release will be Masters At Work’s 1993 classic ‘I Can’t Get No sleep’ feat India. An instant hit back then, the record was untouched until now, but copyright has added its on flavour on the a-side with a tight re-edit, whilst the B-side houses The Latin Project’s ‘Lei Lo Lai’ MAW mix.

The Defected label continues to go from strength to strength and its great to see as some labels become recluse, others are willing to expand and take risks to push a new sound.
