But to try and answer your question, our siginifcant aspects of our culture is capitalism and personal wealth. It comes down to greed. That is our significant cultural aspect. The point is, Tony, is that greed -- for lack of a better word -- is good. Greed is right. Greed works. Greed clarifies, cuts through, and captures the essence of the evolutionary spirit. Greed, in all of its forms -- greed for life, for money, for love, knowledge -- has marked the upward surge of mankind. And greed -- you mark my words -- will not only save clubplanet, but that other malfunctioning corporation called the USA Trust me greed is a bitch especially when it comes to the well being of a country. Haiti's problem for example has always been 2 much greed and 2 little pride. USA needs no saving now, but if it did the answer would probably be pride in the culture, history, and of the people. Greed on the other hand would destroy the place.

No worries about the "hating"..

fliptoniaaa
i agree with some of what saleens is saying about greed, but as the saying goes....everything in excess is bound to be bad, and to much greed is exactly that bad!!!!!!!!!!!!!

mursa
In terms of Culture , the US doesnt have any ........the only thing this country has is the prospect of making $$$$ and being materialistically wealthy , whether by hard work or by screwing others . Because in terms of society-culture and overall way of life...this country is still light years from Europe . PS.. don't forget that the US is around 250 yrs old , while many european countries are nearly 1000 .

pod
Blah blah blah. I disagree. By the strict definition, the US has culture. It may not be to your liking, but it is culture nonetheless. Our culture consists of zeroes and ones whereas other people's cultures are on paper and stone tablets.

Along with the common trait of american society being so Superficial & Materialistic adds a further negative blow to what some would call "the american culture" . what is more rampant in the US than any other country? murder? lust? gluttony? yeah right!!!! there are places where genocide is wiping out entire communities, where 90% of the country doesn't even have drinking water while their leaders are sitting on gold toilets using silk to wipe their asses. and superficiality? The US is no worse than most other places. people do crazy things ALL OVER THE WORLD to try to fit whatever their culture's idea of beauty is. i don't know what exactly you think happens more rampantly here??? the most negative and embarassing thing about american culture is the man we chose to be our current president. pod
Superficial and materialistic? Last time I looked at other countries, they have that issue too. Europe isn't some sort of enlightened paradise. There's restaurants, clubs, and dinner parties you cannot get into just because you weren't "highborn"...they don't care how much money you have. They'd turn down Larry Ellison because he was an orphan. Don't get me started on the bleeding heart governments either. Half your paycheck gets ripped off for some sort of socialistic programs...Let's not forget about Africa, where despotic generals amuse themselves by flaying entire villages while chowing down on food from aid shipments they intercepted on the way to the people that really need it. South America? Same deal, except swap out general for drug lord.Asia? Well except for Korea and Japan, it's pretty bad over there too, and both Korea and Japan have problems with high level government corruption, much like us. Don't get me started on 'Nam, Cambodia, or Laos. The Middle East's problems are a whole 'nother thread. The US may have problems, but for now it's the best that humanity can put out from what I can see. In my point of view it is the lack of Humanity that such traits of superficiality/materialism reigns supreme in this country .
sobeton
are we as country or any other for that matter above reproach? No
davidalexander
I think it is very hard to quantify American culture, because American culture by its very nature is made up of bits and pieces of so many other cultures (melting pot). We dont have one huge majority race, religion, ..etc, etc, also by its size and geography we have many opinions and idea on what makes up American culture. But its visible and influential. I do agree that we as the American society have a huge influence on other cultures...our music, movies,..etc our artists are still relevant in shaping the American culture. Trust me, we dont own the rights to Materialism, every society has its materialistic elements. I respect Junior as a producer/dj, but give me my hot dogs and bugers over fish and chips any day
