Dodgers and Marlins trade...

Recommended Posts

As the clock continues to tick toward Saturday's 4 p.m. ET trading deadline, Randy Johnson's future is still up in the air. And that future could still include the Dodgers.

Johnson, still a member of the Diamondbacks, is expected to be wearing an Arizona uniform when he pitches against the Rockies tonight in Arizona.

However, the D-Backs approached Johnson on Thursday again about accepting a possible deal to the Dodgers. Johnson, who said earlier in the week that he would not go to L.A., said he would sleep on it, ESPN's Peter Gammons reports.

If the Big Unit says yes to the Dodgers, it would set in motion series of blockbuster trades that would also include Steve Finley and the Marlins, according to Gammons.

Florida would send Brad Penny, Hee Seop Choi and left-handed pitcher Billy Murphy to the Dodgers for Paul Lo Duca, Kaz Ishii and Guillermo Mota. The Dodgers then have separate deals tentatively in place with Arizona for Finley and Johnson that would require each player's approval.

The Dodgers could also acquire Finley in a three-team deal even if they don't get Johnson.

L.A. would get Finley from Arizona, and Brad Penny and Hee Seop Choi from Florida, while the Marlins would get Guillermo Mota, Paul Lo Duca and Juan Encarnacion from the Dodgers.

Arizona would get prospect Jayson Werth from the Dodgers, and prospects from the Marlins.

The Yankees, with serious pitching concerns, crave the Big Unit. But their top offer doesn't appear to interest the D-Backs enough.

The Mets, also looking for pitching help, are interested in Kris Benson of the Pirates and Victor Zambrano of the Devil Rays. A deal for Benson would likely include infielder Ty Wigginton and pitching prospect Matt Peterson. ESPN.com's Jayson Stark reports a deal for Zambrano could include the Mets' top pitching prospect, Scott Kazmir.

Stark reports the Padres have acquired first baseman/DH Brad Fullmer from to the Rangers for a minor leaguer to be named later.

Fullmer was put on the 15-day DL on Monday with a sore right knee, the same one he had surgery on last season.
