patois
Amika was a pleasure tonight, thanks to Darude and Buster. Darude, you are awesome...so friendly and talented to boot...I really enjoyed talking to you before and after your set Buster, you organized a great party, and thanks for inviting us....Buster's DJ friend primed the deck well for Darude - he left off with a very bright exalted remix of Steve Winwood's "Valerie"....and Darude took over from there. He began adding in his own flavor to the song right away by fading it in and out to the rhythm. He also manipulated the rhythms by turning a knob that made it sound like each beat was being stretched to its limit like a rubber band, then let all the rhythm snap back.Buster also introduced a song which Darude had himself written. My friend Howie commented that Darude's transitions were outstanding, and that you could not tell where one track ended and another began.Darude also brought back a fun old-skool vibe with remixes of Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit" (which we had also enjoyed on Monday at Mia's) and Pink Floyd's ""Another Brick In The Wall (Part II)." For me, the pinnacle of the set was during a pouring, dense remix of "As the Rush Comes" by Motorcycle. It's an awesome track to begin with (despite a little overexposure). It was this track that most seemed to stir up the inner dance demons in everyone. It is very inspiring to me that someone as nice as Darude is part of our dance music world. He is just one more reason to convince me that this crazy life of DJs, clubs, music and lack of sleep is not all for naught...I don't think I would really be living without what Miami brings us.
