"As part of the intelligence reform bill passed Wednesday, Congress added lighters to the list of items, including scissors, pen knives and box cutters, that passengers are barred from carrying on to planes. The ban does not apply to checked luggage.

The ban will take effect 60 days after President Bush signs the Intelligence Bill."

*phew*

....at least i know no one will be lighting anyone on fire once inside the cabin.....

thats wierd because the last 3 or 4 airports in the last year I was in didnt allow lighters on the plane. how is this a new thing?

...this will be federal policy......

edit: airports can modify thier security by doing such things as adding to the current list but not subtract - lighters will now be on the list for all airports.
