philippio
Everytime I find myself at an Aquabooty event and look around to see all the smiling faces and wildly gyrating bodies, it reminds me of why I come back for more! Basically, Steven rocked it!!! I haven't heard such a perfect opening set in a really long time! His mixing was spot on and the mood that he created was unparalleled! By far the highlight was Men from the Nile - 'Watch them Come'. The club was a bit slow to fill at first but as Djinji went on with his energetic wackiness and clownish ways behind the booth, more and more people were heading for the dancefloor. Now, in my opinion, Djinji Brown has got a natural ability to drop some really obscure, yet floorfilling records, even if his beatmatching skills leave a bit more to be desired. He dropped Tortured Soul's 'I Might Do Something Wrong' juxtaposed against a really percussive tribal bomb. The crowd was definitely eating it up. I think it was the most energetic set I've heard Djinji play. He was dancing, as usual, behind the booth and really feeling the tracks himself! Then, he punched in with The Star Spangled Banner set to a percussive suite and whipped out an American flag that he waved back and forth. For originality and wackiness, I give it a 10! His vinyl collection is simply mind-boggling! Neil Aline took over with what b-side thought was a Derrick Carter record. I hadn't heard it so I couldn't say. I really enjoyed his set. He played somewhat similar to a typical Danny Tenaglia set at first. The energy was oscillating smoothly with well placed lows and highs. Then he picked it up a notch dropping some harder percussive monsters like Dahlback & Krome's 'The Real Jazz'. Honestly, I never expected to hear him play so upbeat but it was definitely welcome! It was only my second time at Gryphon but it's easily one of my favorite clubs in south Florida. The sound is perfect and the decor is very warm and inviting. Both times, it has been packed to capacity and it's easily got more beautiful (and friendly) girls than almost any club in Miami. So, once again, a HUGE thanks to Tomas and the birthday boy, Joe Budious for the hospitality, kindness and special table offerings (and for celebrating your birthday with us). With every event you guys put on, my allegiance to the Aquabooty camp (and all the talent it comprises) is solidified!!!

I've actually heard Roland play some tunes that were similar to parts of Neil Aline's set.Thank God for variety!!
