Armand Van Helden said it best

heres what a TECHNO LEGEND (on the same interview) had to say about the clubs and crowd from the past and today. I would say his name but then it seems since i mentioned AVH there was some backlash at him, since i guess some truths cause anger. Anyhow if you are curious who it is im just gonna say he played a few days ago and it was amazing even brung up the conversation with him among other things, and if ya still cant figure it out i will say who it was. Heres what he had to say

"EVERYBODY THAT I TOOK THERE IT CHANGED THEIR LIVES EVERYBODY IT DID. IT INSPIRED EVERYONE I KNOW.

THERE WILL NEVER BE ANOTHER PLACE LIKE THAT WHEN RON HARDY WAS DOING WHAT HE WAS DOING OH MAN I MEAN THIS. IT WAS LIKE VOODOO FOR DANCE MUSIC. IF I HAD TO THINK ABOUT IT TODAY OF IF I HAD TO THINK ABOUT IT WHILE I WAS PLAYING RECORDS EVERYTIME I WOULDNT PLAY. I WOULD STOP CAUSE ID LOOK AT THESE PEOPLE AND LOOK AT THESE CLUBS. I WOULD SAY THIS IS BULLSHIT AND I WOULD LEAVE. THATS WHY I CANT THINK ABOUT IT CAUSE THERES NO COMPARISON. IT JUST MAKES EVERYTHING ELSE SHIT."

nah, i don't do it anymore... last time was in january and i could most likely say i don't want to do it anymore. i just think the desire to take anything for that matter died with age. i don't really drink much either...though looking at the crowd from sober eyes, and with sober ears, i have become more picky as in the quality of music and people out there.

Honestly though, doesn anyone even do E anymore?

ANd I'm semi-serious with this question. How many people do you know that still do that stuff? lol

Good responses to my comment.

It seems though that when I was going to clubs back when (not even that long ago! circa 99/2000?) the drug problems were a lot worse. I have friends who used to attend the Garage (my neighbor for one) and they said it was 10 times worse then.

It seems that over time the whole drug thing in clubs has become less of an issue. Think about all the people who used to and no longer post here. I saw Gianni (Msoprano's brother) at his pizza place the other day and he was saying how he rarely even goes out anymore. It goes to show that people move on and yes of course you will have a new fresh stream coming in, but it seems that these days it is becoming less and less noticed.

When I was 18, I was all about E and all that hogwash, but now I talk to a lot of 18 year olds (I am 22 now) and most have never tried it and most never do it. Perhaps it is through education that has caused this, perhaps not. Seems that though as house music has moved into clubs outside of Manhattan, people realize that it isn't all about drugs. They play house music at Bridgeview, Mulcahy's, Mirage, and a few other spots I know of on Long Island. Everyone dances to it. There is no need for drugs really (though I'm sure people do them, not doubting that). Seems as if most are there for the alcohol.

If you looked back maybe 3 years ago, if you asked someone about house music, they would be like oh it is techno music, oh it is about drugs, oh it is about ravers and UFO's and wearing ridiculous jewlery, etc. I think as time has gone on, it is indeed more about going out and having fun and not so much about getting fucked up. Just my opinion though.

As Crackorn stated, it really doesn't matter what you are doing. Go out and have fun, just be respectful to yourself and others :)

I understand what he's saying (It's Derrick May talking about the Music Box and its DJ Ron Hardy I believe). DM's touring the world and I'll tell you that 99% of the clubs are just complete crap compared to the Music Box, no issue there.

But at the same time, there are few places that deserves respect, in nyc and elsewhere. I don't think he's refering to places like the Garage, the early 90s Sound Factory, Tresor in Berlin (so influencial in Techno), or even Body and Soul recently... I mean sure it's 99.9% crap but it's like everything you have to search and find the diamonds in the shit everywhere. I'm not sure there's anything comparable today to those places though.

Also, I don't think Derrick's talking about drugs at all in this segment, specially that apparently Acid was usual on the dancefloor and Heroin in the booth (a la Paradise Garage).

The legend you speak of has a repuatation for having a bad attitude and not paying his bills, i wouldnt take everything he says to heart.

Instead listen to originators like Atkins, or people with positive vibe's who are being progressive with the scene like Saunderson.

I dont think they are quite as jaded (well maybe atkins, but not as bad as may)
