mastro's - restaurant review

i went to mastro's friday night, and it was hands down one of the best meals/nights i've had out at a restaurant, so i thought i'd post a review.

best steak (28 oz prime rib) i think i've ever had (and steak/chop houses are my fav genre), colossal shrimp cocktail was ridiculously good (about 5 inches wide each, firm and tasty, cocktail sauce nice n spicy, a bit of cool drama when they arrive in the foggy dry ice), wine was great (lots of choices, many under $10, they pour a full 9 oz. per glass), service was fantastic.

about $180 with tip for the two of us, yet i feel it was worth every penny.

mastro's rules. great night, great meal.

my roommate makes the best steak i've ever tasted, so i hardly ever eat it anywhere else anymore. it would have to be amazing. i don't doubt you, though, jb! [perhaps you should try my roommate's steak, though, before i spend that much moolah ...]

in beverly hills.

these kinds of places have access to the best cuts of meat, stuff that isn't available directly to the consumer. so while i don't doubt that your roommate's steak is good, places like mastro's, morton's, ruth's chris are a whole nother level.

try the $36 cut at Saddleranch ... its amazing. When it comes to any beef product, Morton's has for decades had enroads to get cuts that no other operator can -- hence a publically traded company.
