AMERICAN! I am so tired of people saying that they are this or that... people give up everything to be in this country... yes in my opinion we have many flaws with our system, but show a little pride for once and stop bragging your heritage as though being an american is nothing.

< had a bad day at work.

AND ANOTHER THING....

don't tell the people in a bakery how great of a baker you are and how you always make such "great goodies" for the holidays. no you don't cause your fat ass and your families fat ass is in this bakery every week buying food like its your last meal... if you baked anything maybe you'd loose a few pounds.

First and foremost I am American and glad to be one. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else unless I had enough money that I could live in America part of the year and Spain and/or Japan the other part. But I am also by blood Russian, Austrian, Romanian, and Polish and I find those cultures of my heritage interesting. The only flag I wave though, is of the United States.

While i understand your point, if someone asked me my nationality i wouldn't respond American. They'd look at me and be like "Huh?" because that doesn't really answer the question. I was born here, consider myself to be american but i'd answer Cuban. That is my background, thats where my parents were born, and thats why i have a rice and beans face.

Quite often I ask a person their heritage. Sometimes people say, "American." and I have to explain, "What's running through your viens? Where is you origin?" We're all American, those of us who are here legally, but I am always curious about people's ancestry. So I like your answer. Some people become insulted when you inquire about their background, as if they think that being American isn't good enough for me, or that I don't believe they are real Americans.

same... I say indian... if i say american (although i'm a citizen), i don't look it, people get confused... most of the time, when someone asks where i'm from, it's after I've said my name, which is definitely not an american sounding name, so i know they're asking about the nationality...

and just b/c someone migrates to the states, it doesn't mean you give up your other cultural ancestries... and only align yourself with the states, you embrace both...

arbitrary man-made borders don't define who a person is; the passport you carry doesn't define who you are - nationality is one thing, self perception of race, ethnic and cultural you group you most identify is totally different and is define by each individual.

maybe i should have put an example...

yeah one should be proud of thier roots. its the blood that runs through their veins. of course your heritage states much about you... how you look...what foods you may prefer... bla bla bla bla.

but some people out there think its all there is. i work in italian bakery and most people know that but goodness you should see the people that i see walk in... they walk in, and say "i'm italian, i'm italian, i'm italian, i'm italian, i'm italian."... it just annoys me sometimes.
