msskin
This is related to a topic here on the NY boards calledNYC Clubs next to be shut down? There’s a couple things that came our of the city meeting regarding the NYC nightlife issue and where the clubs are failing. They derived (from what was broadcast in TV news), that its mainly the door personnel who aren’t doing their jobs. Not only because they aren’t really caring to follow the basic steps to keep under aged people out and pat-down/search people at entry, but it was also said they the staff is completely NOT trained for this method of "weeding"So the city has passed a law to venue owners stating the followings"(I’m working off memory of TV from late Monday night so bare with me here)1) Bouncers and official staff are to be hired from OUTSIDE outfits.2) All persons, regardless of dress, physical condition, or religious beliefs is to be physically searched in a publicly respectful manor by TRAINED personnel3) ALL venues must have working , security cameras installed at ALL entrances / exist of the building, including in and outside these particular doorways.4) When paraphernalia (spelling) is found on a person, entry to the venue is to be halted completely until the person(s) are escorted away from the property by the hired security staff. Entries will remain halted until the persons are completely clear of premises.5) COMPLETELY ALL venues MUST have the latest technology in license scanning machines located at the street level entrance & an additional machine located inside the main drinking area (main bar i suppose for double checking just incase)These are just a few of the things i remember from the city officials / council meeting.Im sure there was plenty more but you’ll have to find that list which im sure is posted in some obscure location in a place none of us have known existed.Hope that helps clear things up but NO...... NYC Police will not be forcing the shut down of NYC nightclubs. In fact that was a specific point this lady said.(Loosely quoted) We are not directing these actions to remove the "nightlife " from New York City. This is merely a way to help safeguard the good apples from the bad ones.Personally i like all this, i mean look at the terrorist actions taken against us lately. Why should we just be walking around aimlessly w/o having some sense of known comfort? What’s your opinion? Because as i see it, these measures also help us from becoming easier victims (again)
djeco
wow i think thats a great middle-ground... another thing i heard as a result from the meeting is that clubs will be able to have off-duty cops as part of the security, working hand-in-hand, which is cool i guess (instead of having angry on-duty cops looking for an easy target to fulfill their quota)... from what i read on the results of the meeting, the city itself seemed very reasonable with its demands, i didnt hear ne of the 2 or 3AM closing ideas that the news were splashing all over the place the night before as possibilities... and to tell the truth, everything i read as far as the ideas put forth seem very very reasonable, and im glad to have heard that those involved with the nightlife board in the proceedings cooperated very well with the board holding the proceedings... its about time they have some SMART ideas put forth to deal with the problem.... up til now, the best way to describe it is like shooting an annoying fly with a gun.... theres no need to use that gun, theres a smart way to get rid of that annoying (yes) but overcomeable problem, and im glad the government is figuring it out.... tis a billion dollar business and theyd be surprised how much our nightlife is actually still looked up to around the world, and how NYC is still regarded as a cool destination (to those who havent been here yet, at least, which is still a big tourist market.... and im only saying these things from personal experience of people ive met overseas and their continuing wonder of new york nightlife, and even new york dj exports)
techcetera
Some of the points are good, but its not going to stop or change anything drastically.Just like underage drinking, and fake ids and drugs, it will never go away, or become anywhere near fully legal.
