watching the news on tv can make a viewer very upset. one must remember a few things, however:

  1. television news must keep viewers' attention, so they make things more dramatic and/or exaggerate. things are often not as bad or great as they make it sound.
  2. news programs often make reports without complete information or even by reporting misinformation. i have personally seen some stories on local news where they got names of people and facts wrong about things with which i was personally familiar.
  3. all news is spun; there is no such thing as objective news. even when it is mostly reporting facts, the spin is in which facts are chosen to be reported.
  4. and when a story is based in a country with which the u.s. does not get along, one can be sure that it will be negative. just because this is the united states of america does not mean that government and politics do not have power over our media.

so before one gets outraged at world events, one should remember that s/he is never getting the whole story unless s/he is there him/herself.

tune in tomorrow.
