There are two cars that are not on this list which would be near the top or the very top.. Saleen S7 twin turbo and the new zo6 which ran some of the fastest times ever at the ring and beat the Ford GT in motor trends latest edition...

The zonda is not us street legal, in fact a lot of these are not street legal in the us but the z06 and the saleen are...

10 Fastest Production Cars Ever

Model Year Vehicle Top Speed

(mph) Source

2005 Bugatti Veyron 16.4 253 Car and Driver

2005 Koenigsegg CCR 241 independent observer

1998 McLaren F1 240 independent observer

2003 Saleen S7 223 at 6500-rpm redline

2004 Ferrari Enzo 220 Auto Motor und Sport

1993 Jaguar XJ220 212 independent observer

1992 Bugatti EB110 GT 212 Autocar

2002 Pagani Zonda S 208 Sport Auto

2004 Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren 207 Auto Motor und Sport

2004 Porsche Carrera GT 207 Auto Motor und Sport

Most cars and speeds on this list have been verified by magazine tests or other independent observers. The only exception is the Saleen S7, which we strongly suspect can achieve its sixth-gear redline at 223 mph, especially in the later turbocharged form.

Nick, i dunno if it has ever ocurred to you but.......the rest of the world really is much bigger than the US.

Why would it matter if it is street legal or has been tested in the US? Do you think US soil contains some kind of magical properties that would cause a car to run better or poorer here? Face it - european motorists have traditionally been more adequate in testing these vehicles due to various reasons including better testing facilities, whether natural or man made.

That's the typical American way of thinking. Don't ever expect anyhting else from Nick. The typical American does not seem to know or even care that there is a world outside of the US. Ignorance in it's purest form.

Fastest Car: SSC Ultimate Aero

Base price: $654,500

Faster than even the Veyron, the Ultimate Aero by small American manufacturer SSC has a top speed of 260 to 273 mph, according to Langley wind-tunnel calculations. It achieves such ridiculous performance with a 1,046-horsepower V-8 engine (yes, you read that hp figure correctly), which is shoehorned into a car that weighs as much as a Dodge Neon.

The fastest street legal car every tested by the us mags is the lingerfelter corvette, mcclaren refused to allow the us mags to test their car, because they knew the numbers were bogus.. Top speed tests require a pass in both directions within one hour and they avg the speed of both passes, go google the controversy of the land speed record... The guy who first did it, is not the offical holder of the record..

http://www.fastcoolcars.com/callaway_sledgehammer.htm

Enjoy the read, you can buy that car and drive it on the US roads all legal and it will crush the mcclaren and it's a cheaply made vette from 1984!

Taste of the Lingenfelter

You guys are ignorant, that list from that euro trash show is missing so many great american street legal cars.. to name a few...

callway vette

tnt viper

lingenfelter vette

saleen s7 twin turbo

new viper GTS

new ford mustang cobra

new z06 which RAN THE 6TH FASTEST TIME EVER AT THE RING IN GERMANY!

btw, top 3 places for testing cars..

1. germany autobann

2. middle east desert

3. arizona

Time times you'll see in the next link, were done by motor trend..

http://www.fast-autos.net/lingenfelter/lingenfelter650tt.html

Any real car guy knows, if you want to go fast you buy a vette made by lingenfelter.

That's wind tunnel testing. Not actual testing. I doubt that car can acheive those speeds with that amount of horsepower. I 'd like to know the drag coefficient of that car.
