today i ordered him the parts for his new production rig...

here are the highlights:

Dual Processor AMD Athlon 3800

Gigabyte K8N Pro SLI Motherboard w/1600mhz system bus

2GB DDR 400 Ram

10,000RPM SATA 250GB Seagate Drive

M-AUDIO Audiophile Sound Card

19" LCD Display

this is for his audio production needs -

am going to tweak it so that it will outperform all of your g5's

this thing should do 100+tracks of audio with as much plugins, FX, and vst's as he can throw at it...

yes i know im a tech geek

dual processor ? or dual core processor ....

mine has a dual core Athlon 64 X2 4200+ .. it runs very nice ..

that config should do lots of things

dual core, but its essentially two processors!

nice one andrew btw - the AMD's blow the intels out of the water ;D

Leave the poor guy alone. He chose not to get sucked in by Jobs' reality distortion field. Not to say the MacBooks suck, but still, Mr. Vitaly exercised choice, which is what Apple spews about all day anyhow? I guess choice is cool only if it falls on their side of the fence.

yeah he already has the second monitor at home, and the graphics adapter is expandable to use 4 monitors if he wants 8)

Shit. Doesn't Trancepriest have a Quad G5? If so he still has the fastest computer on CJ. But the one Adam put together is good for under $1200.

yeah yeah the quad mac is nice, except not much is designed to utilize quad processors...plus its a mac anyway, who wants one of those :-X

what do you guys think of having a CJ lan party sometime? we can do it at my house...

share gigs of music, games, software, vst's, and uh videos (Disclaimer: everything shared will be shareware or demo versions)

we used to do it alot...if enough of you are interested it could be a fun day-event (yes we can DJ while we share files)...you leave with a hard drive full of everyone else's shareware stuff...

ill start a thread on it if you guys think it would work (or is that too tech-geeky of an idea for CJ?)

I just don't get the "cult" aspect of the Mac community still. They've made strides in my mind to being a computer I would buy, but in the end it is still just a box. It's what you do with it that counts. A Mac can suck equally as bad as a PC in the wrong hands. The hardware is essentially the same nowadays. Apple is just a systems integrator with a fancy OS and some nifty looking metal cases headed up by some L. Ron-esque figurehead.

I'd still get a mini though for kicks.

As for what Adam is doing, there's still an innate satisfaction of building your own system. In theory you could do it with a Mac? I found a place that sells most of what you'd need to grow your own...

Hmm, if I had the money to blow, I'd give it a shot. I'm sure there's a small cadre of people building their own Macs.

I would like to join in... but somehow I have a nagging feeling in the back of my brain that my Mac would look really ugly around a bunch of PC's. If something can be done about this... I'll have to consider it. Also a VIP room will have to be arranged for the Mac users.

naw we've done them before and the mac people are always fun - usually in person people are nicer than on the web ;)

hahaha what a thread! honestly though, I have no idea what Adam ordered. Looked like a bunch of letters and numbers to me, but according to him I'm getting a phat system so no more extracting vst sounds as .wav and pluging them back into the track. viva teknologee!

Well not much is designed to use the Quad processors as of yet. The thing about getting a quad is you won't have to do any upgrades to it for a long long time...
