Bling
LOS ANGELES (Reuters) -- McDonald's said on Monday more than 1,200 of its U.S. restaurants have switched to a trans fat-free frying oil, though no time line has been set for when the rest of its hamburger chain would be using the new product. The oil that will eventually be used to cook all of McDonald's famous fries in the United States is a blend of canola, soybean and corn oils, spokeswoman Lisa Howard saidThe Chicago Tribune reported on Sunday that McDonald's plans to be cooking all its fries in the new oil by early 2008, but Howard said there was no target date."The reason we can't state a date right today is that it depends a lot on the crop supply and the crop availability," Howard said.McDonald's promised in 2002 to reduce trans fats in some of its products but was beaten to the move by rivals Wendy's (Charts) and Yum Brands (Charts) units KFC and Taco Bell. The company has said in the past the delay was partly because it was taking time to find an oil that would not compromise the taste of its fries. Howard said consumers' response to the new oil has so far been positive.Trans fat increases the low-density lipoprotein - so-called bad cholesterol - in food, and health officials have advised Americans to consume as little trans fat as possible.New York City banned most artificial trans fats from restaurants last year, and Howard said McDonald's restaurants there would be in compliance with the ban by the July deadline.Shares of McDonald's (Charts) closed up 0.8 percent on the New York Stock Exchange Monday.http://money.cnn.com/2007/01/29/news/companies/mcd.reut/index.htm?cnn=yes

Guest coach
BAH! I make better fries than McD's. Their fries *used* to be great when they did them in animal fat. They changed their formula a number of years ago to make it more "vegetarian" (because, I guess, petroleum counts as a non-meaty substance). The trans-fatty oils that restaurants use is the cheapest junk you can buy, which is why they use it. Any of the nicer vegetable oils they might use are bound to taste better. It probably will not taste the same, though.

Guest coach
yeah but sometimes one is in the mood for shit ..um that didnt sound right ;DThis is almost certainly because of a food allergy or dependence. Once thing to note is that eating shit food dulls your tastebuds. So that next time you have to eat shittier food to get the same taste sensation. Also, your body gets to craving the bad things in the food: salt, sugar, fats, etc. If you stop eating these shit foods, the cravings will go away. Not only that, good food will taste better. And you will be able to taste more subtly.
