scratchapella
I saw this question on the NYC board a while ago. I was just wondering b/c a lot of people complain about the age range of people at certain clubs (usually that they're too young). But think about it, how young were you when you first started clubbing? I was 17 (fake ID),and it was at a place called Rednofive in Chicago. So, who here is the oldest(how old are you?) and how old were you when you first started?
dragonfly
I started at 18. I went once to DIVA when I was 17, and was sooo excited to turn 18.I've been a devoted clubber every weekend since then, no matter where I am (usually).
BillDaThrill
I don't think i will be going to clubs anymore when i'm in my 30's. I'm trying to party young. i've seen a few older people there like around 40. i don't mind.. but they don't look like they fit it though lol
vixenfoxxy
I'm certainly not the oldest in here (turning 19 Thursday ) but I started clubbing when I was 17 at this place called Trilogy in NY. It was a pretty lame Long Island club but they let me in, so I didn't care. I promote mainly college parties down here, and I know my friends get really wierded out by the middle-aged people we sometimes get. I mean, we can't turn them away 'cause, hey, they're not underage, but really, over-40's at a college party? Those people walk in and immediately they're wearing a big red banner saying "I visit too many teen porn sites". They're creepy. I have no problem with older people at non-college oriented parties, though. I think what gets me more is these girls who look like they're 12 that are so obviously in on fake 18 ID's. They can't handle themselves. You can tell just by maturity level that they don't belong, and I can't for the life of me understand why the bouncers let them in anyway. It's not like they bring big alcohol revenue or something. Just my $0.02 ------------------"When you're feelin' good in somebody's spot, gettin' hot, don't stop, just don't think I'm not!" ~Candy
scratchapella
Reason why I brought this up (in addition to just being curious) was b/c I felt like I was much younger than the rest of the board here. I hate all this age discrimination shit at clubs, 20 somethings complaining about the "kids" being everywhere. I wish they would think back to when they started clubbing and realize, "Oh! [smacking themselves HARD on the forehead] I was their age when I first started." Of course it doesn't help when all your peers don't know their limit w/liquor & drugs and show up at clubs like that all the time. Embarassing.I guess I'm just pissed b/c I got turned away at Red's last weekend. And college parties sometimes just don't cut it (top forty, cheesy rap/hip-hop, fluffy house). All the "kiddies" on this board can empathize, right?Anyways, I think I'm the youngest one here, 19.
vixenfoxxy
Hey Scratch, if you're 19 that would make me the youngest one here, 'cause I'm still 18 for another 2 days . The funny thing is, I feel like I've been involved in the club scene forever, even though I've only been promoting since I got to school here. Either way, I wouldn't worry about what older clubbers are saying. I mean, they have no say in whether or not you have a good time, and as long as you're old enough to get through the door, you belong there. ------------------"When you're feelin' good in somebody's spot, gettin' hot, don't stop, just don't think I'm not!" ~Candy

millele
heehee, just remembered that once at twilo, i met a guy who was there celebrating his 60th or 65th b-day. his son had asked him what he wanted to do for his b-day, and he said he wanted to go to twilo. apparently he used to be a wild clubber type when he was younger, and had wanted to relive his youth at twilo. so the son brought him there! pretty funny. iactually think it was awesome of his son to do that. raver_mania was there too -remember? you must remember. shadygroovedc
I'd have to throw myself into the running for oldest: 26 1/2. Still go to Buzz at least once a month. I go every week if there are good lineups. Go to either 5 or Edge a few times a month on Saturdays. I have a regular day job in the Software industry. I spend a good chunk of my 'entertainment budget' on keeping my vinyl collection up to date (about 400 records and growing after throwing out some old ones). I have a pair of Technics AND a pair of Numark turntables (4 total). I think Digweed is GOD. I listen to nothing but Progressive House in my car, at work, at home. Don't have any issues w/ 'kiddies'. In fact, I PREFER the raver crowd to other clubbing crowds. And I tell ya what, I've got a bunch of friends aged 22 - 29 who would write a lot of the same things I did in this post.So don't fret, there IS life after 25 if you enjoy the muzak... :-)

yellowgirl
Hey hey, I'm the big 25 myself and have been going very very strong since I got my first taste of a party @ the age of 18.Before entering grad school I was hitting the clubs/parties about twice a week......ahhhh I miss them days - got so many of my friends to dance for the first time and into the club scene...Haven't been able to do much of it lately since I started school again (and it is lacking out here!) but I definitely made up for it during my Spring Break....danced my bootie off in Richmond, DC, and Philly at 6 clubs over a handful of days.....can anyone say Danceaholic?!?!?!?!Btw, I LOVE DC!=)much love!-YG
vixenfoxxy
Millele, I was rolling on the floor when I read your post! I know exactly what Darryl was talking about -- what a creepy group! Although when I saw them, the guys were just kind of on the wall and watching what was happening (while consuming large amounts of alcohol). I really don't know what that was all about, but like I said before, that's such a red flag for the "I like teen porn sites" type. My friends kept referring to those men as "the paedophiles". Ick How is Darryl doing btw? I haven't seen anyone in a couple of weeks (crew team spring training kidnapped me! )------------------"When you're feelin' good in somebody's spot, gettin' hot, don't stop, just don't think I'm not!" ~Candy
millele
darryl's good - our offices are close by, so we meet up for lunch every so often. i'm so jealous - he's going to wmc in miami next weekend!!! there's a group of 15-20 or so who're going down. argh!! vixenfoxxy
Haha if there is ever an entire month in which Darryl doesn't disappear to some wonderful vacation spot at random for at least one weekend, I think I'd faint I think he needs to donate a few spare trips to the "I need a vacation but I'm a broke-ass college student" Fund. Do you still go to 5 on Thursdays? I was wondering if any of you still end up there, I asked Seth to tell me if you showed up but being the swiftie he is said "oh, I know who you mean but I don't remember her". *sigh* Always reliable! )------------------"When you're feelin' good in somebody's spot, gettin' hot, don't stop, just don't think I'm not!" ~Candy

scratchapella
Looks like eggmok is the winner! DAyamn, I wonder if I'll be able to club for another ten years? I mean, there are some weekends that come up and I wonder if I'll have the strength/interest to keep going to the same scene over and over again for another 10-20 years? Nevermind. I'll being doing it till I'm 50. (Hopefully no stupid meathead bouncers will be trying to kick me out by then) I suppose your scope of clubs/parties jsut gets wider, maybe international?
