Hey Jam,

Just got back from Ibiza and Amsterdam.... (well, "just" being 2 weeks ago already). Here is my $.02 about amsterdam:

1) amsterdam is heaven. enough said.

2) the leidesplein is a cool area for bars + resturants b4 you go out.

3) the best coffeeshop for techno music is 222. buy your weed at the greenhouse first tho. greenhouse has the best bud IMHO, and they have a little satellite in the red light district which is easier to find (it is called "greenhouse effect"). kandinsky is also pretty wicked.... try the shrooms while you're at it too - the best i had were from conscious dreams, the head shop near the city center.

4) the dutch love their hardhouse - there is a lot of great local talent, and there are parties every night, with massives almost every weekend. the big hardhouse dj's there are tom harding and jp... (if you can pick up the JP@HQ cd for me i would be a very very happy rob). you can flyer in typical places like record stores and the "trendier" clothing stores. they have a neat little calender that looks like a paint catalog that shows you all of the different parties going on.

5) you should definitely check out kremlin at least once. i think they are only open on weekends - but one of my fave parties in amsterdam.

6) escape is only good when they have chemistry (saturday nights) but check to make sure who's spinnin there 'cause sometimes it can get cheezy.

7) for culture, check out the rijksmuseum - they have a lot of vermeer, etc. rembrandt + van gogh have separate museums which are pretty touristy, but they are right next to vondelpark (the only park you can legally smoke in) so you can take in a museum, chill + smoke, then get another one. rijksmusuem is the best though.

8) the biggest draw of amsterdam is just getting lost - all of the streets and alleyways are crooked and have wierd dutch names and you never know what's behind any corner. or you can just be like me and keep wandering around in circles in the red light district... no matter where i went i couldn't get out of that place....

9) big parties (like impulz and hq) have giant posters all over the city - you can't miss 'em. if you like hardcore/gabber, you have to go to rotterdam.

ok that's it for now... e-mail me if you want (rjt72@columbia.edu)

hugs,

rob

If you're in Amsterdam on a Saturday, try to hit Kremlin

If you can make it out to the Hague, Eau (aka "O", <<O>>) seems to be another spot to check out

Berlin has quite a few cool places. I wish I had more time while there to check out more of them.

Tresor is probably the most famous club there. http://www.tresor.de

I went to the Columbiahalle, which I think is normally a concert venue, but they often have DJ's playing there - check http://www.columbiahalle.de

I saw Paul van Dyk, Nick Warren, and David Morales there the night before (and morning of) the Love Parade

PVD often plays at Casino, but he won't be during the time you're there. :(

I'm sure there's other good stuff happening there though - they have a site but I forget what it is.

If E-Werk is open, I've heard that's quite good as well.

Check http://www.loveparade.de

I think the listing of parties will tell you where else you can possibly go.

Take the walking tour, which lasts 4-5 hours - it's very good!

Go to the Riesebank near the Zoo for details. I think tours leave at 9:30 (or 10) am and 2:30 pm.

I'll try to write about more Berlin later.

If you can go see DJ jean, when I was there Amsterdam I saw him and it was fing sick. I agree you have to ask around when you get there to see whats hot at the time. People are real cool and will tell you. there is a sick after hours place just out side the city you can take a cab(not much $) its called Dino's. Crazy crazy crazy. Mad cool people and just ask at the clubs and they will point you in the right direction. Chemistry is cool but a bit young when I went. still a great night. Escape is one of the biggest clubs there and is more commercial, if you want to check out other more Euro clubs i would check out others.

Other than that info above is great for Amster.

In Paris you have to be on point, most of the clubs will have lines and with your great smile I'm sure you will get in. Just make sure you dress well and maybe give yourself some extra time. there are 2 clubs at Franklin Roosvelt station on the Champs-eliesa(spelling??) One is the Monkey Club the other is right accross the street I cant remember the name. But I had a great time at both.

Paris is easy to get around and you can take the metro everywere, all the sites are great and I would just go to as many as you can. get a map of the city and just go in a circle. Advise when you get on the metro buy a pack of tickets(i believe they sell them in 10 rides at once) its cheaper and you will use them trust me.

I guess thats most of what I have to say you can always pm me for more details.

:)

got really good info about a'dam above. definitely agree about seeing dj jean. i lived in a'dam for 2 years and saw him spin almost every fri at the it. great club and great lights. try to be there a fri nite and go to the it. about coffeshops go to de rokerij. there are 3 of them. they are all cool. go to the one by leidseplein. go to kremlin on sat nite, i think it is better than chemistry at escape. for bars go to three sisters, palladium, de kroon. they are nice classy bars. drink belgium beer. it is the best. most places have palm, a really good red beer. the mushrooms are intense. copolondia are the strongest. see crazy shit with them. mexican are cool, they are more mellow and you laugh more. ask the guys working at the smart shops and they will tell you everything you need to know. pm me if you have any questions. have fun.

OK for Berlin:

On Tuesdays and Thursday: Try out the Cookies, its near S-Bahnhof Friedrichstrasse but its not in any magazine as its an underground club. Wednesdays go to the Tresor on LeipzigerStrasse at the U-Bahnhof Potsdamer Platz. Fridays I dunno. Saturday I usually go into the Sage club at U-Bahnhof Heinrich Heine Strasse.

Other good clubs:

WMF

Matrix

KitKat or Metropol, dunno whats it called now. (sexual fantasy outfit only) there are freak out parties. Sex on the dancefloor and that kinna stuff.

Frankfurt: Check out Sven Vaeth's Club U101 (The numbers are a little bit different I think), but I only know that it is kickin on weekends.

august is the dead season here

only Queen club on les champs elysees is open

it's pretty good on fridays and saturdays, but very gay on saturdays...expect door drama since the door person Sandrine is hard towards foreign people, especially if you come to her talking in English

let me know when you are in town (PM)
