mugwump
Well for some 2001 came in with a sense of hope and left witha feeling of misery, sadness and paranoid uncertainty.. Among the many gigantic tragedies we all experienced in NY,and the wars that escalated as a result, it was hard not to feel thescene shadowed by an over all lack of motivation and club casualties.Under shady (and often extreme) laws in this city we saw the fall of our beloved TWILO , the cancellation of mega-hugeall day events such as Cream fields, Mekka and Boo6.Many clubs fought (and continue to fight) archaic cabaret liscencesand an over sensation of "SURVIVAL OF THE FITTEST" is jacking upprizes to ridiculous amounts in order to go see your favorite DJs..This along with an epidemic of velvet rope mentality, guestlist greedand glamy VIP restrictions have isolated and distanced a core audience whom, in my opinion, the "THE ELECTRONIC MUSIC SCENE HAS MUCH TO OWE TO" Underground will not live forever (like "roaches" samples)as long as an Elitist society deprives the humbled massesfrom admittance to see certain acts/DJs with over the top ticket prizespretentious dress code policies and EGO DRIVEN DRAMA! *Some of uslike to DANCE:ie..sweat,i.e: feel comfortableon the dance floors. Not stand around with martini glasses allnight in Turtlenecks snorting lines off of implant jobs.(some of us still carry PLUR in our hearts.)(SINCE WHEN DID TRANCE PARTIES NOT ALLOW SNEAKERS IN CLUBLAND?MY EUROPEAN FRIENDS ARE DYING OF LAUGHTER AT NY ON THIS ONE!) There should be room for BOTH worlds in the dance scene..but I see the velvet rope growing and growin and grooowwwiiing across this cities club doors..However this year also saw a glimmer of hope:DJs and musicians came together over the Tragedy at theWorld Trade Center and many Clubs, promoters and clubberscame together to raise awareness and money for a great cause..Many DJs (perhaps humbled) took a shit once more and became"human" by returning to the source: THE PEOPLE THAT LOVE THE MUSIC.We are starting to see more big name DJs do $5 Gigs at many terrific "no attitude" smaller clubs and lounges acrossthe city..(Satoshie& Sandra @ Filter14, Hawtin and the Techno collective @ Guernica..Keoki @ Saphire's etc...) Organizations like "Dance the Vote" and Complacent are taking the "politics of dance" in to their own hands and starting revolutions on the streets...Pseudo.com, alomg with other kind souls, are hosting OPEN TURN TABLE NIGHTS for the bedroom DJs to get a shot at the decks in public..PLUS There are many projects to help under funded young musicians, producers and unemployed DJs to be exposed and have a "shot" in this cut throat industry. Not to mention that there is a growing shift away from the cities into the "Warehouse party" the "Loft party" and a resurgence of a new breed of local lounge DJs that actually HANG OUT with the people (Vrs hanging out in hidden VIP rooms) That is why I feel there is hope growing from the cracks of a side walk paved with greed and a lack of knowledge of the music in the new year.PERHAPS 2002 WILL SEE A MORE HUMBLED LESS GREEDY NY NIGHTLIFE.PERHAPS ONE DAY THE MUSIC WILL COME FIRST AGAIN.PERHAPS GREAT DJS WILL FOLLOW THE EXAMPLES OF ACTS LIKE CRYSTAL METHOD AND FAT BOY SLIM AND DO MORE FREE OUTDOOR PARTIES.We need more PS1s..More Lunateriums...More people that really GIVE A DAMN ABOUT WHERE THE DJ BOOTH ISIN COMPARISON TO THE DANCE FLOOR.. And slowly..step by step..perhaps the love will return to the dance floors.WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO SEE IN THE YEAR 2002? :blank:

ecstatichigh35
Mugz, you should check out Buzz in DC. I'm starting to fall in love with the party more and more every friday night. They have no dress code, a very underground ravey vibe. Huge dancefloor, great line-ups and only $12 before 11pm $15 after. I saw Kimbal Collins rip the place up 2 weeks ago and got to meet him, Saeed & Palash were insane last friday. I think this is exactly what you're looking for. bigpoppanils
after being here i think i see what the good old days were likein the new year, i would like to see a night club open having big name dj's every friday (i think turnmills and fabric have spoiled me rotten)and since faithless is gonna be cancelled, i would like to see them come over in the new year as well
cpiwinnah
Everything you said was wonderful....miss the days of dressing comfortable to go out...god it would be great to go out wearing my New Balance, with a nice pair of wind pants & a tank top....AAAAHHHH....the days of comfort!!!!...Here is a question....Why is the admission at a club maybe $20or $25 dollars......then you schedule Danny Tenaglia to spin thereone night and now it is $40 or $50....Did something change besides the dj??? So you finally bring someone into spin thateveryone wants to hear and you jack up the price....yeah..that isreally nice...Makes me want to come back real soon........I MISS PLUR TOO!!!!.....If you want to make your club for all the stuck up snobs....get a shitty dj who no one likes....make the dress code super strict and you will get what you want...People who will pay $8.00 for a beer and eat that with a grin....People who don't know how to dance or want to for that matter and spend there wad at the bar buying those $8.00........HELL THAT IS MORE THAN I PAY FOR A SIX-PACK RIGHT NOW...where do they get off!!!!*****Then all of us who are there for the music, people, and atmosphere can have our great name dj's rip it up....Who cares if the venue is big or small....Who cares if they have a sick VIP area...I DON'T GO TO CLUBS FOR THE VIP SECTION.....I GO FOR THE MUSIC, AND THE PEOPLE, AND THE FEELING I GET LISTENING TO THAT MUSIC....****************************************************ALL I ASK FOR IN 2002.....IS FOR THE MUSIC TO BE OUT OF CONTROL.....THAT THE BIG NAME PRODUCERS MAKE A STRONG EFFORT TO OUT DUE ONE ANOTHER EVERYTIME....AND THAT EVERYONE WHO GOES OUT IS THERE FOR THE SAME THING I AM....*************FOR THE LOVE OF MUSIC & FRIENDS***********************THE ONLY TWO THINGS THAT MATTER***********

I am so happy someone has that vision. One that sometimes gets detered but remains in the hearts of the people that have strived to keep the music alive. Everyday I knowyou I swear I get more and more impressed by the way you express your thoughts and ideas. I am truly blessed to have you as a friend and now even more as a fellow worker. I have to give you a big hug tomorrow. Even as Dave Reminds me "MAUDY is not a PLAYTHING"
vixenfoxxy
I don't know guys... just spend a year outside the NY club scene and you'll not complain so much. If I had my way I'd say put Twilo back, and bring DJ's like Timo Maas and Digweed to the area more often. Oh yeah and send help to the DC scene... it's so weak

mysterynyc
airlines should stop charging $1000 and above flights to Ibiza,as well as having DIRECT flights to ibiza from the US...instead of going to Madrid or Barcelona. Its insane.Especially now, airlines need to slash prices in half! dbilas
I want hot, sweaty bodies dancing, loving, soaking in the music like they're the only person in the club, with total abandon.I want to stop seeing guys hunting for girls on E for an "easy score."I want people who have just entered the scene to make an effort to understand what the scene is about and to stop trying to change the scene to confirm to their understanding of the world.I want to see dress codes eliminated.I want to see people go out to clubs for the music, not just because they recognize the DJ's name from some mix CD.I want the underground to rise up and swallow the evils of the mainstream. It's time for the revolution to begin.Peace,David ChristopherHeadRush Music
