  1. with Danny Daze Lover. Fighter. Prophet. Freak magnet. Time-traveler. Musician, photographer and designer Jimmy Edgar is a wayward star-child streaking across the cosmic dance-floor. Endowed with a supernatural feel for futuristic funk, the Detroit native has been bleeping and grinding about the Milky Way since he was a teenage humanoid. While his peers were worrying about their grades and popularity Edgar was spinning alongside his hometown's DJ heroes and programming intricate beats that were unquestionably interplanetary communication disguised as dance music.

  3. Jared Lucas is a 24 year old DJ/Producer based outside of New York City. Initially recognized for his signature*EDM/top 40 bootlegs that tailor to the college scene, Kap Slap now begins a new chapter of his career. Now that he has graduated from Lehigh University, Jared has the time and resources needed to pursue his dream and create his own original productions. His substantial fan base gained through mashups anxiously await his debut single, which is sure to exceed expectations. Having a younger sister with cerebral palsy and mother with breast cancer caused Jared to mature at an early age. He turned to music as an outlet for his creativity, mastering the guitar, bass, and drums and recording songs in his basement. Due to space limitations while pursuing his Integrated Business & Engineering degree at Lehigh University however, he was forced to bring this musical passion to the virtual world. Although initially started as a hobby, Kap Slap’s mashups procured for him his first gig by Junior year, 2011. He managed to finish out the year with an impressive 25 show tour while still a full time student, mastering everything about Ableton along the way. This flurry of success caused Jared to seriously consider his future career; should he play it safe and get a job like all of his friends or throw caution to the wind and dive into an industry that he knew almost nothing about? In the end he decided to produce music and tour the country full time, letting his passion for music fuel his life. Kap Slap approaches the transition to original production with both an appreciation for how far he has come as well as an unbridled anticipation for the auspicious future that awaits him. With his upcoming release on the horizon, he looks forward to establishing his musicianship to the world and bringing a frisson of excitement to his fans through dance music that connects people throughout the world. ~AXS

  6. Boy George Put on the spot on a TV show and asked the title of his next album, Boy George blurted out This Is What I Do. It wasn't as random as this story suggests, the title was one of a few being mulled over, but the decision was instant and it has stuck.* The simple statement of fact -- This Is What I Do -- is telling and significant because so much has gone on over the years to actually obscure what George does and who he is.* "It's about re-establishing myself musically to say this is what I do. I was at the Brits a couple of years ago and some unexpected people were giving me name checks, like Cee Lo Green and Arcade Fire. It made me think, a lot of people know who I am and have this affection for me but they don't really know why they like me. I had to ask myself, well who and what are you?"* George is famous enough for all of us to have an opinion and think we know who he is. On This Is What I Do we are likely to be confounded. Close your eyes, empty your mind, and as another '80s pop star once said, listen without prejudice. This may be the best record he's ever made. It's the record he's always had the promise to make but only now through life experience has been able to find a direct line to his muse.* In the process he freed his spirit to explore not just his own psyche but the diverse influences that have inspired him over the years -- from dub to rap, Woolwich to Jamaica, glam rock to country, mean streets to sunny uplands.* "I went back to the soul, the essence of what I do. That's been important for me. There have been a few periods over the years where I didn't listen to music. It was almost like the birds stopped singing. I can measure my own wellness by how much I listen to music.* "With this record we were playing lots of stuff in the studio, random things that weren't anything to do with what we were doing, but to get a feeling. We were listening to lots of what I call baggy music, music that is not programmed, slightly out of time, a bit loose, has its own footprint. I do a lot of dance stuff as a DJ and in collaboration with other people and I wanted to step away from that and do something more organic. I know that's clichéd, but that's what I was after." The list of listening ranged from early Bowie and the Stones to Cockney Rebel, Nico and Lou Reed.* "The album was easy to make. There's a lot of love on it, a lot of love, and people I've worked with over the years came and contributed." Just that statement, to those who knew George in his Culture Club days is shocking in itself. Recording sessions were always filled with drama and George hated the studio environment virtually being dragged in to do his vocals and running out as fast as he could.* "Making albums has always been a drama for me, but this was just beautiful and if I do another Culture Club record it has to be fun. It doesn't have to be a headache. We get paid to do what we love. It's such a pleasure to do what we do.* "The album started off with reggae as the template but then it branched out into other things. We didn't want to restrict ourselves because you've got to honour the song, so if a song has a certain type of energy you can't force it into a genre.* "We went back to the '70s, which was the time that shaped me as a musician and a person. The '70s was such a bonkers decade, everything from the Sex Pistols to The Goombay Dance Band. Even though Culture Club were associated so much with the '80s, our roots were in the '70s -- reggae, glam rock, punk rock, disco, electro. I think this record is very '70s."* George has stretched his musical repertoire while retaining his soulfulness and pop sensibility. He's found his inner rock god on "My God," explored country swing on "It's Easy," entered a dream-like altered state on "Any Road," gone sultry and wistful on "Death Of Samantha," and reminded us, and maybe himself, of his playful side on "Nice And Slow."* The exploration of his musical roots mirrors the personal journey of self-discovery he has embarked on since becoming sober in 2008. Another milestone was turning 50 two years ago.* "It was a huge turning point for me. I thought I've got to get my s~~t together, I've got to focus, this is important. I just felt I'd wasted a lot of time. I looked at myself and thought, God, I've done nothing. I know I've done a lot, I've always worked, I've grafted and always made money, but a lot of it was pointless because no one knew what I was doing."* He changed management, got a new DJ agent and set out on the path to show the world the real Boy George, the one who had been obscured in a haze, some of it his own doing, some of it simply the myths that had built up around him.* There is a growing acknowledgement that George is one of those artists whose reputation needs to be reappraised. There has been a steady stream of these over the years. Antony Hegarty paid his tribute to George when they duetted on "You Are My Sister" in 2005. In 2010, Mark Ronson invited George to sing on "Somebody To Love Me." Earlier this year George was a guest of Yoko Ono at the Meltdown festival.* This Is What I Do is set to further enhance that reappraisal and show the world that George is not only back, he's an important artist with an irrepressible zest for life. When you connect your ears will quiver, your soul will shiver and you'll want to dance like Saint Vitus.

  14. with Natasha Kmeto, DJ Dials, Sleazemore, Richie PanicSpanning 4 Four Tet studio albums, remixing, and outstanding live shows amongst many other things, Kieran Hebden’s career remains rooted in all kinds of musical camps. In the past couple of years Four Tet has released his fourth album “Everything Ecstaticâ€, a DVD of music videos working with directors/artists such as Woof Wan Bau and Jason Evans, a DJ Kicks compilation as part of K7’s legendary series, a compilation of his remix work, and has toured the UK, Europe, US and Japan extensively. His work with legendary jazz drummer Steve Reid during this period has been a significant milestone in Hebden’s career – what began as a handful of live collaborations (early shows in London and Paris in 2005 gave a glimpse of the great things to come), soon developed into something on a far grander scale. The fruits of a profound artistic connection that has produced 3 critically acclaimed albums for Domino records. Four Tet’s remixing skills remain fully flexed in recent months having already produced a number of remixes for artists such as Explosions in the Sky, Thom Yorke and Steve Reich.
  15. with Los Rakas, Bayonics and DJ Jah Yzer March 1st show is SOLD OUT J Boog is a man of many influences. The singer of Samoan descent was born in Long Beach and raised in Compton, California. Growing up in the rough streets of Compton, the strong sense of tradition and culture that J Boog absorbed from his family was instrumental in his path to stay off the streets and begin a successful music career. J Boog’s music career became serious in 2005, when a couple of brothers from his neighborhood brought him to one of J’s favorite artists, George “Fiji†Veikosoâ€. The two began working together immediately and J ended up moving to Hawaii in 2006 to continue developing his craft. After releasing his debut album “Hear Me Roar†in 2007, he joined the musical family Wash House Music Inc, a record label based in Hawaii and San Francisco. A year later, in 2008, J Boog met Gramps Morgan of Morgan Heritage and there was an instant chemistry. Gramps was keen on working with J, and set out to make a way. Shortly after, Gramps, J Boog and other Wash House family members were in Jamaica recording in such prestigious places as Bob Marley’s “Tuff Gong†Studio, Don Corleone’s “Hit Makerâ€, Bobby Digital’s “Digital Bâ€, Shaggy’s “Big Yardâ€, Sugar Minott’s “Youth Man Promotion†and more. The results are apparent when listening to Boog’s new music. It is authentic Island Music and genuine Jamaican reggae at the same time. Truly a new and exciting combination. There is a natural theme to Boog’s writing: love. It recurs throughout his work and never once seems contrived. When you listen, you will feel he truly knows matters of the heart. These days Boog is either in a studio, on a stage or catching a flight. Radio interviews have become a daily thing and it’s a little overwhelming for the young artist, though he has been smart enough to keep his humility. He has a great sense of humor and an even better sense of reality. He can be overheard saying how blessed he is on a daily basis. It’s easy to see why J Boog has been winning over fans when you meet him. He has the right spirit and attitude to carry him to the next level.

  17. Magda is an artist who can never be pinned down, no matter the timeframe or time signature. Any one of the Detroit-raised artist's DJ sets or productions breeds a rare feel of mystique and discovery. "I'm really obsessed with finding a line between things - between sounds and between genres. My influences come from a life spent in very different environments, which plays a huge role in the way I connect with music." Dramatic sounds and eccentric basslines carry her multilayered sound, which veers everywhere from funked-out space disco to the intricately-programmed, metallic feel of Detroit to stripped down techno, all the way to Italian horror film soundtracks. The only thing that remains consistent is the element of surprise. Her accidental entry into Detroit's underground party scene as a teenager was the kick-start she needed for a lifelong love affair. Soon all became a blur of "cities, record stores, and parties." In 1998, she joined Minus and began touring the world as Richie Hawtin's sole opener. From there, her distinctive sound began to develop and the rest is history. Stylistically, Magda grooves through opposition - creating sets that are emotion-led yet clinical, having profound expertise with analog and digital technology. Her sound is otherworldly but visceral; dark with a warm sense of beauty and grace; sparse yet wondrously full-bodied with density and bass-swathed extremes. Magda's DJing style has been encapsulated on her mixed CDs 'She's A Dancing Machine,' and her mix for London club Fabric 'Fabric 49' (a mix CD with as much artistry and vision as an original album). In the fall of 2010, Magda revealed her debut, 'From The Fallen Page,' a darkly- tinged, transportive album that curiously combines natural, organic sounds, and modern electronic grace. Similar to her unpredictable DJ sets, 'From The Fallen Page' took listeners from one end of the spectrum to the other, treading the fine lines of extremities along the way. These days Magda isn't home very often. In-between touring, she's fully focused on her recently resurrected label 'Items & Things.' The label's vision always pinpoints the off-kilter and the uncommon, seeking out new artists and sounds that push boundaries. "Items and things are bits and pieces of uniqueness we come across. The label is a platform to launch the music that we love. There are no rules, just sounds we like and artists we believe in." 18. The Shaggs’ “Philosophy of the World†quietly debuted 44 years ago and eventually became the crown jewel for outsider music fans because of its charming and discordant pop songs. Now, the Shaggs’ singer and songwriter, Dot Wiggin is back to break the silence and share her uncommonly cute, uncanny music on her 1st ever solo album, Ready! Get! Go! (virus 460). Frank Zappa said the Shaggs were “better than the Beatles†and Kurt Cobain regarded them as “so obviously the real thing.†The Dot Wiggin Band retains some Shaggs-ish character, without missing a beat or trying to recreate what once was. The band is better at their instruments than Dot’s sisters were but retain the original crude allure that made the Shaggs so special. Ready! Get Go! varies from raw punkish indie to pretty virginal melodies, all with Dot’s whimsical lyrics. Dot’s lyrics are simple but haunting, without ever becoming formulaic or gimmicky. Her peculiar, sweet voice rolls along the different musical styles surprisingly well, tying Ready! Get Go! together. It is exactly what one wants to hear after a 44 year musical hiatus – something reminiscent of the Shaggs, but refreshingly matured. Ready! Get! Go! is a mix of never-recorded Shaggs songs and new classics written by Dot Wiggin and her band! “Speed Limit†is a danceable track with a catchy chorus-chant that showcases the innocent fun loving side of the band, whereas “Boo Hoo,†shows their capacity for the melancholy western tune. “Speed Limit 2†offers rambunctious and berserk rock n’ roll-noise that comes as a powerful surprise and delight. “Banana Bike†is an unrecorded Shaggs song given new life with Dot’s signature bashfulness. Upbeat and heavyhearted, “The Fella with a Happy Heart,†is another classic Shaggs-era song that was never heard until now. The album ends with a cover of “End of the World,†a new take on Skeeter Davis’s 1962 cowboy hit that demonstrates the diversity of Ready! Get! Go! Ready! Get ! Go! is the surprise comeback album of the year. After only a few shows, the band is flooded with requests for touring and concerts as well as press requests. It may have been 44 years since Dot’s last record but 2013 will be the year of Dot Wiggin!
  19. Doors at 7:30pm If you’d spent the last few years of your life wrapped up in an album like Star Of Love, you’d go looking for a little respite, too. Crystal Fighters’ debut was the product of minds made manic by a deluge of fresh experience, both in the studio and on the road. It was inspired by an opera written by a man whose sanity disintegrated before he could finish it. It seemed to be influenced just as much by traditional Basque music from the 18th century as it was modern-day clubland, and contained residual traces of every genre, scene, style or party that had existed in-between. But if album one was the sound of haywire electronic loops frantically kept spinning like plates on sticks, then album two is the story of Crystal Fighters mastering control of those rave repetitions, withdrawing from the chaos of the club to carve their music into the shape of songs. To write the album, Crystal Fighters retreated to the Basque hills that they consider to be their spiritual home. Their music has always born traces of the local sound –traditional instruments like txalapartas and txistus vying in the mix with razor’s edge guitars and percolating techno synths – but the purpose of this mission was different. Immersed in their creative cradle, they wanted to tap into something beyond their immediate experience, to uproot themselves from temporal bounds in order to write timeless songs. These methods proved to be spectacularly successful – Crystal Fighters wrote Cave Rave in its entirety during this two-month spell. There followed a quick detour to Los Angeles to produce the tracks, but after this it was still the songs written in the Basque country that remained most audible – only now the melodies found there had been sharpened into hooks, songs exploded into towering anthems. This revelatory process also exposed the band to a new way of thinking: a realisation that even the cultures they considered traditional are comparatively new. The album draws deeper into universal, history-permeating themes of love, death, insanity and hope; using Basque culture as a stepping stone backward to the spiritual and primal. The musical influences have widened too. Star Of Love was a manic, genre picking rush yet Cave Rave expands the sound palette even further. The beating hearts of Hispanic and African dance and Mexican electronic music 3bal now sit alongside folk and psychedelia, each artfully interpreted and united by the band’s unconfined vision. If Crystal Fighters have surrendered to the power of the song, they haven’t run up the white flag in terms of energy. What’s here is still an adrenal rush, and there is an awful lot here: the grandstanding of American road rock, the sweat of disco, the fervent initiative of punk, the house of Iberian twilights that anticipates everything coming very soon, all at once. What’s changed is Crystal Fighters’ ability to control those surges – and as such Cave Rave feels a considerably more thoughtful and contemplative album than its predecessor. Nevertheless, it has at its heart the same tension that provides all great records their emotional traction. Sebastian Pringle, Gilbert Vierich, and Graham Dickson are the three core members of Crystal Fighters, around whom a larger cadre of vocalists and instrumentalists revolve. They’re the kind of people whose brains seem to be bubbling pots, all intensely preoccupied with anthropology, time travel, spirituality and their place in the universe, even as they’re attempting to create the kind of cohesive sonic pieces that really connect and move people. They seem passionate about creating music that can make people dance, but that is equally adept at finding its way beneath a listener’s skin. With Cave Rave, they Pringle, Vierich and Dickson have managed just that. The melodies, hooks and refrains of the album are so compelling it’s almost as if Crystal Fighters had to devise them simply to navigate a way across the landscapes of their own avid genrelessness, to remain as masters of music that itself seems to be a disputed territory. Here you have a band hell-bent on locating their own musical heaven, a place beyond petty genre parameters, where all that remains, finally, is song, rhythm and sentiment, bursting in vivid colour from the dark of the silent Basque night.
