like T...I lived down south for 4 years and I could not wait to get back.. yes..Ny'ers may not be as laid back...but I was in an all-southern sorority...and let me tell you...those girls take the cake as far as attitude and things like "who are your parents and what do they do, how much money does your family have, did you have a debutante ball....?" etc etc etc don't get me wrong..I met many southerners I loved...but I did meet many who were very concerned about the above things I mentioned....

having done the apt hunt a few times already...I'm an expert... brokers have the most listings, but you will have to pay a hefty fee...usually 10% of the yearly rent or one month's rent... you can..get one without a broker...but it is hard...and takes alot of time...best bet to get one without a broker are: -check the village voice and NY times real estate section online every day....they put in new listings daily...not once or twice a week like in the print version.... -try to be the first one at all open houses...that is what I did for my last apt..the super liked me and never even showed it to anyone else...and I had no broker's fee to pay... good luck
