For me, volume has to do with the number of people in the space and the overall quality of the sound. If the floor starts to empty, I'll lower the volume. If I think the previous guy was tweeking a bit too much, I'll drop it. I try to let the songs control the energy level, not the volume. ------------------ if you're bored: Sat. I think that if you at least ran napster, even though we could store other stuff there via FTP, we also could point other people to the MP3 files with relative ease. ie, it would be a handy place to keep some of my own live sets as MP3's, but I could maximize their availability if you had Napster going too. Just a suggestion. It's very generous of you to offer this, and I don't want to seem like I'm making any sort of demands. You my friend, are on. MD was meant to replace cassettes and it will. It will not usurp Cd's, but I don't think that was the point. You'll remember, cassettes are still around but why? b2b, not sure where you shop, but MD is going to work. All sorts of prerecorded media is available and cheaper than CD. Blank media is more and more available and at ever lower prices. More manufacturers are jumping into the portable player/recorder market. What I think we are going to see is an opening up of the market for MD drives for computers (now only existing in Japan), and then a cross media implementation of MP3, and traditional MD into the same player. MD is here to stay I think. It beats the hell out of CDs. I actually just got a new soundcard today with a digital optical out so I can spit my MP3's from Napster straight into my portable recorder. Not true, you couldn't actually ever execute any of the files unless he was running some sort of terminal server. It is also possible to limit uploads to specific file types, as well as limiting it to up/down with do other priviledges. Depending on how much work he'd want to do administering it, it's not unreasonable. Also, if he in fact wanted to set it up right, a few of us could act as administers and make sure things stay in order and no one goes in and mucks about. ------------------ if you're bored: Sat. What would be ideal is if he then ran Napster on that machine with an I.D. we can all recogize, like CNYC or something.
