  1. tonight is the last night for melvin moore, who has played at filter for almost three years. he is the head of a& R and promotions for Subliminal Records, and he palys that distinctive "subliminal sound," sort of like erick morillo if you have heard him. very muscle-flexing party-hearty house music. the lounge is like a frat party with hip-hop and 80's. saturdays have been inconsistent lately, but being it is a special goodbye party for melvin it should be a bit off-the-hook.
  2. go to: www.danceforthecure.com for info on the roxy event. it is a charity event to support breast cancer research.
  3. johnny is playing at "dance for the cure" (at the Roxy) until about 11:30. He is then walking the five short blocks from the Roxy to Filter 14 and is going on at about midnight. He told me he plans on playing until 4:30 or 5am at Filter, depending on the crowd. tommy
  4. Hi, I'm Tommy Frayne, the owner of Filter 14. I want to let all of you know how excited I am to have this event at Filter. I know it sounds unusual, but this is the kind of show we do here. Sort of like MTV Unplugged where electric rock bands did small acoustic shows, we give big-name, big-ticket DJ's the chance to play a smaller venue and have an intimate evening with their fans. We have done this for Ritchie Hawtin, David Morales, Roger Sanchez, Satoshi Tomiie, Hector Romero, Hybrid, Sandra Collins, Tony Humphries and others. This event was not put together on a whim. 1.) Johnny Vicious ASKED to do this show. Johnny wants to play an intimate event for just friends and loyal fans. He wants to play a small venue, and he appreciates that we have one of the best sound systems in the city. 2.) The event is just $10 on the Clubplanet Guestlist and there are very cheap drinks early on. This is very inexpensive. As someone else pointed out, we are a small venue, and really only fit 150 people. If you do not get onto the guest list before it is closed, I would not recommend coming. 3.) Do not expect the same music and scene you would hear at Exit or Sound Factory. This event is completely different. This is an intimate night with Johnny and his friends. You should expect more serious house music, and fewer "anthems." Johnny put this night together himself. It is something he is looking forward to. When Johnny came to us at Filter 14, we thought it was a great idea. He used to play here when it was called Mother, and it is sort of a homecoming for him. If you would like to share the evening with us, please sign up on the guest list now and come early. (Johnny said he will go on at about midnight, so I would advise arriving by 11pm.) At Filter 14 we pride ourselves with two things: First, giving DJ's leeway to experiment and try new things. And second, giving dancers the ability to dance just a couple of steps away from the greatest DJs in the workd, playing on a great sound system. You may never be able to hear Johnny Vicious at an event like this ever again. If you are a true fan, you should not miss it.
  5. dude, remember she doesn't want a young crowd.
  6. the current "hot" spot is cielo 18 little west 12th. and its only 2 blocks from filter 14 if they don't let you in! (not making a comment about you, the door is pretty rough on everyone.)
  7. If anyone wants to come by Filter 14 this weekend the password to get in free is: "I'm on the Clubplanet guestlist" (there is no actual list, just say that for free admission) Hector Romero of Saw*Recordings is playing Friday Melvin Moore of Subliminal Records is playing Saturday I don't post much on CP, but with all the club closings someone suggested that I give you guys this invite. If this is in the wrong forum, I'm sorry. There seemed to be a lot of party announcements floating around. Filter 14 is a small club, but we have a great sound system and nice vibe. The password will really get you in free all night. Filter 14 is located at 432 west 14th street, between 9th and 10th avenues. I hope some of you might come by. We are not too far from ARC ($5 cab) if you are going there later. Tommy

  10. 432 west 14th. between 9th and 10th avenues, on the corner of washington street. entrance will be on washington street tonight. tell the password DISCRETELY to elizabeth outside. i'll save some 23 year old ladies for you. tommy
  11. listen i hate putting something that looks like blatant promotion in this forum, but because you asked....... the crowd is a bit older (27-35) and a lot of the peeps are his crowd who used to frequent his "scatalogics" parties. ulysses has been playing here about once a month and it is always a great set. tommy (owner of filter 14)
  12. yes, at filter 14. ulysses doing a "history of electro" set. free admission before midnight if you say you are on the con-fu-sion guest list. there are also $3 beers and $4 well drinks from 9 -11:30 tommy
  13. the pier holds 6 or 7 thousand. last year for fat boy slim and crystal method it was empty, about 1500 came. don't despair, just come.
  14. last year for fat boy slim and crystal method it was fairly empty and you just had to walk onto the pier. but i hear they expect more this year.
  15. chris fortier is going to be at filter on may 23rd, two weeks from today.
  16. satoshi is playing filter may 21st and june 18.
  17. it just seemed like people were really getting angry. (i didn't see the words april fools in the first post and i believed it for a while too.) sorry if i ruined your fun. i guess you could post something about exit, soundfactory and the roxy going back to 21+ to be admitted if you wanted to get everyone pissed. oh i guess i just blew that joke too.
  18. I think some of you have yto remember that it is APRIL FOOLS DAY.
  19. centro-fly for popular house and filter 14 for progressive on thursdays are best. pangea is at 417 lafayette, fridays is the "night" there, almost all other nights are dead, and you will not like the music, but the crowd is very upscale, so dress well and bring women to be able to get in.
  20. did you start dj'ing yesterday? you choose your record based on info on the record sleeve, or info you put on the sleeve on a separate label. i know im old, and old-school, (my first club job was in 1984), but but we labeled the record sleeve with bpm, key, and break points. who would ever look at the center when choosing a piece of vinyl? put the info on the jacket and all your vinyl can be white labels.

  22. just paste white stickers on your records. when no one can get the info, they walk away.
  23. i am the owner of filter 14. call me at 212-366-5680, or email me at frayne@mindspring.com and i will help you out and get you and your friends comps. tommy frayne
  24. Free Admission tonight to hear Melvin Moore of Subliminal Records. Most of you know him as the early and late DJ at Centro-Fly on Thursdays for Subliminal Sessions. All you need to do is know the password :: "Back 2 Bassixs" (That also happens to be the name of the party.) Just Tell the doorman "Back 2 Bassixs" when he asks you what party you are here for and you will receive FREE admission for your entire group. Flyer magazine annual awards (dec. 2001 issue) called the party the "best house music party to jack your body" in a tie with danny tenaglia's party at Vinyl. It is a different mood, though. more drinking and party themed. Doors open 9pm. Melvin comes on at 10pm and plays till just after 4am 21+, with I.D. 432 west 14th street between 9th and 10th avenues on the corner of Washington Street (entrance will be on Washington Street tonight)
  25. i just want to be straight about this. the password is real and will get you in free, but I do not think Paris Hilton is going to be here tonight or any night. Although Filter 14 is a fun place, i don't think it is upscale enough for her. it is sort of a joke around here. we have had "alec Baldwin lists" and "Lizzy Grubman lists" in the past as well.
