  2. Friday August 12 marks this NYC duo's return to Boston. After their lauded, and infamous 2004 appearance at Rise & Pravda, Astro&Glyde return to promote their latest mix compilation, The LeSouk Sunday Sessions. Sunday night: while most folks are winding down their weekend, Sunday Sessions founder Swamy and resident DJs Astro&Glyde are marshalling a packed house of full-throttle party people on a 14-hour odyssey of funk-filled beats. Le Souk Sunday Sessions is the soundtrack for the energetic and non-stop house music bacchanal that keeps the weekend going into Monday morning in New York’s East Village. This double disc set captures the two sides of the Le Souk Sunday Sessions that have made these parties legendary as a global party destination: the sun-kissed sexiness on the terrace by day (Swamy) and the down ‘n dirty grooves by night inside (Astro&Glyde)! Seen from the street, the unassuming North African lounge/restaurant just looks like another East Village eatery; but inside, through the hookah-smoke filled passages, is a path to a different world. Sunday Sessions was born in the tiny sun-drenched lawn in the back of the restaurant, and the first parties immediately intimated images of the white island paradise of Ibiza. As the legends of the endless weekend spread and the party built up over the years, the owners of Le Souk met the demand of clubbers by building … down? Excavating 20ft down into the back patio, the party literally went underground. Now in its 4th year, with a newly expanded patio terrace, the Le Souk Sunday Sessions continues the journey. Sunday Sessions has also earned a special place in the global DJ circuit. New York City is a required stop for DJs touring the states, and before skipping town after a weekend of spinning at NYC’s top clubs, you’ll often find the world’s superstar DJs kicking back at Le Souk. Whether they’re gracing the decks as impromptu guest DJs or just taking the whole scene in, Le Souk Sunday Sessions has played host to Sasha, John Digweed, Danny Howells, Sander Kleinenberg, Roger Sanchez, Danny Tenaglia, Mr. C, The Scumfrog, Lee Burridge, Behrouz, and other elite players among the dance music cognoscenti. There’s an upfront energy and twisted journey you take at Le Souk where the DJs understand what it takes inspire a crowd and to keep the party going long after the weekend should technically be over. In the city that never sleeps, this is the weekend that never ends. It’s the latest incarnation in New York City’s tradition of outrageous parties, underground clubbing and hedonistic dance music. There’s no other place in America that brings together such diversity and experiences. In generations past there was Studio 54, Paradise Garage and The Loft, then Limelight’s heady club kid days that led into the DJ-centric era of Twilo and the explosion of DJ culture. Le Souk invokes all these memories with it’s full-throttle free-for-all party aesthetic and attitude. Let the Le Souk Sunday Sessions be your souvenir soundtrack for the summer and your passport to the party that never ends. “Local house DJ Jason Swamy hosts this house party that's become a packed-and-sweaty fave. During the summer months, when the back area features an open-air roof, some say it's as close to Ibiza as you'll get in Alphabet City.†– NEW YORK METRO “For progressive-house lovers who refuse to let the weekend end, North African restaurant-lounge Le Souk is the spot to be.†– TIME OUT NEW YORK James & Gaby will also be a part of the RISE DJ Sessions @ Virgin on Saturday Aug 13.

  11. oof. it's taken a couple days to re-coup from this one but all I can say is wow. I wasnt even so sure we were going to make the trip down as hurricaine Dennis plowed its way across the souther tip of Florida, but just mangaed to bounce over to the gulf side in time for the weather to break in Miami... I got into Miami around 930PM Saturday night with just enough time to get to the hotel & change out of my monkey suit from the wedding just hours earlier... After a some quick cleanup, and fresh clothes we donned our fresh schvimvests and headed over to Space prepared for any wetness/wind/storms that could possibly occur that night. As we reached the doors @ Space, it was abundantly clear that the cops @ the door were not impressed by our saftey equipment, and threatened us with a federal offense lest we fork over our life preservers. Minor setback. Now on to dealing with the guestlist. I ask 'Marcus'for Joe Mama +3 on list, and he's like "go tell the guy over there what you just asked me." I do this, 'Marcus' laughs heartily as the guy reluctantly forks over a $10-spot for losing the bet. Apparently, Joe Mama is a funny name in Miami... Well we get in , and the main floor of the room is rammed.. One of the residents, Cedric I believe was rockin the floor pretty hard when we got into the booth, but that's when the fantasy funk journey really began. Steve's relentless attack on the floor began promptly @ 3AM. Sizzling in the booth: Deftly weaving in & out of tracks @ a f*****sh pace, music & time were warping together as the night rolled on and tracks that seemed to go on forever disappeared almost as quickly as they were mixed in... Maybe that had more to do with the copious amounts of Grey Goose on the loose in the booth. Try and say that 5 times real quick... Still pushing the floor to a frenzy, it was getting closer and closer to that magical time when the terrace, aka la terraza, aka the patio, aka the roof or whatever you wish to call it beckons you. it was still quite dark when our party ventured upstairs, but the morning was just about to break... The girls warming up the terrace... By 730AM and another 3 bottles of Goose later, the Terrace was getting mighty saucy... The weather was perfect, and the groove & vibe were flawless, though I cant say the same for my vision... Musical highlights: "Rock You Like A Hurricaine" - Scorpions (SPorter's Remix@ 35,000 feet): I want someone else to tell me who remixes tracks en route to Miami especially for Space... Closing out the Terrace with 'Vice Grip' (Colin Farrell in da house HOLLA)... Emjae feat. Bryan Adams - Run To You.... Also, it should be noted that if you should venture to Space, and your friends get really drunk, keep an eye on them. Otherwise they could be tucked into a cab without your knowing, and found on the side of Alton Road with one shoe... PS - Nice meetin ya Digital7...

  14. A lot of Boston heads rolling into Miami for this... Steve's first headlining gig @ Space from 3-6AM then the Terrace from 6-???... PORTERHOUSE PRESS RELEASE: STEVE PORTER presents ‘PORTERHOUSE’ 2005 Summer 2005 Tour Dates, New Residencies & Porterhouse EP & CD. “[steve Porter’s] original music and DJ sets simply possess some of the same techy traits, funked up beats and cool meandering edge you might hear in an underground German club. On Homegrown Porter puts all original material together into a seamless, expertly mixed fashion to make a compelling CD that feels like the future of dance music.†(BPM MAGAZINE) STEVE PORTER began his beefy assault on dancefloors with his inaugural PORTERHOUSE party at the State nightclub, Winter Music Conference 2005 - to a rousing crowd that clamored for more even after the last beat dropped. Since then he has continued on his HOMEGROWN debut artist album tour in over 30+ US cities, bringing his PORTERHOUSE brand of “no rules, no borders†approach to dance music across the Americas. This summer, Steve Porter will kick off 2 new quarterly residencies across North America with a few more cities pending. Each Porterhouse event will feature elaborate decorations, stunning visuals, live performances and of course, cutting-edge PORTERHOUSE music. Steve will actually kick off with a few select dates with superstar DJ Sasha on his Fundacion NYC US tour. In a recent interview, Sasha recalls Steve’s “great energy,†a trait that Steve brought to his guest slot at Sasha’s Fundacion party at Avalon Hollywood (April 2005) and continues to bring along with his “infectious house music†in his own DJ sets and Porterhouse parties. This is just the precursor to the upcoming PORTERHOUSE EP due out in November 2005 and a new mix compilation PORTERHOUSE in January 2006. This will be eagerly anticipated, especially after his debut artist album HOMEGROWN has already garnered such high praise as the “future of dance music†(BPM MAGAZINE) and as an “infectious new sound that blends elements of funk, techno, retro-electro, trance and progressive house.†(INNERPHASENY.COM) The album release will be supported by a full U.S. & world tour with the PORTERHOUSE experience going on the road featuring elaborate decorations, stunning visuals, live performances and of course, cutting-edge PORTERHOUSE music. Steve will also hand pick guest artists to be featured during the PORTERHOUSE nights including long-term collaborators (Agent 001, HDS & Bons, Joe Mama) and international guests DJs. This Boston transplant and adopted New Yorker is the son of a famous scientist and as such, Steve was always somewhat of a prodigy. With the support of his mom (she baked the apple pie on the cover of the HOMEGROWN album) and strong mentoring network (Chris Fortier, John Digweed, Sasha), his talents have manifested into a successful musical production and DJing career. This one-time high school prom DJ and wedding mobile disc jockey has artfully amassed a musical arsenal of over 50 original productions and 30 remixes (including Amber, Iio and Andrea Britton remixes) and is now playing alongside one of the world’s most revered DJs and is quickly coming into his own limelight. In contrast to his humble persona, Steve continues to stand at the helm of the dancefloor enthralling clubbers globally. Get ready for your next helping of PORTERHOUSE coming to a city near you!
