  1. I really want to join New York Sports Clubs (I'm currently a member at Synergy) but I can't really afford the $100 a month. I've heard of people bargaining deals and paying lower prices. Does anyone here know a good way to get a price drop?
  2. Okay, so I just got a nice (but small) new apartment in manhattan and now I NEED a bartending job for more cash somewhere on the island. Does anyone here have any hookups or connections? I'll take any leads at all. Thanks guys. Chaz
  3. Okay, I know this question has been posted in various incarnations, but I'm pretty desperate: I graduate college at the end of this year and I'm going to be real desperate to find a bartending job to pay rent and student loans off. Can anyone give me useful advice as to how a guy can get a good bartending job in this city? I have three years of experience in Connecticut tending bar and I'll be living either in lower-Manhattan or Brooklyn. I mean, I have a lot of time to search around, but I really need to find SOMETHING before I graduate at the end of April. So I'm starting early to hopefully alleviate some stress. Any advice at all would be so helpful. Thank You! Charles
  4. Thanks for the advice guys. I'm going to check ebay and a few of the bargain newspapers around the north east for 1200's first... Otherwise I THINK I'm going to go with the Numarks. If any else has some advise... please post! Thx alot!
  5. Okay, here's the deal. I've been spinning on a friend's 1200's for the past two years. I'm a fairly decent DJ with pretty good mixing and basic scratching skills who's done a handful of parties (all with 1200's). Sadly to say, the time has finally come when I can no longer use my friend's 1200's to practice. Now I need to go out and buy my own... the thing is, college takes up all my fucking money so I can't afford a pair of technics and a mixer. There were some mid-range Numark tables I've been looking at that are in my budget. But what I want to know is... how much will switching back and forth from numarks at home and technics at parties mess up my flow? The Numarks I would buy would be direct-drive fairly high torque (but not the ultra-high torque you get with 1200's). Like I said, I predominately do house mixing and only do basic scratching occationally. Will the Numarks really fuck up my flow? I also have the the option of getting a pair of getting a pair Stanton tables with about the same specs as the Numark tables (except the Stanton's are straight armed). Does anyone have a Stanton or Numark preference? I wish I just had the cash for technics. But I don't ::sigh::
  6. Bartenders: What are your most commonly asked-for drinks? Drinkers: What do you usually get when you go to the bar? I've been a bartender for a few years but never in NYC. So now I'm lookin for a job and I wanna make sure I got my drinks of the area covered... peace! Chaz
  7. Can anyone out there spot me a list of some hot tribal songs to get? New or old, I don't care. My music collection is getting stale so I thought some new tribal would spice it up. Thanks! Chaz
  8. I couldn't believe my own eyes. Does anyone remember that movie KIDS? Remember the scene where there are like these 3 10 year old kids smoking pot? Well the part with the 40 year old guy and his drunk, stoned, and rollin' 13 year old son reminded me of a (much worse) scene from that movie... I just couln't believe my eyes. It was very hard to watch. I sort of feel bad for the guy.... I mean.. didn't he say something like he was never even drunk until he was 39 years old? Then all of a sudden all this stuff hit him like a freight train. I'm glad the majority of his kids straightened out (except the one that was in the military...isn't that ironic). What does everybody else think?
  9. mindy k - moments in love (johnny vicous mix).... one of the greatest builds/climaxes too!
  10. 1. Danny Tenaglia 2. DJ Tiesto 3. Deep Dish 4. Johnny Vicious 5. Armin van Buuren 6. PVD 7. DJ Scot Project 8. Digweed 9. Danny Howells 10. Jonathan Peters (hey... his remixes may suck but madd props to those 24 hour parties)
  11. "Going Through It" has got to be one of the sickest songs I have ever heard JP spin. :: I hope it's released publically.
  12. Hey! I'm a semi-new DJ and I've gotta spin at my college tomorrow night. Now I'm pretty descent at beat matching... well... I can do it most of the time (i know lots of good ways to fake when i run into trouble, lol). But I KNOW people are going to want to hear IIO-Rapture (John Creamer & Stephanie K Mix) and that song is just giveing me LOADs of trouble. Can anyone help me out? I'll be spinning consistantly, for the most part, at 132 BPM (140 will be too much for this crowd... so I'm droppion some of the slower tracks). So I THINK the creamer Mix of Rapture is about 129 BPM, right? So I adjust about 2.1% so it's playing at 132BPM and I try to match at the 64th beat... and that damn rapture beat just won't match right. Any help please? I'm running out of time... Thanks
  13. Can any DJ's out here give me some beat mixing pointers? I can do it... match 1st beat of one song with the 1st beat of another song, playing at the same tempo.... but not every time. Every now and then I just can't get the friggin' things right. Can anyone give me some additional help or tricks or anything? Oh, and BTW, to help me out, I've written down the BPM's of all my songs. Is every 1 BPM +/- .8% on the technics? ie: the difference between 140 BPM and 138 BPM would be -1.6% on the table? Just looking for some help. I've got a couple college gigs this week, and I do fine when I preplan my set... but I got to get out of that habit. Thanks for any help you can give me. Chaz
  14. "This is not factoria. This is not factoria" - Junior Vasques, If Madonna Calls..... now THAT'S funny. Chaz
  15. That's what you get for voting Republican.... blood. PEACE, NOT WAR
  16. Hey everyone! I've got a battle of the DJ's coming up at my college next month so I'm trying to grab some tracks that I think the crowd will like. I aiming for the whole progressive trance sound (maybe even a little deep house, who knows... i gotta see how they react). But anyway, I've only been DJing since last summer, but I've got a pretty good collection of house and anthems... but I'm looking to drop more songs like: iio - rapture plummet - damaged bedrock - heaven scent delerium - innocente (i'm a Mr. Sam fan, sorry tiesto) BT - Dreaming (Eric Kuppers Hysteria Mix) <-- madddd old, but great track Tiesto tracks - 643, Urban Train, Sweet Surrender (can't go wrong with SS!) You get the idea... I would really like some newer tracks, but old ones welcome too. Vocal or not vocal, doesn't matter to me... I'm just trying to find more great songs like the ones above. Thanks! -Chaz
  17. Yup, that's the list. The mag also listed 101-150, briefly on a side bar. The home address is djmag.com
  18. I picked up a copy of DJ Magazine at Barnes and Noble and they listed the 150 Best DJs in the world this month... not for anything, I found the list to be, for the most part, VERY acurate.... They rated Digweed #1, Sasha #2, Tanagelia #3.... Oakenfold, PVD, Tiesto, and others followed in Top 10 ranks... but I noticed that in all 150 listed, Jonathan Peters was nowhere to be found. Now, I understand that DJ Magazine is London based, not NY... but they listed DJs from ALL over the world. Johnny Vicious was another one that didn't recieve any recognition. Every other major name was in there somewhere. What do you think? -Chaz
  19. Anyone out there with a good list of acapellas that would be willing to share with me? lol... I got the sudden vibe to do some remixing but I don't have any good vocals. I've got a few...but nothing too great.
  20. I like vocals... but one of the reason they're so mediocre is the fact that sometimes the actually music sucks and the singing is good. Havign a good singer doesn't compensate for shitty music. That's why when vocals are make correctly and spun at the right times, they're really great. JP does this the best if you ask me. Chaz
  21. Foggy - Come Into My Dream (Club & Mad Mixes) Plummet - Damaged IIO - Rapture JP & Luz Divina - In Your Eyes Tiesto & Sarah M. - I Love You
  22. Where do you live? I buy from Love Music Ltd. in New Rochelle, NY. It's on North Ave. Or online try satelliterecords.com
  23. Johnny Vicious feat. Myndy K. - Moments .... one of my most favorite builds ever.
  24. First of all, I never said he would "encourage" anyone. I said he'd compete with you... which is exactly what he's doing. AND, I dunno bout you, but as a remixer/DJ, I think the underground CD's would promote me to a whole new group of people. NYC UG Party doesn't need to affect a DJ's credibility. If your good, your good.
