  1. Charles, When I saw Teri a few weeks ago in Chicago, she played very little of the stuff you listed. She stuck to real UK sort of Hard House and tore it up. I don't know if that is what she usually plays but that's what she did in Chicago on that Saturday.
  2. OK...all of these are actual WMC rumors that I have heard in the last week. I have no idea if any of them are true but I doubt most are. There's a lot of confirmed parties but those should be announced by the venues themselves when they're ready. 1. God's Kitchen will be taking over a venue on SoBe to do a week of events. 2. Spundae will be doing the same. 3. A big club will do a completely local DJ event on Saturday after Ultra. 4. Puffy is looking for a venue to showcase his new electronic sound at WMC. What do you think??
  3. WMC 2002 - HOOJ CHOONS PARTY @ OPIUM...we had Tayo, Freq Nasty, Hybrid and Adam Freeland playing together in the room that's now Prive. One word....AMAZING.
  4. I walked into Crobar Chicago a few weeks ago at 2 am on Saturday night and Terri Bristol was banging out Hard House at about 145 beats per minute. The place was completely packed and going off. She mixed in some breaks and kept the place in a frenzy until closing time. While it's not my personal favorite, (a little to fast and aggressive), you can't deny the results she was getting. Every club should have the vibe and energy that they had that night.
  5. I'm so glad someone brought up Mathew Dekay. My friends from Dance Valley in Amsterdam turned me on to him a while ago and have been sending me his new productions and mixes. I think this kid is going to be huge. In Holland, they call him the new Sasha. Nice one Obby!

    Anyone

I didn't hear that but I know that if you logged in as Sonic instead of your usual screen name you're trying to start something.
  8. Well.....back in the day...you have to remember that I'm an old guy and have lived in the Grove for most of my life......The Grove was the epicenter of nightlife in Miami. We're talking 1980's now folks. There was no South Beach as we now know it. The club scene was in the Grove or Lauderdale, and Lauderdale was considered the "college Scene." Then came South beach and eventually Downtown and the rest was history. There is still a nightlife scene in the Grove but it's changed. I live in the South grove and many times walk in to have a drink at Mr. Moes or a meal at Le Buchon du Grove. Flavour does really well. The Grove's not the place to go if you're looking for a night of club hopping but it's still a very cool place to hang. There are lots of bars and local joints and I'm into that. If you want to avoid the college madness, stay away on Thursday nights. It does get a little ugly out there after all those kegs get consumed.
  9. I thought you were not into the guest DJs. Aren't you all about the locals...or have you caught bignamedjitis?
  10. Armand, I am assuming that you have something to do with Privilege...... I hope you understand that I really wish nothing but the best for you and the venue. You're never going to please all of the people all of the time so don't sweat my comments or anyone elses for that matter. I'll check it out again this weekend.......

There's hope for the Saleen after all.

    Breaks at Space

I don't really think you can understand today without looking to the past. It's musical evolution.

    Breaks at Space

By the way....I got a breaks CD from Sean Bausay and FX that's so good it's still in my car deck...alongside Rennie Pilgrem's Perfecto Breaks.

    Breaks at Space

I've never been a fan of "Florida Breaks", as some people call it. But, I am a HUGE fan of the "UK Breaks" sound. I've been into this sound for a long time and brought a lot of those guys to Shadow over the years and continue to do it as often as I can. I can tell you that the people who came to Shadow to see guys like Adam Freeland, Freq Nasty, Hybrid were a great crowd. Most were really into all genres of dance and not one sound or another exclusively as seems to be the case with a lot of clubbers now. People were more willing to open up to something different back then...or so it seemed. Last conference we did "UK Breaks" rooms at the Hooj party and the Perfecto Party and both nights went completely mental. Most of the "progressive" or "Trance" DJs will drop a breaks track or three in the middle of their set, and the place usually goes off. All this stereotyping of different types of dance music only serves to limit the scene. People miss so much great music because they don't like the label.
  15. V - I think you and Phillip should just get drunk and not go to the party. Then you should do a completely honest review of the party you didn't go to.
  16. The dates appear to be set. The reason I think it's better the way they did it last year is because it gives us a whole week of parties building up to the weekend. In the past, when they have gone Saturday through Wednesday, the Tuesday and Wednesday parties have been so-so because a lot of the out-of-towners have gone home already. The conference organizers really care very little about the party schedule because they make no money from those parties.
  17. I believe this is reliable. I would not buy the tickets yet...but I think it's pretty well done.
  18. Those are the dates I was given last week.
  19. Your points are well taken. You neglected, however to answer any of my questions. If, as you say, "Privilege is the only club built today for the sole reason of music", then why the attitude at the door or the high prices? The answer is that the club has to strike a balance between being a business and a place that's all about mucic. The answer is that they are not in it entirely for the music. They, like everyone else in the business, are trying to make some money. The answer is that no club can be completely about the music.....sad but true. I too give them respect for what they are doing. I guess I just expected more from the place. I also happen to believe that the customer service issues should be as important as the music and was surprised by the level of service. If you think that my comments were motivated by the idea of Privilege as competition for Nocturnal you are dead wrong. Nocturnal will be a totally different animal and is a while away. I'm sure that there will be folks who hate what we build and do but that's the way it goes. My comments stemmed from the fact that I went to the club and music aside, I didn't care for the place. You are lashing out at me and throwing around comparisons to malls and food courts without any understanding of what we're doing. I think if you really understood the whole project you would probably like it...why not wait to judge? As I said before, I really hope that Privilege does well. It is good for our scene and could be an alternative to the everyday. Time will tell and this is all crap anyway.
  20. It really was not my intention to be negative or to downplay what they are trying to do at Privilege. For the record, I wish them all the success in the world and I admire what they're doing. I just think that we should be realistic in our reviews and comments. Marcos and Armando, why lash out at me with personal attacks? It's really not my intention to "take" you in any direction with the events I do. I do them for different reasons and usually have a great time being diverse. I never expect everyone to like them. I love the idea that the club could be a place for the musically educated to gather and listen to top quality techno. I just don't think they are doing very much right. I love the music and I am in the scene and I have little desire to be uncomfortable and pay high prices to hear even music that good. Don't you think that $12 drinks in an underground club is a contradiction. Does the service have to be bad because they are about music? Other than the music, what is different or interesting about the place? Why haven't they been doing well? Please don't take my comments as hostile. You guys are promoting the place so it's understandable that you would be sensitive to those comments. Perhaps I could have found a better, more positive way to say it and for that I am sorry.
  21. A lot has been said about this place and their chances for survival but the truth is that it was a bad idea to start with. Unfortunately good music alone won't overcome all the things that are working against them. A better move would have been to put their concept into the old Fuel/Living Room Downtown space. I don't understand why people don't do a little homework before throwing their money into something like this.
  22. Where are they? Anyone go to Nerve for Seaman or Crobar for Tong or Level for Acosta?
  23. Saleen, you cheap fuck. Get Guyman to loan you the $21 and shut the fuck up. I can't believe that you wanted to go and $21 is all it took to change your mind. Besides, it's for the kids....
  24. The first club in that building opened before Space. How much time should it take? The answer to all the questions is NO WAY. It's been tried and none of the attempts have achieved the smallest bit of success.
  25. We are talking about the mother of all bad locations when we speak of Rio. I knew the guys who built it and I've known most of the 20 or so operators who have tried to make a go of that place and all have failed. Remember the first three rules of starting a business...LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION. All that location has going for it is cheap rent.
