  1. With the Chicago phenomenon known as "The Mad Thinker" MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND NO WORK ON MONDAY SUNDAY SESSIONS NOT TO BE MISSED If you close your eyes, open your ears, open your mind, and let your body flow you will find yourself in a new plane previously unexplored. Seamlessly blended tracks vibrate your spine while soothing your soul. Julius builds you up gradually through loops of energy bursts and just when you reach your climax he drops you back to a lounge state awaiting the next climb to the peak. Many people call the music house, "the Mad Thinker" makes it home. In these modern times of separation among house music "the Mad Thinker" seems to take the contemporary underground tracks to a level that even satisfies the old school purist. At the same time, he lures the fanatic deeper in the vibe. After all, a DJ's job is to lead the listener into a different zone by allowing him to escape from anything rigid to the point that he goes home the next morning 100% cleansed of anxiety. "the Mad Thinker" will take this job on and complete it. Through his 6 years of blessing the turntables, Julius has built an impressive track record. Not only does he provide the entertainment, he is a co-founder and Partner of 3° Global, a friends network for the unification of Chicago nightlife. He is one of the six resident dj's of 3° Ultra Lounge and the Some Call It House…We Call It Home tour. He also plays the second Friday of every month at Chicago's Zentra. Julius has played along side dj's such as, Derrick Carter, Ron Trent, Alexi Delano, Mark Grant, Diz, Derrick May, Gemini, and Ra Soul along with 3° Global co-founders Monna and Jeremiah Seraphine. Julius has also played with DJ Genesis and Sam "the Man" Burns in Washington DC. Chicagoans can hear "the Mad Thinker" at various clubs such as: Betty's Blue Star Lounge, Lava Lounge, 5th Floor/Rednofive and Zentra. San Francisco natives can hear "the Mad Thinker" at clubs such as Rawhide, The Top, Backflip, Liquid, and Galaxy Club. As for Global Househeadz, "the Mad Thinker" has played throughout the United States, and repeatedly at the Winter Music Conference for Warner Brothers. He can also be found on the famous web site groovetech.com. Julius "the Mad Thinker" plays records strictly from his heart, and awaits the day he can play all seven continents to ensure his music is a universal language. Sunday Sessions 3 Degrees Website

  4. Just a quick reminder before we head off for the weekend. This Sunday the return of Sunday Sessions with a full on set by the Basement Boys. Teddy Douglas & DJ Spen will be playing the whole party from 5pm till Midnight. FREE ENTRY for everyone before 6pm... Sunday Sessions
  5. Thats right it is. Right across the street. In fact any NYSC members that come over will get free entry on the 6th. Next Sunday is our first night there so will see how it goes. SYOTDF See You On The Dance Floor
  6. Absolutely. There will never be another B&S. I should know I worked there for 6 years. But The Sunday Sessions party is not trying to replace it. It's just a similar crowd and same style of music brought to you by the creator of B&S. Just trying to give NYC heads a place to hang out on Sunday afternoon after brunch where they can feel they are in a welcome environment and not being pre-judged. Also I would point out to the younger member of this board that the crowd will amost certainly be OVER 30. Music has no age limit.
  7. Same B&S promoter and same kind of vibe. Starting nexr Sunday at Suite 16's 5pm till Midnight SUNDAY SESSIONS
  8. @ SHOW 6pm till late $10 to get in before 8pm Very unpretentious crowd and music is slammin. Very soulful deep music with very mixed crowd NO EUROTRASH at all.
  9. There was a Police report(shown to me by a friend in the Police department) that stated that the manager(Who you think is not to blame) of the club as well as the club owner and head of security were all aware that these kids were OD'ing on a cocktail of GHB, E, Coke,Special-K etc and rather than call 911 which would have automatically meant the Police coming to the space the made some very specific choices. First choice was to hire a private EMS unit(paid for by the management of Twilo) to be permanently situated outside the club in the event that they had a serious health or drug problem. The second management decision made was to put some of these kids into a small storage room and let them sleep it off with the assistance of several cold buckets of water. There was even a CCTV camera in the room and I understand that some of this was actually recorded. The tapes however mysteriously vanished. When all this came to light due to several Poice interviews and pressure put on the head of security and some ex-employees of the club, all was revealed and it WAS the management that made that fateful decisions. Lucky for them that nobody died else they would be now be in Prison serving long sentences. What then happened was that the city tried a series of methods to try and shut down the club and came up with the idea of sending in the Department of Buildings to do some spot checks on the premisis and subsiquently found a series of violations. On the strength of these violations there was enough ammunition for the DOB to recommend the withdrawl of the cabaret license. In essence they used the fact that you could not dance to shut down the space. (quite clever really) The community board(4) them had a meeting together with the buildings past owner and decided that the space would never be allowed again to house a full time club and the names of the management were recorded as undesirables within the State Liquor Authority and some other city agencies. When that manager then became the head honcho at Vinyl, first thing he did was change the name to ARC then re-apply to the SLA for a liquor license not with his name but under the name of his rich German investor. The community board 1 however were made aware that this person was involved in ARC and was another major reason why Arc was denied the application for liquor. I believe the vote was 27 against and 3 for the license approval. There is a massive Condo development going up directly across and all around the street from ARC and it's only a matter of time before the pressure will be put on ARC to close or re-establish itself as a gourmet supermarket, coffee house, bookstore in order to serve the ever expanding residential Tribeca community. The reason why Crobar succeded in getting all their licenses for their space on 28th street and approval by community board 4 was that the Crobar owners (Cal & Kenny) have a good track record of running clubs in Chicago and Miami. They too are real professionals that know how to run their space. I believe that within a year Spirit and Crobar NYC are going to completely dominate the New York Superclub scene with their originality and dedication to providing an amazing entertainment experience coupled with the best music and DJ's in the World. The days of Arc, SF,EXIT,Webster Hall, Roxy, Limelight are all but numbered and will soon come to an end. There, that enough info for you???
  10. The reason they got the liquor license (6am) as well as get the ever impossible Cabaret license was because the owner (1 man and not a corporation) convinced the community board that the space would be for the most part a performance space and NOT a club. The only condition was that he would be allowed to opeate a dance club 1 day a week. If after 6 months of operation he has no violations and a clean track record then the community board (4) would approve a second and probably third night as a club. All the Hollistic, theater, restaurant themes were a very important part of why the space was allowed to even open again. Yet you are bitchin about them not making it a full on club again and why it's not a Sascha & Digweed club again. Look at the bigger picture here and not just your instant gratification. This city is steeped in Politics and things are done for reasons. Admittedly the club scene is in total dissaray at the moment but that is manily due to bad management and owners running spaces for the only purpose but to milk as much money as they can out of it. The previous manager of Twilo (now running ARC) is the reason it got shut down because he lost control, yet you still go and support him and blame the city for shutting down clubs. Blame the person who attracted the wrong attention. Throwing OD'd kids into cupboards till the drugs wore off was not the smartest thing in the world to do. The reason's Exit and Sound Factiory got shut down was also for bad management and lack of proper control. Oh and guess what, Now they are marked clubs and will in time be shut for good. Why do you think the ROXY never gets hassle? Because the owners are real professionals and know how to manage their space. They have good community relations and regularly contribute to the area as well as have a good relationship with the local Police Captain and Fire Chief. The owner of Spirit also did a very smart thing because he didn't lease the space. He bought the ENTIRE building which for the community gives him a far stronger interest in making sure he protects his investment. Now we all know that possibly the Olympics could be here in 2012 as well as a new football staduim being built on the West side. This area is the last industrial area in Manhattan to explode and it's about to do just that. Look at what happened to Tribeca during the 90's and how much money is there now. The West side of Manhattan is about to get museams, clubs, bars restaurants, boutiques, theaters, art galleries all spilling up from Chelsea so Spirit is in the perfect position to take advantage of this growth. Sorry for rambling but these things need to be said an some clarity needs to be posted on these boards as the drama from false rumors is part of the reason things in clubland are so bad.
  11. Arc which used to be called Vinyl and before that Shelter only ever had a Beer and Wine license because the community board (1) blocked almost every attempt for them to get one. Secondly because of the now defuct Wetlands and North River bar, the club fell into the 500 foot rule which again stopped it from getting a full liquor license. When the owners of Vinyl ran the club the police sent in several underage drinkers in to purchase wine and beer and they got caught serving to underage. Therefore the SLA revoked their beer and Wine licence for 2 years. However during that 2 year period 97-99 the club was the scene of a shooting during a Saturday night Hip-Hop party and therefore the Community board together with the SLA said the club could NEVER get their license back When the current manager (Ex-Twilo manager)and his German investor took over the space in 2002 they made several attempts to regain the license and the SLA together with HUGE community board objection refused them outright. The community in that area does not want that club to even be there anymore and are doing everything in their powder to get the space closed. Thats why the security at the club is so tight. Hope this info brings you some clarity?
  12. If you really want to know what it's going to be like then I can tell you with very good knowledge that it will be an almost carbon copy of the Dublin Club. www.spiritdublin.com The owner bought the entire building for $13 M. It has 6 floors and is approx 80,000 square feet. The club is divided into sections or areas knwn as Body, Mind, Soul The second floor is being knocked out to create a mezzanine that looks out over the basement floor main room. The Basement floor (BODY) will house the main room(the old twilo main room) which will also double as the theater with stage and dressing rooms where for most nights of the week there will be a show (Cirque De Solei style) Native American Indian tribes and Mayan dancers will perform and will also have a hand in the decor of the space. The performances will divided into 4 yearly programs which change with the Soulstice's and Equinox's The club itself will convert to the club ONLY on Saturday night by removing all the seating for the Theater show (which will end at about 10.30pm). There will be several bars on the main floor and the club HAS a 6am liquor license which surpasses all other NYC clubs. The Mezzanine level will be for overlooking the main room and house the bar/balcony VIP lounge. The First floor (MIND& SOUL) (second floor in US) will be the Hollistic treatment areas, Juice bar,Bar, Restaurant,Service bar and performance platform. The Hollistic center will include: Aroma Therapy area Chakra balancing area Reiki healing area Henna Tatoos area Meta-physical treatment area Aura Photograph Interpretation area Tarot card reading area The clubs total capacity will be 2500-3000 Saturday Night will be the only club night and the space is being divided up in removale walls that on Saturday's will be removed in order to bring the whole space together as one. The remaining floors will at a later stage be turned into a Mercer style Boutique hotel and there is also plans for a roof garden which has views of the entire city and river. The opening date is Saturday June 21st Summer Solstice
  13. The Body & Soul party ended last July. The B&S promoter now does Sunday Sessions at Show nightclub which is very similar to B&S in vibe and music. Arc's Sunday party is Deep House music by Matthias Heilbronn and Tedd Patterson. Crowd is a bit younger there though. choices, choices..

  15. Well my little sweetie, Club closed on January 1st and re-opened Februay 6th By my calculations that's 5.1 weeks, or maybe your math is also a problem. As for construction parties, I was there each day and unless I missed it there were no parties. If you just want to stir up bullshit go right ahead but your giving me all the attention I need. Better still why not be more productive and get yourself and education. Still a FOOL!
  16. Actually the club was closed for 6 weeks and went through change of ownership and complete renovation. But thanks for your nicely spelt reply.(sad when you can't even spell a curse word right!!!!!) Fool!
  17. Although it was a private opening affair and it was snowing hard, the places was jammed last night with a big crowd outside. Took me 20 minutes just to get in and I had an invite. Although for me the music downstairs was not that good (Samantha Ronson) the 80's music upstairs was tight. Place was completely packed and quite hard to move around even though the space is big. Knife throwers, Indian dancers, trapeze artists made for some amazing visuals in a club that is certainly very unique. My pick of the weekend program here will be Sunday Sessions (The only party that wil have true House music) which opens on Sunday Feb 16th (Presidents Day Weekend at 6pm) That night will also be a Dominican/Hatian Mardi Gras Masquerade party. So check out this new club in the space formally known as Saci. You wont be able to tell it was the same place. Totally different.
  18. SHOW the club formally know as SACI Opens this weekend. Club is beautiful and is much more plush than the old space. No more iron staircases and bright colors. It's all drapes, deep reds, new sound system, swings above the dancefloor, dancepoles on the bar and a full on Cabaret" stage, very Chicago! Really worth checking out though.
  19. SHOW NIGHTCLUB located at 135 West 41st Street between 6th Ave and Broadway Right behind Bryant Park and one block from Time Square subway
  20. Here is one event that will be at SHOW every Sunday from 6pm till 2am. SUNDAY SESSIONS Opens Sunday February 16th Presidents Day Weekend The same promoter that did Body & Soul is doing this event. 2 rooms of House, R&B and Hip-Hop. Sundays from 6pm till 2am. Reduced entry before 8pm The space is beautiful and very lush!!! Opens this Thursday night by the now infamous LIZZIE GRUBMAN (watch where you park!!)
  21. I hear that the Sunday Sessions Party from Powder will be moving here on Feb 16th. John Davis (Body & SOUL creator) is throwing this event which was only 3 weeks old when Powder closed down. This is going to be an amazing place for Sunday nights. The place is getting the Moulin Rouge treatment from what I hear Cant wait
