  2. BBC The mandate of most parliament members in Haiti runs out on Monday - meaning that President Jean-Bertrand Aristide will have to rule by decree. This comes after the largest demonstrations yet against the government on Sunday in the capital Port-au-Prince. A supporter of Mr Aristide was killed in a separate protest. The escalating violence came as the president prepared to leaves for the summit of the Americas in Mexico. "George Bush and Colin Powell you have gone to Iraq now you must come to Haiti - Aristide is like Saddam Hussein," said one of the 10,000 demonstrators who crowded through the streets of the Haitian capital on Sunday. The march came as President Aristide starts ruling the country by decree. There should have been parliamentary elections last year but they were never held. As a result the mandate of most members of parliament has run out. There is now no functioning legislature. President Aristide blames this on opposition leaders refusing to negotiate. However opposition figures hold this up as evidence that President Aristide is a de facto dictator. More protests are planned for Monday. With the opposition gaining in confidence it seems that the instability will continue until President Aristide leaves office.

  10. Maybe not the most popular answer on here, but I don't think its right this whole fingerprinting and picture issue. I could see how it helps people feel a bit more secure and in that sense its a great move, but it also makes tourists and other visitors to the united states feel unwelcomed. The move does nothing to help international relations with the rest of the world and thats why I think brazil has decided to fingerprint the us citizens.
  11. If you ain't out this weekend then head to the movies and catch 21 grams. Just came from that movie and if u like movies that are a bit strange kinda like requiem for a dream then check this out. Penn, del toro, and watts all deserve nominations for this.
  12. Port-au-Prince, Jan 7 (EFE).- Three people were killed and 23 were injured on Wednesday in clashes between Haitian government supporters, opponents and police during protests against President Jean-Bertrand Aristide. Local media reported the name of one of the casualties as Maxime Desulmond, who was killed on John Brown Ave., in downtown Port-au Prince, by a bullet apparently fired by members of Aristide’s Lavalas Family Party. Another unidentified victim was killed in a shootout with police in Delmas, in the northeastern part of the capital, local media added. Also, a young man was found dead on Christophe Ave., in the city’s downtown area, a reporter said. The press indicated that the unidentified victims might have been supporters of the Lavalas Family regime killed in clashes with police. Shooting began as soon as the opposition march began Wednesday in Petionville, located 15 kilometers (9 miles) east of the capital. Government opponents and supporters also hurled stones at each other along the marchers’ route. Several policemen stood in front of the marchers to quell the Aristide partisans, who repeatedly tried to prevent the march from proceeding. Police fired warning shots into the air to keep the government partisans from attacking demonstrators. Hundreds of students joined the march - which was called by the opposition last Monday to press for Aristide’s resignation - as it passed by the state university in southeastern Port-au-Prince. Aristide sympathizers built barricades out of burning tires and placed vehicles in the way of opposition marchers, as they chanted : "If Aristide goes, heads will roll and houses will burn." Eyewitnesses said that regime supporters were backed by presidential guards, while police kept an eye on opposition marchers. At one point during the march - because of the clashes with Aristide’s supporters - opposition Group 184 leader Andy Aped urged marchers to go home to avert more killings. Regime supporters riding in government vehicles continued to harass marchers and also to fire their weapons at several radio stations, but no other deaths or injuries were reported. 13. To anybody that was interested in this thread I'l bump it up with a quick update with pics when I get back to the states this weekend, but it has been a crazy end to 2003 and an even crazier start to 2004. Although 2day Jan. 1st was the 200th annivesary of haiti's independence that was overshadowed by many different events that continued to show that aristide must go.
  14. Being haitian I can understand why many would be upset about the way haitians are portrayed in the game, but a lawsuit against rockstar entertainment is Different people and races are misportrayed many times in the entertainment industry and this is not much worse then many movies I have seen that portrays russians as terrorists, italians as mobsters, french as assholes. I think anybody that plays these games or watches these movies know that not all italians are in the mob, not every russian is an evil terrorist, not every french person is an asshole, and certainly not all haitians are drug dealers and should be killed. Besides Haitians have much bigger problems right now then getting upset at a videogame company and if the people behind this lawsuit really wanted to show to people that they care about their people then they would spend more time getting active in the crisis going on in haiti instead of finding videogame companies to sue.
  15. happy b-day and a happy new year
  16. If u gonna get a pda and willin to spend some cash then only one choice. Get the new sony clie http://reviews.cnet.com/4505-3127_7-30460776.html?tag=search I got it as a gift this christmas and the thing is more of a minilabtop then a pda. 21. Another news article, this from thursday. Though its reported they found those weapons at the radio station, it is most likely bs as they are doing as they please. Dec. 18th, Haiti’s environment minister resigned Thursday in the third defection from the Cabinet of President Jean-Bertrand Aristide as a series of protests have unleashed increasing violence. Environment Minister Webster Pierre said in a letter read on independent Radio Metropole that he was stepping down "to regain my freedom of speech." He also said he hopes "to reveal the mechanism of a system that entraps politicians and to propose a solution to the crisis." Meanwhile, his sister Mimerose Beaubrun called radio stations saying a group of gunmen occupied the yard of her house. Beaubrun’s family said she and her husband Theodore, who are well-known musicians, were warned by neighbors as they approached the house and then fled. The Beaubruns are lead singers of the Haitian roots music group Boukman Eksperyans, which has been critical of Aristide’s government. Theodore Beaubrun has joined protests demanding Aristide’s ouster and said he went into hiding after receiving threats this week. "The situation is extremely serious," he told Radio Metropole. "There is no government. It’s anarchy. Street thugs rule." Tensions between supporters and opponents of Aristide are on the rise in Haiti, with at least 22 killed and scores wounded during protests since mid-September. Several prominent officials have resigned this month amid the violence, including the ministers of education and tourism. Pierre’s resignation came after witnesses said police stormed a pro-opposition radio station, Radio Maxima, in northern Cap-Haitien on Wednesday, smashing equipment and shutting down the station in what they said was a search for weapons. State-run television showed three guns, grenades and camouflage fatigues that police said they found on the roof of Radio Maxima. Eleven people were reportedly arrested, including station employees and others. Police had a search warrant to enter Radio Maxima, which has encouraged people to join street protests against Aristide’s government. Police also shot and killed a teenage boy Wednesday during clashes with anti-government protesters in the northern town of Trou du Nord, witnesses said. Demonstrators in Trou du Nord went on to torch several government buildings, including the telephone company and city hall, according to radio reports. The government accuses protesters of trying to spoil state-sponsored celebrations Jan. 1 on the 200th anniversary of Haiti’s independence from France.
  22. And to oscar if u truly gone from cp, then good luck in your future productions and your djing career. You and ralph's music have played a very important role in making house music what it is today and I look forward to all future releases from you guys. Dark beat was the song of 2002 for many.
  23. I may not be an old timer to the board being on here for only about a year, but I gotta say the board I knew back then is much different then the board today. Seems like the board these days is just a place for people to bitch and bitch and bitch. When I first started here, I just looked around the site for a bit and never posted but enjoyed reading most of the threads here. You had saleen official reviews, lolahotass posting nonstop and giving reviews as well, dgrutman promoting some kickass parties at tantra, biz posting for space, and well tons of others discussing their nights out and which djs were coming to play miami soon and things such as that. Occasionaly there were a couple of funny threads having nothing to do with clubland and funketeer's funny but what the hell is he talking about threads. I finally started posting after I went to tantra and had a good time their and posted about it cause I knew dgrutman posted here and wanted to say thanks that the place is great. Later I met a few people through the board and was happy to see many of my favorite djs posting on here as well (demi, oscar g, stryke) These days though seems like the board is just nonstop trash talking and pointless threads with the occasional gossip thread by saleen and a few party promotions. All the reviews get threadjacked into something that probably ends up on the drama board. Whatever, I complain about it because I know how useful this board can be and if people don't stop with all the bitching and pointless threads, the whole point of this board will have changed to being just another chatroom with little use and few visitors. To the people who have been posting on here for a long time, the djs,the promoters, the people that actually write positive threads keep doing that and just ignore the people who have nothing to really contribute to the board. My ignore list on this board is actually at like a good 5 or 6 people right now including philippio and jonnyquest. Jonny cause all he does is post smileys, philippio cause ever since he came here its mostly trash reviews of edgar v or oscar g or space, I'd rather read something by somebody with something positive to say then the garbage posted by others.
