  1. By Gary Krakow Columnist MSNBC Updated: 6:50 p.m. ET Feb. 10, 2005 IPods may be cool, but designed for skiing or other sports, they're not. As sunglass manufacturer Oakley says in its marketing material: If your eyes are on your head, why should your music system hang on your waist? Good question. Oakley's answer is a hot-looking pair of sport sunglasses with an MP3 player built right into the frames. They call it THUMP. There are two THUMPs. The 128 MB version costs $395. The 256MB version, which comes with polarized lenses, costs $495. The glasses themselves come in seven frame/lens color combinations including a special Red Camo/Black Polarized which sells for $545. 2. Update OWNER HAS VANISHED: Police want to question the club's owner, who vanished during the inferno. The concert crowd was nearly three times the venue's capacity of 1,500 people, Argentine media reported. BAND MEMBERS APPEALED TO FANS: Survivors said band members appealed to fans at one point during the show to refrain from lighting fireworks. DEAD/INJURIES/CRITICAL CONDITION: 175 are dead. At least 714 people were injured, officials said. At least 102 were in critical condition, said Julio Salinas, an official with the Buenos Aires emergency services department. EYE WITNESS ACCOUNTS: "Someone from the crowd tossed a flare and there were immediately flames," said 22-year-old Fabian Zamudeo. "Parts of the roof started falling down in flames and people started running, knocking over the speakers and light stands. People were choking on smoke and I tried to push as many people out as I could." Witnesses described chaotic scenes of people rushing for the doors, their vision blurred by thick smoke that blocked out emergency lighting. A 22-year-old who gave his name only as Andres said surging crowds pushed their way toward the club's six exits but found some of them would not open."Once the fire erupted, everyone ran for the doors, but there was only one very narrow one open at the exit closest to us. Another wider door next to it was locked," he said. ALL NIGHTCLUBS ORDERED TO CLOSE DURING NEW YEARS: The city government declared three days of mourning and ordered all nightclubs closed during the New Year's holiday weekend. Pope John Paul II expressed his condolences to victims' families in a message sent to Argentine church officials. Source: Associated Press

  11. Publix sushi. It really doesn't get any better than 12 rolls for about $6.00. Best all you can eat sushi i've found so far has been Miyako somewhere near 170th and collins (behind burger king). It has a wider selection than Tokyo Bowl and costs about the same.

  16. File sharing doesn't hurt most artists Survey: Internet helps make more money from their work Reuters: Dec. 6, 2004 Source: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/6659072/ WASHINGTON - Most musicians and artists say the Internet has helped them make more money from their work despite online file-trading services that allow users to copy songs and other material for free, according to a study released Sunday. Recording labels and movie studios have hired phalanxes of lawyers to pursue "peer to peer" networks like Kazaa, and have sued thousands of individuals who distribute copyrighted material through such networks. But most of the artists surveyed by the nonprofit Pew Internet and American Life Project said online file sharing did not concern them much. Artists were split on the merits of peer-to-peer networks, with 47 percent saying that they prevent artists from earning royalties for their work and another 43 percent saying they helped promote and distribute their material. But two-thirds of those surveyed said file sharing posed little threat to them, and less than one-third of those surveyed said file sharing was a major threat to creative industries. Only 3 percent said the Internet hurt their ability to protect their creative works."What we hear from a wide spectrum of artists is that, despite the real challenges of protecting work online, the Internet has opened new ways for them to exercise their imaginations and sell their creations," said report author Mary Madden, a research specialist at the Pew Internet and American Life Project. The nonprofit group based its report on a survey of 809 self-identified artists in December 2003. The survey has a margin of error of 4 percentage points. Full Pew Report
