  1. Obby,

I locked in the DJ lineup a few days ago. However, things do happen, so I'm encouraging anyone who wants to, to bring their music with them. Even if all the DJs show up, those who aren't technically playing are more than welcome to jump on if the existing crew is cool with it.

Obby and I can share set times if theres any ... we could go back and forth every few tracks and make things more interesting ... 8)

  2. convince clubowners to update all sound systems so we can play 24-bit 96khz quality audio

They don't have to update entire sound systems, just the decks in the booth. Pioneer's newish entry-level CD/DVD deck, the DVJ-1000, already supports MPEG-1 up to 320 Kbps and MPEG-2 up to 160 Kbps.

    those dvj's over regular rca's will provide 24-bit 96khz quality audio ?

for that we will need to begin producing or downloading music in such quality ... is like playing 480p content on a 1080p capable display ... whats the difference if the source is 480p ... you know what i mean John ?

like Pod said, we will need to be in a perfect world first

  3. your best bet is to connect your turntable to your computer thru a mixer .. since it needs a ground connection ... you can do it directly some turntables (some have digital outputs) .. any other way is not recommended

once thats done .. use something like Sony Sound Forge to monitor your levels and then record .. try it out several times until you get an overall good volume for your input

if you have the space ... save all files in .wav format or FLAC lossless to preserve the original quality at its best

i still have a working turntable and mixer laying around i can use. So save them as .WAV's and encode to .MP3's afterwards?

save the recordings as .wavs and keep them on a external hard drive as a backup (or somewhere safe for that matter in case you need those files) .. then convert those to 320 mp3s or mp4s and use them on your mp3 player if thats what you are intending to do ..

  4. Here's some advice from someone who knows a thing or two about sound quality:

Go 24-bit 96 kHz and play those files from a hard drive or from a DVD. I know, I know.... actually, I would recommend DSD, but only the rock engineers have access to those kinds of budgets. Mind you, there's a stunning TASCAM DVD recorder that records DSD in native format. At $1299 street price, with varispeed, it is giving heart attacks to those who just spent $15,000 on a high-definition 2-channel master audio recording system.

But CD quality is just such a total farce on large sound systems, actually 16-bit / 44.1 kHz in general. DJ's that play CD's in big clubs just sound BAD, TINNY, (not tiny) EDGY, FLAT, compared to someone with vinyl; no woof, no bottom warmth, high end that shrills your ears.

    Is anyone listening out there?

So this is my suggestion: invest in your future. Unless you look forward to having to re-do it all in a couple of years. Of course, if this is just a hobby, I take it all back. Just burn it directly into your iPod and you'll be fine.

wow .. tell that to every major dj and producer out there ... and also convince clubowners to update all sound systems so we can play 24-bit 96khz quality audio ..

what ..next time i step into a club im supossed to hear 7,1 channels of audio too ? c'mon .... ::)
