With more heads hearing of his skills and tracks like the massive 'Robocop' and 'Electrolux' smashing dance-floors worldwide 2003 saw Friction win Knowledge magazines 'Best Breakthrough' award. Things were rounded off with a link up to Dillinja and Lemon D's Valve Recordings and the launch of his own label 'Shogun Audio'. He is now regarded as one of the scenes front running DJ's alongside names like Andy C, Zinc, Hype and Mampi Swift and also regularly demonstrates his skills to a global audience via BBC 1Xtra on his fortnightly 'Mix Show'. Two funk filled tracks appeared on the Earth 4 compilation in the shape of "Extensions of Life" and "Peace of Mind", with "You're Divine" appearing on Earth 5 and getting an exclusive release in Japan. On the Drum'n'Bass front the Progression Sessions series continues to feature many of his tracks. Shelley aka Deeizm is a talented up and coming vocalist whose talent extends much further than simply vocalisation. Having taken the world by storm with the Billion $ Gravy LP in 2003 and shown the world how to tackle drum and bass 100% live, London Elektricity continue to raise the game. Tony has been working on the new album now for about a year. And we're talking proper work! Late night song-writing sessions with Liane and MC Wrec, in the studio with the Jungle Drummer and Andy Waterworth as well as employing Landslide's technical skills to get the sonics just right on those tricky piano parts. All the late nights are starting to pay off as the new album "POWER BALLADS" is really taking shape. The beats and bass are sounding tight for the dancefloor and there are some next level songs and lyrics on offer. Something for everyone. The LE saga began way back in '96, and up until 2002 LE was a double-act. Signed on the strength of his mini-disc demos, the Welsh wonder has smashed his way through the d+b scene in no time at all. His debut longplayer "True Colours" was released on Hospital to massive critical acclaim in June 2002, paving the way for a move onto the outernational dj circuit and remixer of choice for so many labels inside and outside of the drum+bass community. It was the club sessions and mixing skills that dominated the year since the True Colours – with Lincoln making a name for himself as one of the hottest D&B djs around. In autumn 2004 we dropped the massive HIGH SOCIETY LP; Featuring the anthemic singles “Twilights Last Gleaming†and “Racing Greenâ€. NU:TONE [ Hospital | Brand Nu ] - UK **DEBUT USA TOUR** Born in 1976, Dan Gresham aka Nu:Tone, started piano aged 8 and joined Jesus College choir in Cambridge a year later. He studied music at Durham University, and having secured a college radio show met a young John B. They shared broadcasts, established local clubnight 'Substance', and Dan went on to engineering studio sessions for John. All these good vibes led to a debut vinyl release with John's Beta imprint in 2001: ('Grand Central' / 'The Boss'). Since signing to Hospital in 2003 Nu:Tone has come through the ranks to become one of the most highly re spected producers in the scene, with everyone from LTJ Bukem to Dillinja busting his tunes. Nu:Tone's remixes are always guaranteed to please whether it's the retro soul of his Spreadlove anthem or the junglist wobble of his Strictly Social Re-rub. 2005 is set to be a big year for Nu:Tone. His debut album 'BRAVE NU WORLD' is ready to drop in march, set to follow the paths of London Elektricity and High Contrast flying the flag for Hospital worldwide. DJ LEE [ Metalheadz | Atlas ] - UK **5:DNB DEBUT** Lee's involvement and history in the UK's underground dance scene dates way back to the late 80's. Starting off as a resident at the legendary "Brunnel Rooms" in Swindon to 94' playing alongside DJ's such as Doc Scott, Fabio, Grooverider and LTJ Bukem on the groundbreaking night "Speed" at Soho's Mars club. As well as playing all over the world Lee was also involved in the Timeless imprint, which has over the years released some of the finest drum n bass tracks to date by artists like Total Science, Digital & Spirit, Cause 4 Concern to name a few. So for those that don't know Lee as well as being an excellent DJ renowned for playing cutting edge drum n bass, he is famed for being continually upfront with his selection of dubs making him one of the most exciting DJs on the circuit. BREAKAGE [ Bassbin | Inperspective ] - UK **DEBUT USA TOUR** Bursting onto the scene in 2001 with an explosive, unofficial remix of Doc Scott's classic Here Come The Drums, which tore up many a dancefloor, including the legendary Metalheadz Sunday Sessionz. His ability to turn his hand to any style he fancies is perhaps James' strongest point. From the dubby stylings of So Vain and Out of Reach, through the liquid leanings of his collaborations with Metalheadz resident DJ Flight as Alias, and onto the pure breakbeat science he unleashes on Inperspective, James excels at whatever he turns his hand to. As with the other Inperspective artists, though, James' personal favourites are signed to the I. In addition to his collaborations with DJ Flight, James plans to work with Equinox in the near future, and would love to work with other artists such as Tangerine Dream and James Lavelle. Wednesday | May.11.2000FIVE M3 and Upfront Industries present: Rinse Magazine, District Soul and DCDNB sponsored event D-BRIDGE [ Exit | BC Recordings ] - UK **DEBUT SOLO TOUR** D-Bridge AKA Darren White's first introduction into the music scene was in 1992, when he formed 'Sewage Monsters' with his older brother (signed to MCA and Island Records as 'Steve Spacek'). It was during this period that Daniel Stein AKA Fresh was beginning his apprenticeship in the camp, and similar ideas were leading to collaborations with the pair, the first and last of which to be released on Hardware was The Code and Fugitive before differences with management led all three leaving Hardware for new beginnings. It was here that Fresh introduced Darren and Jason to Michael Wojcicki AKA Vegas and Bad Company UK began in earnest. 2003 has seen many major changes within BC camp and more notably in D-Bridge's musical direction. Whilst the most recent album Shot Down on Safari was in production Darren was also busy at work co-producing Spacek's second album 'Vintage High-tech' on high-profile label !K7. D-Bridge's contribution to this album spawned a new direction for him and led to the founding, alongside his brother and Spacek co-member Morgan Zarate of The Istickz, a self-described 'futuristic/simplistic' soul group consisting of 5 Producers, 3 DJs, 2 Vocalists and several MPC2000's and laptops. The latest venture in D-Bridge's (now somewhat eclectic) career is the fruition of a lifetime goal in the form of drum & bass label Exit Records. Exit came about as a result of Darren’s desire to be able to express his own individual qualities as a producer, rather than being a contributor to a greater whole. Embarking on a solo effort seems like a natural progression for Darren, who through the success of Bad Company UK, Spacek and more recently with Istickz has managed to create a diverse and inspirational release catalogue of enviable proportions. With a history as varied and colourful as this, who knows what to expect next from D-Bridge? VERSE [ Crunch | Renegade Hardware ] - UK **DEBUT USA TOUR** Verse joins a select crop of owners, an MC with a label as he works towards the first Crunch release. In between touring and travelling, Verse has found sufficient studio time to write alongside DKay, BCUK, Keaton, Bad Company and join the Fifth Element crew deep with Loxy & Ink. Postponed due to distribution issues that collective are far from buried we’re assured. Verse releases have rounded out across Renegade Hardware and Outbreak; he duly returns to productions for his personal ends, Crunch Recs. The format for Crunch is to be rigid; one side collaborative effort, one side solo chunky, musical Verse beats. 'Off The Rails / Azure' drops late in January and work is already underway to finalise Keaton's appearance, 'White Crow b/w Journeys Through Haze' ['Sort of a weed tune'] for end of February and a D-Bridge performance, 'Burning Edge' to follow that. RANSOM [ Threshold | DCDNB.org ] One of the strongest names in the Washington, DC drum'n'bass scene, Ransom has been involved locally since the mid-90s, playing the DC/Baltimore club/rave circuit since the spring of 1998. If you haven’t heard Ransom’s skills on the decks yet, it’s time, the career he has forthcoming won’t be anything less than huge. His drum and bass is a force that is proving unstoppable. GODFATHER SAGE [ Mind Control | EXBC ] Godfather Sage is a multi-faceted DJ/producer based in the Balt/Wash area of the US. Upon forming a drum & bass collective called The Mind Control Crew in 2001 with AB Logic, Sickboy, Axiom and Born Infinite, Godfather Sage went on to make a name for himself as one of the DJ's at the forefront of the local drum & bass scene. His mixing style is aggressive and engaging, taking the listener through a variety of sounds and influences while maintaining a strong sense of soul and depth throughout.
