HIVE [ Violence | Metalheadz ] - SF Since the inception of the label, Hive’s musical output has grown ever more assertive and daring, personified most clearly by “Neo,†one of 2003’s great anthems. “Neo†has reached into virtually every corner of drum and bass, from dedicated ravers to disaffected breaks aficionados, binding fans of different stripes together in common cause. Hive has also been spending more time in the studio with collaborators, including Keaton of The Usual Suspects. The two of them were responsible “The Plague,†another massive anthem of 2003, released on Hardware. 2004 saw the release of their even more broadly appealing follow-up “Bring it On,†for Violence. Tough, propulsive, forged out of both the traditional sampled aesthetic and leading sound designs of contemporary drum and bass, the sound of Hive today bears the imprint of an artist searching for new ways to reinterpret the music by his own lights. Neither a retrospective purist, nor a follower of fashion, Hive’s music, his DJing, and his label strike a steely, inspiring balance, hewing closely to a tight creative vision that has propelled him into the forefront of drum and bass wherever it thrives. NOISIA [ Renegade Hardware | Subtitles ] - NL Noisia (the word VISION rotated 180 degrees) consists of three guys; Nik Roos, Martijn van Sonderen and Thijs de Vlieger from Groningen. Right now Noisia have got releases out and forthcoming on well-known labels such as Teebee's Subtitles and Rob Playford's Moving Shadow (who have also licensed two noisia tunes to Rockstar's Midnight Club 3), and they've collaborated with well-known dnb artists Cause 4 Concern, Calyx, Teebee, Black Sun Empire and Bad Company UK. Also, Renegade Hardware are releasing a Noisia remix of the well known "Messiah" by the infamous duo Konflict on the Renegade Hardware Guerilla warfare LP. CANNON BOYZ [ Recon | Sinuous ] - BMORE Cannon Boys have been a staple in Baltimore's Drum and Bass Scene, since the inception of their affiliation the Us Crew, in 2000. In 2005 they began Recon Recordings, Baltimore's first International DNB label. In 2006 they were signed to presitigous labels such as Sinuous, Flatline, Combat, Corintihian, and Darkland Recordings. His ability to turn his hand to any style he fancies is perhaps James' strongest point. From the dubby stylings of So Vain and Out of Reach, through the liquid leanings of his collaborations with Metalheadz resident DJ Flight as Alias, and onto the pure breakbeat science he unleashes on Inperspective, James excels at whatever he turns his hand to. As with the other Inperspective artists, though, James' personal favourites are signed to the I. In addition to his collaborations with DJ Flight, James plans to work with Equinox in the near future, and would love to work with other artists such as Tangerine Dream and James Lavelle. EVOL INTENT [ Renegade Hardware | Human ] - ATL **5DNB DEBUT** Over the last few years, Evol Intent has emerged as one of the leading forces in the United States Drum and Bass movement. Both as a label and as a production trio, Evol Intent are considered some of the biggest up and coming talents in the entire dnb industry. Hailing from Atlanta, Georgia the crew consists of Knick, Gigantor and The Enemy. Apart from being a production outfit, Evol Intent also owns and operates their own label, which functions as an outlet for their own work as well as like-minded artists. Evol Intent has officially gone worldwide and will prove to be one of the hardest working outfits in drum & bass with non-stop DJ international tour dates, a heavy release schedule of originals and remixes for some of the top labels and artists in the scene, and even their own clothing online shop (opening soon!). The trio also has plans to launch a full on LIVE show in the next year. INSULIN [ Type 1 Recordings ] - DC Founded in 2001 by Insulin, Type 1 Recordings was originally designed to be a small digital label and promotion company. Wednesday | December.13.2006 M3 and Upfront Industries LLC present: Rinse Magazine and District Soul sponsored event THE WINTER SESSIONS MAMPI SWIFT [ Charge Recordings ] - UK **5DNB DEBUT** The prolific "Mampi Swift" aka Phil Anim, formally known as Swift. The addition of "Mampi" to his name not being coincidental; the term meaning "big, strong and quick" depicts everything about him from his pure physique to his amazing "double-dropping" DJing skills. We are going to see a lot happening with Mampi Swift and Charge Recordings this year. He has spent the last 12 months working on his new album - to be released end of April - and if this album doesn't set a precedent - nothing will!!! Working heavily with Blame and 720 Recordings - this duo will certainly be suprising a lot of people over the next few months. With the current EP "Rainman" flying off the shelves and all his classic tunes regularly being played out around the world there is no stopping this guy. Being careful to not over expose his new tunes - they are rarely released prior to promo's - this guy is a very clever business man. He relentlessly still plays with dubplates/vinyl and refuses to use CD's when playing gigs - he is wisely attempting to keep the record industry alive for future generations.
