  1. Please take another shot of your painting in a different setting. That bed is just too distracting - it looks so comfy and inviting and makes me wonder who could be in it... the girl you painted hopefully
  2. Lola, I think that to be perfectly fair, Dave should apologize to you. If he edits posts here, then you shouldn't be the only moderator listed for this forum. So immature of him to hide behind a girl's behind... regardless of how hot the aforementioned behind is Having said that, I understand how deeply hurt you must feel by my wrongful accusation. If you were in New York, I would immediately rush over, in person, to make you feel better (in every imaginable way ). Unfortunately mid-afternoon traffic in Manhattan makes it impossible to get to JFK and catch a flight to MIA in time before you sink into depression over this teeny-tiny misunderstanding. Therefore the best I can do is hope that you cyber-accept the below as a token of sincere admiration and best wishes:
  3. Amanda, I am also curious: why did you decide to have a baby at 21? My friends who've had children tell me that life pretty much ends. What they mean is that a child takes most of your time and most of your money. In my native Russia young people had children because there was nothing else to do. But in the US when you're unattached there is so much you can do like study for advanced degrees, make bold career moves, travel, buy luxuries for yourself, meet different interesting people and have sex with them, enjoy your hobbies (like clubbing)... Why would you give that all up so young?
  4. Lola, as much as I appreciate the great size of your... I meant, the great job you're doing as a moderator, you overmoderated here. I agree with you that a newbie would've probably been offended by what His-Member-Has-No-Name wrote, but at the same time newbies usually fall for his requests to post pictures. Therefore because of what you did CP Doggs, myself included, were denied our rightful viewing pleasures. Do make it up for us and post more of your delicious bra shots. Preferrably without a bra
  5. Henrik, your chances of becoming a New York house music legend have nothing at all to do with your skills. Look at our Pacha club: whenever local DJs are spinning, they are either playing to a completely empty floor or a club half-full of drugged up Asians who don't speak English. Even though the music's always very good. If you really want to make it here, you need to address the biggest problem house music in NYC faces today: that there are very few girls at house parties. If you can manage to pack a club full of hot girls - you'll be famous. That's how JP and Boris made it So I suggest you lease one of those new super-jumbo 380 series Airbuses, pack it full of Dutch women (make sure everyone is tall, slim, blonde, 34C or bigger with cute butts) and fly right over. And I hope they give you residency @ Spirit, 'cuz it's a fucking shame that the best big room club with a kick ass sound system like they have goes to such a waste. Besides - that would show Made Events - there are never girls at their parties
  6. I don't care if a DJ plays one style or various styles as long as the mix flows nicely. Although to me it seems easier for DJs to create and maintain a really great vibe for many hours if they stick to one style. The best vibe that I've ever witnessed were at single-style parties: Boris @ Crobar and Armin @ Spirit. Although Boris plays almost entirely tribal - it's by no means a boring journey. Playing various styles is difficult, and your long-time favorite Tedd Patterson is the best example. The first time I heard him - he was amazing, but last Saturday he was so-so. On that note, if Teddy keeps deteriorating and Willie Graff continues his Electro experiments, they'd take Cielo down with them and that would suck!
  7. Which other NYC venues does Boris play at? His Show gigs are on Sundays, and for most people who work, going out on Sundays is too much. I heard Boris @ Sandbar, though; and I plan to hear him @ Emerald City in Phila. Although I think that most people DO know that they will be entertained by Boris, Crobar is the safest choice on a Saturday night in case nothing else special is happening. What else is there: Pacha might be empty, Cielo residents are turning Electro, who knows what happens everywhere else... Meanwhile at Crobar you are guaranteed good music and excellent vibe. I thought you were all for NYC DJs? You are definitely missing on the best one. And, even though you prefer the up- and coming-ones, please don't hold a man's success against him!
  8. One reason to go through the whole interview is to see what questions they ask, so that you can prepare answers to those in case you get asked them at a place you do want to work. But there's nothing wrong with politely thanking them and walking out either. Alternatively you can pretend that you got sick. It happened to one guy I was asked to interview... For the first 10 minutes he passionately went off about how much he hated his job and how he hated everyone he worked with. After that I told him that I was going to ask him a few technical questions. He looked at me in horror and warned that he gets very nervous on interviews. Since I had to do what my boss asked me to do - I proceeded at my own risk. As soon as I asked the first question, the guy turned very pale, half-closed his eyes and started to slide off the chair. So he sits across from me shaking and then starts telling me that he had food poisoning yesterday from Burger King. Then I told him to go home, and he started pleading how he didn't want to lose this opportunity. After he tried to drop on his knees and cry, I promised him that we'll reschedule, and he walked out grabbing on to walls and breathing heavily.
  9. Whaw, man, look at those: Well, now, since you put it... I mean "them", this way, Max will be more than a personal tour guide! Here, Lola, will you...?
  10. I only look at DJs sites to check out the music, so I can't say much about features and design. But as far as the music goes: 1. I stand by my opinion that the track selection on the "Twisted Tribal" set is perfect. However the EQ doesn't sound quite right, I think there's not enough highs. When I listened to it in my car, it felt like my ears were clogged. 2. The "Bleeker/Third" mix is very good - lots of energy and excellent track selection too. 3. The Electro mix... OK, so I managed not to throw up; but that's not pure Electro, that's Electro house with as little Electro as it was possible. Actually my Electro house tolerance increased: I almost enjoyed what Willie Graff played @ Cielo on May 19th. 4. "Dancing in the Darkness" must go - it's way too old and very annoying. Have something else play at start-up and make sure it's not "Dibiza". First track from the "Twisted Tribal" set might do nicely. Good job overall, keep it up!
  11. Well, Gabe, I think you made your point - this Keith Blackstone set is pretty far from deephouse. But to me this set sounded very monotonous, some tracks were very old (especially the one that was on Webster Hall CD 1) and way too much Dibiza. The quality sucked too: even though I understand this was a live set, it's as if it was recorded by someone who held a mic close to a speaker.
  12. Frosty, I disagree: development doesn't have to blow, it can be enjoyable. Whether you'd enjoy Project Management depends on the power structure in your organization and the perception of what delivers real value: hands-on IT or professional management. Sticking to the original question though: NYU School of Continuing Education used to put up loads of ads in the subway about how they have more classes than you can handle on more subjects than you can imagine. I looked at their website at http://scps.nyu.edu/departments/course_listing.jsp?deptId=16 , and they do have a huge selection of classes, including php programming and ASP.net (which, personally, I think is the future). I don't know how much better would it be than just reading books on those subjects, but I suppose at least you can meet people who share your interests at a brand name institution.
  13. After hearing David Morales there on Saturday, I voted for Crobar. I agree with everyone who said that Pacha is a nicer space with a much better sound system. I also really hate that you can barely dance in the main room @ Crobar because there are idiots walking pointlessly across the dance floor all the time pushing people aside, and those include bouncers too. However it feels like all good things about Pacha go to waste because it is often empty or full of ugly crowd. I think that if Pacha books DJs who can bring in numbers, then we'll see the same diverse crowd there as @ Crobar, and then Pacha would easily beat Crobar in every respect. Until then - Crobar wins.
  14. So in order to prove that you don't lose money renting because of current real estate market conditions in metro NYC, I did a much simplified comparison of rent vs. buy of my friend's 1-bedroom co-op in North Jersey. This is the mortgage calculator I used: http://www.hsh.com/calc-amort.html and this is the tax calculator I used: http://www.moneychimp.com/features/tax_brackets.htm Assume that I make $100,000 a year, and I am looking for a place to live in the next 5 years. I can either buy that co-op for $250,000, which has a $1000 monthly maintenance or lease it for $1450 a month. If I decide to buy the place, then I'd put 20% down (otherwise co-op wouldn't qualify me) and get a 30-year 6.25% mortgage for the remaining $200,000. This results in a monthly payment of $1231.43. With maintenance my monthly housing expense is $2231.43. Since renting saves me $781.43 a month, I am going to save that into a tax-free fund that returns 5%. At the end of 5 years I am going to end up with $53,367.60 (see attached spreadsheet). What happens if I buy: -- I pay $10,000 closing costs right away -- Let property taxes be 1/2 the maintenance charge, then I'd spend $30,000 for maintenance -- Let property prices increase 5% a year, then at the end of year 5 my co-op would cost $319,070.40 -- I'd pay 3% to the real estate agent for selling it, so my cash on hand is $309,498.30 -- The balance of my mortgage would be $186,674.48, so I am left with $122,823.80 -- Deduct closing, maintenance and downpayment, turns out I made $30,823.80 What about deducting morgage interest payments and real estate taxes? I calculated tax benefits using the same spreadsheet (see attached). I assumed that I invest my tax refunds tax-free at 5%, then I'll end up with $28,051.02. So if I rent my friend's apartment in 5 years I'll have $53,367.60. If I buy it, I'll have $58,874.82. Buying outperforms renting by about $5,500 over 5 years. Does that justify the enormous headache of owning and selling property?
  15. Disclaimer. This was the first time hearing JP for me. For some reason everyone I met was very surprised by this, so I am stating it up front. The club. Considering that it was inside a casino, I didn't expect the club to be so large. The main floor was about as big as the main floor @ Pacha, with no seating room at all. The sound system was good, but far from Pacha or Spirit quality; in some areas I couldn't feel much bass, and in other areas the echo was outrageous. Dancers were top-of-the-line: next to them regular Pacha dancers would be really ugly. The VIP. Bottle service was in the mezannine; larger groups got tables, smaller groups got banquets with really comfy couches. What sucked was that the only speakers in the mezannine were small ones installed into the ceiling, so you couldn't enjoy the concert from there. The waitress. She was the most remarkable thing about the VIP. Her name was, believe it or not, BJ, and she was a tall slim blonde. She wore an incredibly short dress that barely covered the Brazilian cut black panties and her legs could rival my girl's, who was so impressed that she rummages around stores in search of a similar dress right now. The music. It was the best you could make of KTU Friday night dance crap. JP came on around midnight and he started off progressive Boris' style, including that "Electro moves you" track. Then he played remixes of "Like a Prayer", "Enjoy the Silence" and other late 80's hits. He played one remix of "Dibiza" and thankfully no Electro at all. The DJ. I couldn't say that JP can't mix two songs, 'cuz he can. I also thought that KTU crap was exactly what the AC crowd needed, and maybe he plays different stuff @ Pacha. But my girl thought JP didn't feel the music at all, she said the music didn't blend and the mix didn't flow. When JP exited "Enjoy the Silence", he took so long that she screamed: "Stop this shit already!" The crowd. The club was far from packed - there was plenty of room both on the main floor and in the VIP. Guidos were a huge minority - it felt like a regular AC crowd minus the retirees with mostly white public. Plenty of lonely guys bordered the main floor, clutching beer bottles and ogling too few good looking girls. What surprised me was that everyone, even guidos, were incredibly friendly. Wow - there was a lot of love in that air! The vibe. The vibe was great - everyone had fun; people who obviously weren't frequent clubbers looked like they had a time of their lives. So maybe that's where JP belongs now - playing for casino crowds along with other old-timers like "Earth Wind & Fire". Let's deliver the verdict after the beach party @ Surf Club on the 11th.
  16. What more can I say... Real estate bubble? Remind you of internet stock hysteria? Home equity loans = overcollateralization that results in foreclosures? Blown up prices thanks to interest-only mortgages? Neeehhh! Good luck to all of you, real estate tycoons; future Donald Trumps
  17. Relax, everyone, you're getting too emotional. The weather's nice, long weekend's coming, JP will be at the Mixx... Do relax! So: 1. Unless the real estate bubble bursts, every penny that you put into mortgage does come back to you. But what you paid for maintenance does not. Neither does mortgage interest. Neither do real estate taxes. I don't think anybody here wants to take out a fucking calculator and do the benefit analysis of tax deductions, do you? 2. When your monthly rent is $1000 less than your mortgage, interest, maintenance and real estate taxes, you can take that $1000 and invest it. How much do housing prices increase annually on average, 3%? On average S&P 500 gives you 8% a year. Even T-bills give you 4.5% right now, and the historical average is 6%. 3. When you're in the last year of your MBA programs, Law Schools, Medical Schools and PhD pursuits - try taking the Spring Break week and going to Cancun. And be sure to take lots of pictures
  18. Alright, Jimk, you got me: I actually went back and checked what I wrote there. I guess you need to brush up on your Reading Comprehension skills, it's been a while since you took your SATs, huh? Or are you saying you don't believe a girl can kick a man out of her house? You are such a Sheevanist! Even though renting saves $1000 a month, not $20 bucks a week, I'll take Oni's word that there are benefits to buying, since she is our CP Resident expert on this business. On that note, Oni - kiss!!! But we are not talking long term right now, are we? C'mon, boys: don't you think there will be great career opportunities for which you'd move? Or maybe enjoy your money now so that you're ready to settle down once you meet The Right Woman? I mean - Jenbabe is only 18, so we got at least 10 years to go before we tear each others' throats over her - let's rip it sick for a while!
  19. Actually having ANY balance on credit cards is not smart. Trying to convince someone that buying property just so that "you don't throw money out on rent" is not smart either. It's easier to convience a JP hater to join the JP Army. Most people learn the hard way that unless you plan to stay in your property for a while you'll lose money. One girl I know bought a house and moved in with her fiance, they expected to get married in a year and start making kids. Six months later she kicked him out of the house. It took her 9 months to sell the house, and she had to take $5,000 less than what she paid for it. She also lost $10,000 closing costs. My friend bought a 1-bedroom co-op and paid $10,000 closing costs too. His mortgage is $1500, maintenance is $1000. Similar apartments in his building rent for $1450. Two weeks after he moved in, a water pipe burst and his apartment got flooded. He is currently suing both the co-op board and the insurance company to pay for damages, in the meantime he paid for repairs out of his own pocket. Yet another kid I know couldn't sell his 1-bedroom for 6 months. So far he had 2 buyers, both were rejected by the co-op board. He got a huge promotion and needs to move to Westchester, meanwhile his daily commute is 2 hours driving one way in traffic. Plus he comes home to his pregnant wife who bitches about how much they need a second bedroom for the baby. Sux to be them, doesn't it?
  20. Let's see: -- Own property: no, because it's not practical; why spend all your money on mortgage, maintenance, property taxes and repairs when you can rent a comfortable place and have plenty of disposable income? -- Save for retirement: yes; have a healthy emergency fund in liquid savings too -- Own business: no, because a corporate career is more rewarding financially and you don't have to work as much and as hard -- Advanced degree: yes, MBA in progress. -- Spend money clubbing: you've got to have a hobby, and it's not that much money... although I admit that I have to stop buying bottles all the time -- Luxury vehicles: yes, you've got to reward yourself. -- Getting old: mature and confident men don't care about 19 year olds and don't go to clubs to peep them; they go to hear the DJ and drink with their friends
  21. Really?! :love2: :love2: You got it, lolasizedee: http://bbs.clubplanet.com/sports/306678-special-post-lola-sports-section.html#post2985284
  22. Hey, Lola, you asked for this: http://bbs.clubplanet.com/2985021-post19.html Now, where the bra shot?
  23. So does everyone think that Pacha is doing a great thing by giving the main floor to NYC DJs? If so, why don't you guys show up? The other time when I was @ Pacha on an NYC DJ night it felt like an all-Asian party. Everyone spoke some Oriental language and danced in a specific Asian manner. That made me wonder, what would Pacha be like without Asians? On Friday I got my answer - without Asians Pacha would be empty. Seriously - there were barely any people (maybe 10 Asians among us). Apparently most people went just because they could get in for free. The night started with KTU crap for a while, but beats got harder and eventually it was all progressive house. Nothing reeked of Electro - thanks for that! The track selection was very good, but you can't create a vibe when the club is completely empty, other than a few very unfriendly girls who preferred to dance on their own. So Max Petersky & Co. occupied the woofers, drinking up and enjoying the incredible sound system. On that note - compliments to the tall South American bartender with 36DDs! Great job handling six Russians! Promoters, take note! Clearly the solution to the overcrowdedness of Crobar is to ship people off to Pacha, that way both clubs have people and are not overcrowded. Instead of posting way-too-many threads on CP, Pacha promoters should provide free shuttle buses from Crobar and free admission for people who abandon the Crobar line. Go NYC DJs!!!
