Think about it, it's easy to make a stink that they were "going after the gays" making Fox 5 look really bad and hitting them with a boycott of their sponsers etc... vs. "look at your drugged up kids," type crap. Yeah, I think that both communities are very influential. The kids might not be influential, but the parents of those kids are and that might have caused or influenced in some way that the measures for tighter security at Buzz be established. Equally, the gay community might not have wanted the authoties to get involved in this and threathened some sort of action against FOX or something. In May of ’99 local Fox affiliate (Channel 5) reporter Elisabeth Leamy, went into the club with a hidden camera. Although she caught footage of ravers admitting they use drugs, other commonplace behavior caught on the grainy video was reinterpreted and sensationalized: she claimed that cigarettes were “joints,” raver hugs were "sex acts," glowsticks and water bottles were "paraphernalia." Even more ludicrous was the staged footage of powder left on tables by ravers "who had gone off to dance." Ms. Leamy's suggestion that illegal drugs were left in plain sight on tables was so preposterous that you laughed out loud when you watched. But to quote Green Velvet, “it was no laughing matter.” Under pressure from local authorities, Buzz was forced to shut down temporarily. The effect that this newscast had on the city was tremendous. Mary Morris, a self-proclaimed geriatric raver who works at The Washington Post, agreed to a TV interview in which she vigorously defended the club as a "place that she feels comfortable taking her kids." Mary helped organize two boisterous Friday night protests outside the Wisconsin Ave. offices of Fox 5. Thanks for getting me all caught up. I didn't come here until Dec. 2000, so I didn't know the whole history behind all of it. Obviously I've heard about it, but thats typical Fox News, they love the scandalous shit and digging up dirt and making stupid shit up. Thats fucked up though, they brought it to another level with this one.

Yeah but if I remember that one correctly it was a little more respectable. If it is the one I recall, it showed a bunch of little kids 12-15 yrs old getting all fucked up and was not organized at all and usually outside. Fox deliberately attacked a scene and a venue, and went in with undercover camera's and made assumptions and accusations. At least 20/20 actually showed the drug use and these little kids passed out, right? 20/20 is much better then FOX 5 news, IMO.

I agree, the 20/20 one showed some messed up stuff going on at some outdoor raves if I remember correctly. However, they did their fair share of sensationalizing, as any news organiztion will do for better ratings...

nourishment
I'm not laughing because you lost your password. I just think it's hysterical that Vic (and I) got suckered into thinking you were new to the board. Like you totally thought we could all see through your disguise or something. It was as if you forgot you weren't posting as you anymore. The whole dialogue and the way it went down with Vic asking what he thought was a total stranger to hook him up on a blind date...that shit was too damn funny. Think I'll go back and read it again.
