dont know about mysteries (harry potter!!! actually very entertaining and you can kill the book in a coupla hours).

but guy who wrote trainspotting has a new book coming, porno, irvine welsh has other good book.

i like eco...foucault's pendulum, name of rose are the usual suspects. Altho my favorite is his satire of modern features, bunch of essays, called how to travel with salmon..usually hard to find but hilarious.

milan kundera is really good, almost anything from him.

gabriel garcia marquez, really good if haven't read 100 nites

those are your usual suspects........i'm sure dean koontz, anne rice, grisham, crichton, and all those peeps will pop up later in this thread....

I really don't know what you are into....but here are some books that I have read, that I like.

The Alienist-Caleb Carr

Behold a Pale Horse-William Cooper

The Ambient Century"from Mahler to trance"-Mark Prendergast

*Caleb Carr writes good Mysteries

hope that helps

I just finished a Dean Koontz book - it was really good but i cant remember the name of it. I also just finished Hannibal... excellent excellent book much better than the movie. I now have to read The Red Dragon and complete the series with Slience of the Lambs

by summer book, do you mean: quick read, light, good pool / beach material?

if so, try anything by Carl Haissen (sp). he wrote Get Shorty (i think) and Striptease ( the book was much better and less bloated than the boobies...i mean movie)

my favorite is Double Whammy

Tourist Season is good too

They are sorta mysteries, but mostly just wickedly funny.

I finished "Lord Foul's Bane" awhile back

It was about a leper who was outcasted by society.

The main character is trandsported into a fantasy

world which clashes against all his beliefs.

A wonderful fiction fantasy about the nature of survival.

:flame:

Still...nothing beats the Dune saga.

I usually go by the New York Times bestsellers. Has anyone read anything by Anne Rice? She writes about vampires and most of her books take place in New Orleans, right?

If you've never read anything by her you should check her out... the earlier books in the vampire chronicles are really good (haven't read the more recent ones so I can't vouch for them)... Interview with a Vampire's the first one.
