"by Norah Salazar"

Originally from Miami, USA, Oscar G began playing music at the age of 12. Since then, he has been involved in the music industry as a DJ, producer and remixer. In 1991 along with partner Ralph Falcón, Oscar began work on their label Murk. From those days, Murk released tracks such as Liberty City’s ‘Some Loving’, Interceptor’s ‘Together’, both that became favourites of Danny Tenaglia and Junior Vasquez.

A member of the group Funky Green Dogs, Oscar G was involved in the release of three Billboard Dance hits, ‘Fired Up’, “The Way’, ‘Body’ and further received four ASCAP songwriter awards. You can catch Oscar G almost every week as a resident at Space, Miami and in Philadelphia’s 2-4 Club. In the past, he has appeared at international venues such as Ministry of Sound (London), Pacha (Ibiza), Yellow (Tokyo), Echoes (Italy), etc.

Most recently, his latest track ‘Dark Beat’ on Twisted has been receiving much play both locally and internationally. This track has made #2 on Billboard’s Break Out chart and receives major support from international DJs such as Pete Tong, Lottie, Steve Lawler, Tom Stephan among others.

A couple of years ago I was playing in Japan. At thits, ‘Fired Up’, “The Way’, ‘Body’ and further received four ASCAP songwriter awards. A couple of years ago I was playing in Japan. At the peak of the night they started tossing people up into the air! I had never seen anything like it. It was actually kind of scary.

4. When was the last time you slept in your own bed?

4 nights ago; this was a loooonggg weekend.

5. How many frequent flyer miles do you have at this moment?

I think only about 80,000. I haven’t travelled much this year because of my residency at Space in Miami.

6. To what degree do you think the internet is having an influence over dance music?

I think it has had a huge impact on dance music, both good and bad. Media and business-wise I think it has been great; it is very easy for people from all different parts of the world to communicate on a regular basis. And it is a great way to meet people you otherwise would not have a chance to. On the other hand, downloading and sharing of mp3s is really taking a toll on dance music and music in general. Record sales are way down and the first ones to feel it are the independent labels who do not have the capitol to bounce back. We are loosing a lot of great underground dance labels because it is simply not feasible for them to stay open due to the mass sharing of mp3s. It is in essence theft, and I don’t think people understand that (or maybe they just don’t want to admit it).

7. With whom would you really like to produce a track?

Sade, I think she is an amazing vocalist and I think her voice would lend itself very wehe peak of the night they started tossing people up into the air! I had never seen anything like it. It was actually kind of scary.

What/where is your favourite club to spin/hang out, and why?

9. If you could try another profession, besides your own, what would it be?

I’ve never done anything else. I live and breathe music. I don’t know, maybe I’d be a carpenter.

10. What’s your philosophy towards life?

Do unto others as you would like others to do unto you.
