Nocturnal & The beach

Have the most to gain. No one really knows whats going on over there. Don't know anyone thats been in the beach (nocturnal is not open yet) but word is they got a kick ass nexo... Now there is a reason why all gas stations and all car dealerships are near each other. This is why i think if the beach got serious or nocturnal (same owners from chi town) they can work. 3 clubs, on the same block, only park your car once, you can go from club to club to club.. We all know with competition comes less cover charges and open bars etc. Then you put a special dj over at space then maybe a NYC dj at the beach, and you got a serious night ahead of you. If the beach or nocturnal had a patio we all know 80% of this board would shoot over there to get away from cheeselini..

Yup... I have talked to the owners of the Beach and Nocturnal, they got big plans!! and Nocturnal is going to be a very advance venue with massive lighing and sound. With their creation they will bring a NY twist to the Miami Night Life.

Beach Night Club is real not a big deal, it had a nice sound system and a very nice LCD Projected Video wall, and chicks a beachware.

I don't know if the upstairs loft is open yet, or the FOam Dance room.

In dance music there is no such thing as "classics"...yeah for the mainstream, for whom Sandstorm is a classic, or something they recognize.

You'll be very, very, very hardpressed to find a top int'l DJ throw in any track older than 6 months unless it's a special remix.

50% of how good a dance tune is depends on how new it is.

Correction my friend for nearly two years Cardozo Nightclub located in the Cardozo Cafe on 13 and Ocean Drive on Friday nights would get pretty packed and on a Saturday Night, that place although not big would get slammed, it only fit a stuffed like 500 peeps and you would have peeps in the sidewalk area as well. But then they sold and half the promoters went off to Bongo's wish has slowed down a bit and definitely not the same crowd, but the women that would go to Cardozo were outta hand......;)

It had to do with the Stephans ... and all the wanna be around ... in any event ... 500 peeps ... including the ones outside on the sidewalk of Ocean Drive ... women were hot ... cause Colombian chicks are hot

About Pacha ... that was waaaaay back ... good location ... but this was before electronic music got established in Sobe ... in other words ... pre-Groovejet/Shadow ...

They tried big venue latin nights at the Shadow location and didn't work ... ever since electronic music grew in popularity ... latin nights are at very small locations at the beach ...

As to classics ... I agree with Southof5th ... on Thursdays at Crobar ... for Dope ... Cedrics throws songs that are two year old ... one after the other ... anthems ... hence ... the respect most of us have for him ...

But could be THE only alternative for big clubs with no good DJs ... they can get a crowd of clueless going ... if you add to that no cover and open bar 'til certain time ... and an extra hip hop room to provide some mix ... you might finally get to pack the place on a regular basis ... a litle bit like what Club Crystal does ...

Your counterpart is that not even a BIG DJ's brother would want to spin there ... ... therefore ... you are destined to cheesiness ... :hat:

Believe it or not, the "model crowd" is into hip-hop in a way. Sad but true...the Euro-trash places...Pearl, Mynt, and Rumi, their biggest nights have some sort of hip-hop/R n B soundtrack. It's mainly because they really don't care.

But for the real crowds, house/trance/tech/electro is and will always be the way to go. It's universal. Hip-hop caters to a specific audience, specifically those who are or claim to be in the situation a lot of rappers espouse.

Maze has a strong Friday night with some decent DJs. Lime Bar too. My only observation so far is the crowd itself has a larger share of what I consider jerks in it, the whole "200 K a year attitude but I really make 40 K" crowd...not to say I haven't had fun there on a Friday, I've always have...but I've run into some morons as of late. Can't screen for it though, so I will applaud Eddie Guerra and co. for making a successful party at a venue that sorely needed it. I can't wait for his birthday party with Jon Cowan, and Stryke's set in May...he clearly reads the boards, and responds to what they ask for. Keep up the good work!

Nerve has come out of the gate with a good lineup so far. Their strong nights are going to be weeknights, the local crowd will save it's butt during the summer. It's a small place, so there's not a huge overhead. Nerve will last the summer....I'd like to see more crowds though for the Fridays they have planned.

Space 34. Do I even have to talk about it? It is going to crush The Beach and Nocturnal. Nocturnal is way behind schedule, and The Beach wasn't even open on Saturday. Space 34 has Lawler, Deep Dish, Tiësto, Howells, Danny Tenaglia, and obviously Roland and Oscar lined up in the next 8-10 weeks. Nocturnal isn't even open, and The Beach has made no announcements since conference. Unless The Beach and Nocturnal have something absolutely phenomenal up their sleeves and are staying mum, 11th Street is going to be a one-club street for quite some time. Njoi is a different market segment (bowling alley), so it's not competing.

crobar's crobar. With the occasional good guest DJ left, there's still a reason to go once a month. Other than Juan and Stefan, there's no strong residents there. Back Door Bamby's a shadow of it's former self...hmm...I think it should move to Nerve for a new injection of vitality. Nerve's promotions and Bamby's style would so work together...especially with the porno comics in the bathroom hehe :)

Level is a hip-hop venue now, pure and simple. Waste of space, available to anyone with 5 million to burn. They're still doing Spring Break parties this week for some reason.

Other venues: Any new venue slated for South Beach is aimed squarely at the hip-hop segment. Whether they open or not is debatable. ZNO is so far behind, it's not funny. After their electricians knocked out power to the entire building one day in March, the city intervened and the place is further delayed. Why am I even bothering to talk about this? :)

Pod I wouldn't call nocturnal out of it yet. They are in the same boat as nerve and maze and crobar. Yet they have a much better location. Being next to space will help.. If they have the pockets they can out bid for the djs that nerve and maze can get. Plus late night hours means djs can fly in from other cities and play at like 3am compared to midnight on the beach. Plus being behind really has no impact on anything. Money talks all else walks.. Any dj willing to play nerve, or crobar, or maze might jump shit to play for much more money at a 24 hours venue.. Plus like i said any patio with a decent dj will own miami in less than a month.. I have no confidence lp will fire his friend cheeslini or that the cheese will change it up...

The day a patio late night party opens up in miami is the day roland gets his extended set. < I'll put money on it..

Right now its not broke, so they don't fix it. But with competiton comes changes.

Not too sure about the Nocturnal building, but The Beach isn't patio equipped. The Nocturnal building still looks like the Baghdad Hilton, so they could easily put in an outdoor area on top. An outdoor area isn't going to guarantee instant success to the club though. You're right, if they have the money and the right promoters, the club will do well, and may try to steal DJs from clubs on the beach. Though opening late may have an effect on their business. If Maze and Nerve are smart, they'll nail down their new-found crop of guest DJs down with some contracts like Space does...

A load of shit if you ask me. It's a crying shame that the building that once held one of the best clubs in the country (Shadow Lounge) now is occupied by yet another hip-hop joint. Fuck 'em. I don't even say Menage, I say "building that used to be Shadow Lounge, and then the abortive Liquid 2.0"
