How To DJ (Properly) by Frank Broughton & Bill Brewster

Recommended Posts

Anyone ever read this book? I just recieved it from the UK. It seems like it reads like a how to manual for every component of DJing from a bedroom DJ to a master-class career DJ.

There are sections in this thing covering everything from beatmatching and blending tracks to building a collection of tracks, back cueing, scratching, harmonizing, and beat juggling. It also has sections on how to get free records and how to get paid.

I am sure some of this will seem pretty obvious, but a lot of it will be pretty useful as well. Just wondering what anyone else who has come across the book thought.

Danny Tenaglia has this book on his office desk! He showed it off to everyone while @ a Be Yourself Gathering back in October at his loft!

The guys that wrote this book also wrote a book called "Last Night A DJ Saved My Life" Its the history of the DJ! Great book!

We use that book for the SCRATCH Dj academy we have here at Pseudo every Saturday. Its an awesome book for the would be dj and has good tips for the more experienced. What it fails to explain though is taste which I guess is more of a personal thing but some dj's out there have no taste in the records they select to play. They just play records Oh well I guess a book cant teach you everything

I disagree regarding "taste". I think every DJ has his/her "taste". It's finding a mutual "taste" to move an amount of people.

I got that book from UK amazon yesterday. I cant put it down. Its good. it covers everything from balancing your tome arm to signing a contract. Regarding taste - everyone should have their own before even picking up a needle or a record.

What was amasing to me - the shipment tok 2 days from some butthole town in UK and my check take 7-10 days sent from cali. WTF?
