The biggest let down and the most ridiculous thing that

Recommended Posts

Wow you guys that was incredible what happened. I am still in shock at what occurred last night, and I am not just talking about the whole Picotto thing. First of all I come from out of town on a regular basis, and I had been looking forward to seeing Mauro spin for over a year and a half now. I can understand that everything is not under the control of the promoter but I think in this case they were highly responsible. Be that as it may, regardless of what happened I think that it is so typical that they have to lie about everything. You guys can never be straight forward about anything. Why do you play stupid when we ask you a simple question? Don’t say it is because you do not know the answer because you can find out if you don’t know, but I would bet that the answer is already known. In this case I am speaking about something like when is (any given DJ i.e. mauro picotto) going to start spinning, or even better arrive. I am sorry but maybe MasoudA and the rest of his team should have considered staying in the whole hip-hop scene. It is beyond obvious that the “team” does not know anything about dance culture, except for maybe a select few. The majority of the “team” does not give a shit about the music, all you guys are concerned with is the money. I understand that money is the reason that you are in business, but that is exactly my point. Those who are successful in this industry have a passion and an understanding of how to do things. This is a much different world than any nightclub. Most of us that go to such events, like Code, are there for one reason. We are not there to get fucked up, we are not there to try to hook up with every single member of the opposite sex at ever given moment, we are there for the one thing that brings all successful events and clubs together, we are there for the music, which I sadly point out is the one thing that the promotional companies in Washington DC do not understand. Don’t try to understand because it is something that can not be found through profit. Everyone that started this and everyone that is still successful do it in a much more professional way. I am not lashing out at those who are involved and do understand what I am talking about, but to those who make up the majority of who is involved, and for the reasons that lead to disasters like last night.

Last night was a joke, and it sucked to be a part of it. So many things went wrong and some one please feel free to tell me something that went right.

First, I am sure everyone can remember those infamous “passes” that many of us received, I assume at Oscar G which is how I got mine. They were supposed to grant those who come regularly free admittance until 11:00. What kind of crap was that Friday night? I got there at least 40 minutes before 11:00 and was probably about 15 people back and I did not make it in before 11:00? Explain that one! What was it too crowded, or was everyone attending to Mauro Picotto in the back room? What a cheep way to get 15 bucks out of someone. I hope I see another one of those being passed out at the end of the night, considering that I ever return.

Second, “He is coming on at 11:30,” “12:00,” “12:30,” “1:00,” “1:30,” “2:00,” “Don't worry he is on his way.” On his way! What the hell is 12:00 or even 1:00 if you knew damn well he was not even there? You don’t fuck with the people like that, it just pisses us off.

This brings me to the next problem his being late. If you realize that there is a slight possibility that a DJ will not make it for whatever reason, in this case he was overbooked, then there better be a back up plan right? There should have been, like booking more than one headliner, so this shit doesn’t happen. Which brings me to the next problem.

His leaving early, wait did he even show up or was it just a dream? (And not the gay ass one that some people consider to be a club) Why was there any confusion as to how or how much he was to be paid? Wasn’t there something in the contract that covered this in all clarity as to if something may occur causing late or no arrival.

Which leads me to the next problem…Why should any of us even consider coming back after this, and after the b.s. last weekend too? The people involved in this should go back to the environment that they are familiar with. Don’t front like you know the music, or even like it, let alone understand it.

Look I was speechless after last night. I was optimistic that there would once again be a place in DC that would be worth going. I do not see how such a series of events could occur, I just don’t. Maybe because some of the people that were apparently throwing a party last night( did anyone see a party last night by the way?) did not even know who the hell Mauro Picotto was. Is this for real, the promoters don’t even know the guys fucking name! I know this wasn’t the case for most of you, I for some reason give you the benefit of the doubt that you at least know the guys name, but I am serious, one of you guys did not know who Mauro Picotto was.

I am sick of even thinking about last night so maybe I will come back later and add some thoughts because right now my head is starting to hurt from the fact that what happened last night was real, very real.

wow, mpaul...I sense some serious hostility! I need to send you some love

look, I don't disagree with all that you say...clearly, if you got there at 10:20 and you were made to wait 40 minutes+ just so they could pocket $15 from you that's bullshit.

but the story I got is that mauro's flight was repeatedly delayed coming in...which probably explains why you kept getting those "1230" "1" etc. answers...but it seems to me that there's not much that the promoters could do about that.

could he have spun longer? sure, I guess so...but that 45+ minute set was one of the most memorable sets I've ever seen and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

all I'm saying is that sometimes I think that we all focus on masoud so much and on the fact that some of his people are not "from our scene" that we forget to enjoy the music and the fact that we're at nation again...and I don't just mean mauro's set, but I thought that the opener jambi spun a solid, fun, banging set.

look I can understand that people are pissed, but things like this are going to happen, whether or not masoud is involved.

wow....mpaul, sorry you had such a bad experience.....

I am a promoter for Code and although I do not agree nor have control over some of their practices... I know they had NO control whatsoever over what time Picotto was coming in.... it was a mess.

He was supposed to arrive in DC at 8:30pm originally, then he missed a flight and was supposed to arrive at 11:42pm.... and then things kept on happening...

I can't talk for the other promoters but I am from the "scene, know very well who Picotto is AND I kept all the people I know informed of what was happening....

so look for my blonde curls next time.....

btw, whoever was giving out passes was not a promoter, probably someone paid by some promoter or a friend or something.... I got passes MYSELF! pretty soon Masoud will get passes too!

Maybe you should have gone with some hot chicks. Or tipped the doorman a 20 since you had free pases, if you didnt want to wait in line.

PS > You mean you dont go to clubs to get picked up?

I love women, I do my thing after I listen to the music. Sure I love the music, but I am still a man.

also, I was not trying to dwell on the things out of the control of the promotional company, but there were way to many things that went on that a new event just can not have happen.

I don't know the full story, but friday was a mess. I've never heard picotto spin before nor did I like his work. So I gave him a chance and I hated what I heard. As for Jambi, no comment. His set was really inconsistant. I've gone to Code 3 times now and I see NO REASON whatsoever for them to hold up the line. For crying outloud the place doesn't even get crowded. BUZZ did a great job of bringing in enough people to fill up all three areas for the most part. There are good promoters in D.C that keep their parties consistant. A good example is M3 and the people who throw RED and 18th st lounge. Solid dj's, great locals, no hassle. Btw, we all know that Sape is the real glow tool here. Only tools pay to get in clubs and try to pick up or be picked up. Stay home and create personals on match.com or other dating services.
