elementx
Question - What would happen if you had full screen DVDs and watched them on a Widescreen TV... Would the black lines be on the sides or would the picture become distorted?

bigsteve8
30" HD tube Loewe Aconda, German television, one of the best picture processors on the market, good for my smaller room. . . baseball game looks great on it, and football always looks great. And there is now one widescreen HD consumer level camcorder from JVC out there . . . HD sets are getting to be a lot cheaper, tubes are down to 1000-1200 for a 30" (panasonic good) and 1600-2000 for a 34". Large rear projection sets are really cheap, but they are big boxes. . Table top rear projection such as the DLPs from Samsung start at 43" and start at around $2800 . All a lot cheaper than last year . . .I used to sell HD sets for the Wiz and Harvey Electronics, all sorts of audio as well, if anyone got any questions, I'm good with dis shit. . . Yup there are high definition front projectors, starting around 2500 for LCD, 5000 for DLP (better black levels, brighter generally). If it is a standard 3-gun big box rear projection, whether high definition or standard definition, the guns will get out of alignment, just the nature of the beast. If you have a rear projection set and see a sort of halo, that's exactly what that is, you need to get it aligned. . . it's not that hard to do, I've done it on my own before, just need to take the time to do it. There are new type of rear projection sets that use a single lens, such as the Samsung, Hitachi, Panasonic DLP (digital light projection) and Sony LCD rear projection sets. . . these sets go on tabletops, are a lot smaller, and weigh a lot less. The 50" Samsung weighs around 90 pounds and is like 17" deep, really small. If you got the green, a DLP tabletop projection set a good way to go, I really like the Samsungs. But with either the LCD or DLP sets, they use a bulb to create the brightness off a single lens, these bulbs need to be replaced, average 5000 hours a bulb, easy to replace. With one lens/gun, no need to calibrate.

It CAN be tabletop FRONT projection, but almost every time is ceiling mount front projection. Table ones always need to be realigned to get a good picture, ceiling much much more stable. Tabletop is for rear projection and can go up to 61" sets. It's rare that the guns need to be realigned every day, sounds like it needs to be professionally fixed. . . generally rear projection 3gun sets have to be realigned every 5000 hours or so. . .
