in addition to the no smoking law... he would like to have any night club with a soundsystem louder than 90 decibels to have seperate liscence and if not they must close at 1:00am... they were tossing this around november 2003 but it looks like it may be coming to life this year...

That sucks...even if it did pass, I'm sure the clubs that arent a problem to the city wouldnt have any problem getting that license. These sorta laws pop up all over the country to give local govts a legal way to shut a problem club down. Clubs that havent been a problem with drugs, violence, ect. wouldnt have problems...but the clubs that the city has had numerous run ins with in the past might have a problem getting it. Just a politcal way to shut places down they dont want running.

The funny thing about all this is that the new law is supposed to replace the old cabaret laws. All people did with their lobbying was open a can of worms. Along with all the other shit that clubs have to deal with they now have to have an Acoustical / Soundproofing Engineer on call... the only thing this law does is allow venues that play background music to have people dancing... Imagine all these bars have to now get soundproofing so they can play music... What's next ?? A permit to allow people to talk to each other??
