So NYC is into progressive house/house...

Recommended Posts

Okay, let's back up for a second. Go back to 1995 when New York's own DJ Keoki released a CD on Moonshine (a label based out of the west Coast). The CD was called Superstar DJ Keoki > All Mixed Up.

The CD is pretty much all Trance, and included a track by Squelch aka Danny Howells and Tim Cross. It included a track by Union Jack, as well as Poltergeist. Guess what? Both are pseudons for Simon Berry. And there is also a track by Humate (with Rabbit In The Moon on remix duties).

On the CD cover Keoki thanks among others Sasha, John Digweed, Carl Cox, Paul Van Dyk, Sven Vath, Mark Spoon, Cosmic Baby, and a few others. So Trance was around in NYC even before the Twilo days.

Taucher's main problem in recent years I believe is the way he sometimes just almost overdosed at some shows. Still, he's a very talented producer that showed up on Sasha & Digweed's late 90s CDs.

Oliver Lieb was always supported by guys like Oakie, S&D, Nick Warren, PVD, etc. Lieb was VERY active in different forms of Trance, especially under names like Hallucinogen.

All the names you brought up were very creative for their time, but for whatever reason their DJ/performance status never became as big as their production status.

That is all fine and dendy. But how come we always get the same people? And I am recognizing the skillz of Eric Morillo, Roger Sanchez, Danny Howells, DT, and all others. They are cream of the crop of house/progressive sounds. But BUT there are TONS of other famous and really good djs that either never been to NYC or been here so long ago that no1 remembers. For example

Humate-one of the most mysterious djs from Superstition label in Germany. Amazing tracks were put out by him consistently throughout the years and played by the likes of Oakie to Diggers. Trememendous live sets with build ups that send crowds HIGH. NEVER BEEN TO USA

Taucher-a one man show. If you ever see him spin live he is doing everything behind the decks: from spinning to acrobatics. Unreal live sets, track selections, build-ups. Been here only ONCE in Webster Hall. I mean I am sure Talla would now allow him to mix 3!!!! out of 17 Techno Clubs.

Union Jack-whoever heard his tracks would sure remember them. But did anyone ever hear a live set by him? Probably only few. Yet he was proclaimed as one of the best artists on Platipus record.

Oliver Lieb (L.S.G.)-I dont think he needs introduction. Some of you might say that he is more techno, but beleive me he has plenty of things to say about progressive and even trance. And he was here in...SOUND FACTORY.

So these are just a few to name. What you think?

You might have misunderstood me. I didnt say that this music was never around NYC. Of course it was. And we had some good times. But having tracks on the cd (Humate, Oliver Lieb, Taucher all appeared on various compilations throughout the years) does not mean it is the same as dj set. And because their DJ performance is not as bis as production, makes it all special. Although Taucher and Humate did spin around the globe, and I beleive Taucher was at Dorian Grey for good 2-3 years. Oliver Lieb had an essential mix back in a day. There is no question that they can spin. Just sad they never did it here. Ok well like I said what other names in proggy style will suit NYC and please do not bring the usual "hottest" djs around. Give me examples of some rarities.

cant think of any rarities of "progressive dj" (i hate labels)...because they all play the same tracks over and over..

and if its not the same track...its the same formula.

i dont know about you but, i dont like my intelligence insulted when im in a club. Its should be an expressive on the fly never heard before type experience.....not a formula driven staged show...kind of like a brittany spears concert ya know....

you don't have to hold a "residency" with GC in order to spin at their parties.

it seems to me that you are just selectively reading posts here. i, along with many other people in this thread, have stated multiple times that we've heard scott project at Limelight's Gatecrasher parties.

he's clearly different from Scott Bond. come on now. :blown:

so nice try! apparently you WEREN'T at all the GC parties!

Are you PMSing or something dear? And apparently YOU are the one who does not read the posts. All I said was that GATECRASHER TOUR INCLUDED ONLY THEIR RESIDENTS!!!! THERE WERE NO GUEST DJs at least not based on the line ups I pulled my flyers from. AND I WAS at all those parties. Probably before you even knew what GC was. So check yourself fool. Furthermore, if Scot was with Crasher and peeps heard him, well good for the peeps. All I said I do not recall. That is all. And it was an innocent question about the confusion. Both are Scotts u know.

(I hate people with attitude especially silly little twats)

I hear that. It is the experience of "a journey" thats what I call it. Some djs are really good at it and it is always a good night if there was a journey.

I love festivals. Did you see line up for Nature One this year? Should be insane. I am still waiting for Godskitchen line up to show up. Last year I heard they had a tremendous festival. The visuals were supposed to be  And I checked kanzleramt. Thats where I read about Laux. Is that a techno label? Or is it more like Superstition that combines few genres?

Yes I gathered that much. The question is what style? Smells like Techno, but wanted to confirm that. And there are few artists there so is it all one genre or is it like Superstition that combines proggy, techno, D'N'B, etc.

i refuse to succumb to using labels anymore....it just minimizes a concept to make it easier to draw lines of war between genres.

the label consists of a few different artists that record elsewhere as well. lot of beautiful sounding releases from there.

darker intricate sounds to melodic chill tracks to inventive basslines that thrash a room. you can listen to many releases.

OHHHH. Now I got it  I thought by "labels" you meant actual record labels not music "labels" My bet.

I will check it out. Although I prefer deeper, darker harder basslines nowdays to sweeping strings. Is that what it is like?
