weyes Posted May 4 Report Share Posted May 4 a car is absolutely necessary. everything is really spread out and the public transportation system is almost worthless. for instance, a twenty minute drive to my work took an hour and a half on the bus; i only took the bus 'cause my car was in the shop. and buses are really spread out, too - they don't get one very close to where one would like to go, sometimes (especially at night), so one could end up in very sketchy neighborhoods (especially in downtown l.a., where i lived up till last month) and have to walk a little ways in empty, very dark areas. and the buses don't run all night, the way the subway does in nyc. carcarcar!!!!!! USC may cost 40g's a year, but its right in the damn ghetto. bums in front of every store and some new gang moving in a couple blocks away. hell yeah.
