TOPIC: Why do you think Temps/Merge dead, XS packed, & what may fix it?

Recommended Posts

  • 2 weeks later...

new york radio and mtv play 80% hip-hop.

girls like to hear stuff they know at clubs.

guys go where the girls are no matter what the dj plays.

dj klutch is one of the best, if not THE best to pull this off.

Don't get me wrong, the old temps days were awesome years for music and denny rips it like no one else. I like house/tribal/hardcore more than anything else and wish it was still like that, but in this business you have to change to survive. So unless the other clubs at the shore change their format their days are numbered.

You can have the hardest, new music expert, best mixer in the world djing and if no girls are in the club, no one will be there.

just my opinion........

I think XS is flat out doing a better job promoting than tempts. It seems tempts is just relying on its past reputation, but with the great job XS is doing it just isn't working.

And it pisses me off because I really don't like hiphop. So I go into XS and get pissed off with all the hiphop, at which point I go to tempts to hear some great music but there's just not that many people and its not as fun as it used to be. I'll always go to tempts for the music & to support Denny, but its frustrating

Tempts needs to do a lot better job promoting, and it wouldn't hurt to knock down the door price & maybe drink prices just to get people back in there (ever hear of how price affects a demand curve?) They would lose money at first, but after getting their core clientel back in there, they would be back to where they used to be - making shitloads of $$ instead of hurting like they are now.

Oh well, I'm sure it'll be packed this weekend, I just hope tempts changes their ways and keeps it packed the rest of the summer.

it's sad how the two places with the better music are not doing well, meanwhile xs and bamboo are packed out every weekend.

im not gonna say anything about xs though, i've been there on a couple nights and have had a good time, i mean they're doing what sells. it sucks though when the dancefloor is pakced when they're blasting hip hop but as soon as a house track comes on it empties out.

don't get me started on bamboo, the music is ass, awful crowd, the drinks are a little cheaper, so i mostly stop by there to get a few and bounce. it's funny cause you still bump into hot girls in there but for the life of me i don't know what attracts them there, it's def not the male population that you see walking around.

maybe next tiem i'll hit up that place with a pair of old navy carpenter pants to fit in more.

IM ONE OF THE PROMOTERS @ XS AND I CAN TELL YOU WHAT THE PROBLEM IS. THE OWNERS BASICLY PUT ALL THERE EGGS IN ONE BASKET. YOU CAN'T PUT 10 PROMOTERS IN 1 CLUB AND NONE IN THE OTHER.(if you own both)

TSETTOS HAS CARRIED THAT CLUB FOR 6/7 YEARS & I THINK I'VE SEEN 1 LIVE ACT THE ENTIRE TIME. NO PROMOTIONS / NO THEME PARTIES, NOTHING. SO OFCOURSE, WHEN SOMETHING HOT & NEW COMES AROUND PPL WILL CHECK IT OUT. THEY SHOULD BE THANKING DENNY & COUNTING THERE BLESSINGS & GO INTO THERE POCKETS & HIRE A SKILLED PROMO TEAM TO SALVAGE THE REST OF THE SUMMER, AND NEXT YEAR.

THATS IF MR TSETTOS EVEN WISHES TO COME BACK.

DON'T BE SUPRISED IF HE DOES NOT.

Tempts does not promote for the longest time.... and its actually starting to hurt them know... PS. cant wait till tommorow and sunday.. Rip it sick Denny....

I live in Li but i was born nyc. I grew up on hip hop rb music and house. Late 1990 till know i listen hve cd and i like the nyc underegound music or what they called nyc after hours party msuic. Why xs and clubabyss and djais are hot cause of hip hop music. KTu is not really a pure dance music station. miami has a pure dance music station and its better then ktu.Too listen to really underground house is at 1am till 5am sat nights and friday. Last night boris was playing some ahrd beats. Most mixed shows on ktu is taped. I can tell wehn sancturary istaped. THey put commercail in the mixed. Ktu you never did that. When you mixed undergound house you put commercial every hour not every 30 munutes thats how you can tell if its tape or not. Im going to temts. Jp at tavern tonight and boris was at tavern friday night. Pdddy ahd aprty in hamtons and q-uinigue was the dj. Iwas at Clubabyss wesnday it was packed but mostely in hip hop room. VIc was ther but manny was great. W

It just seems like all the people who were into house music (esp in the mid-to late 90's and early 2000's) are retiring one by one. That is the same thing that happened to SF. People just stopped going (unless it was a big theme party). Hey, times change.

I am with that group, the problem is everyone wants to be a dj these days, sooo therefore, almost wherever you go, you are going to hear the same music, and half these wannabe djays all download their music and dont pay a dime for it.... Everyones playing the same shit, no one record shops, who the hell wants to go out and hear the same garbage house music everyweek that every kid is playing? I dont and thats why I dont go out much anymore, or only go see select dj's.

Everyone needs to stop with the old/classic shit as well. You think thats what the people want to hear, well guess what, if you actually spend time in a record store and play new jams, people will forget about wanting to hear the old shit, they only want to hear the old shit because your new slections suck. LISTEN, SHOP, BUY. Fucking download crusaders, half these new djays probably dont even own turntables!

So besdies all that

house music is dead right now..

(you can thank tired wannabe cd dj's. and the fact that things change.)

i was gonna agree with where you were going until you said that house music is dead right now. it's far from dead. it's dead at the jersey shore that's for sure.

actually going off on a tangeant all these denny supporters were up at arms about how tempts is not really getting packed anymore. i'll tell you whey it's not getting packed, cause his track selection sucks. i was there this past saturday cause we got there really late and xs was crowded (i don't go there for the music btw) so we ended up going into tempts. it didn't get packed all night and the music didn't get good all night. if you're not gonna spin hip hop and stay "true" to house music, fucking make sure the tracks you're playing are on target. he was playing stuff that was over a year old, i mean cmon. if i wanna get ass im gonna head to xs, haha rhymes, but if i wanted to hear good house music it sure as hell wasn't at tempts.

and if i hear that pump it up song one more time im gonna flip out.

i should have put it differently, i dont really mean house is dead, dead.

hip hop/rock/80s thing has taken over nyc in the venues.

people are going towards this for the obvious reasons i stated, thus being everyones a dj, eveyrones playing the same shit, with the exception of some Int'l bigwig djays.

and i agree with what you said as well.
