Grammy's Finally Add Dance Albums

August 13, 2004

In the better late then never category of music awards, the Grammy organization (NARAS) has finally officially announced that they will add the category of Best Electronic/Dance Album to this year's awards. In past years, only remixers were honored for a particular track (generally a remix of a mainstream artist). Yet things are-a-changing for the better in the dance community, in light of the fact that club DJs are judged by peers on how good their mixes are, not just a single track. To show support for the new category, dance music elite in Los Angeles came out to celebrate at the city's latest buzz destination, Spider Club. Movers and shakers seen at the press conference and party included Paul Oakenfold, Junkie XL, KCRW DJ Jason Bentley, bt, The Crystal Method, vocalist Jan Johnson (Paul van Dyk, Paul Oakenfold), who was visiting from Spain, Giant promoter Dave Dean, dance music publicist Alex Greenberg (Sasha, James Lavelle), Mark Farina/Elite Force manager Graham Bell, up and coming DJ James Zabiela (in from London), Virgin's own Dance Product Manager Richard Bridge, and Virginmega.com Managing Editor Kim Taylor.

Weren't Jay-J and Chris Lum nominated for a Grammy for best dance music remix??? On one of their EP's (I think Gimp Limpin' or Love Fixin's) the label says it... :D

They were nominited in 2003 for their Jill Scott remix "He Loves Me (Illegal Mix)", but they didn't win. Roger Sanchez took home the award.
