Due to go on sale in the UK next year, the V8-engined supercar will take the application of Formula One wizardry on production vehicles to the highest degree yet, introducing a new generation of performance technology as yet unheard of away from the racetrack.At the heart of the F430 is a 4308cc engine developing a mighty 483bhp at 8500rpm and 343lb ft at 5250rpm. The result is a 0-62mph time of only 4.0 seconds, coupled with a thundering 196mph top speed - but the real story about this latest Ferrari is in the systems designed to translate these figures into genuine high-performance driveability.Already familiar on road-going Ferraris is the use of an F1-style sequential gearbox, though this latest version cuts gearchange times down to a lightning-fast 150 milliseconds. But the shift paddles aren't the only buttons the driver will have to play with, because for the first time the 'manettino' smart switch, which governs the vehicle's integrated dynamic systems, moves away from the Grand Prix circuit and into Ferrari's showrooms.This is backed up by the use of an electronic differential, also a first on passenger-carrying Ferraris, to help the rear wheels put down all that power, while carbon-ceramic brake discs are an extra-cost option. To help you get into a position where such advanced brakes actually make a difference, the vehicle's aerodynamic systems include a flat underbody and large rear diffuser for increased down-force - again, a direct result of Ferrari's Grand Prix expertise.The price of all this Formula One magic? To be announced nearer, the time, inevitably, as will the vehicle's exact specification.
