patois
Made it out to the fair a few nights ago...my 3rd BCF all in all. All the things you usually love about fairs are there. All the junk food - the Italian sausages, the funnel cakes, ice cream, corn dogs, pizza, popcorn...the great American tradition of fair food. Those looking for ride thrills should get some satisfaction - it's no Busch Gardens or Universal but there is a pretty high vertical towel drop, a train car that revolves every which way upside down and all around...walking around the rides I heard plenty of screams. There was the guy in the dunk booth with his studiously annoying laugh and heckles....this year the guy's laugh sounded like a drunk duck quacking. My husband stepped up to the plate to pit his old baseball arm against the guy...and he got pretty close, but no cigar. Since my hub is pretty short and small, the heckler kept remarking "hey skinny" and "maybe when you're bigger! ha ha." My hub was a pretty good sport about it though. We caught a lumberjack show which featured two guys playing around with chainsaws, hewing out a rabbit (about which one guy said, "that don't look like any rabbit I've ever seen" to which the other replied, "oh yeah? check 1-95") and doing a log race ontop of a log floating in a big plastic swimming pool, which was concluded by the fat guy in overalls toppling into the water with a big splash. We took a round in the high ferris wheel, walked by a boy getting thrown from a mechanical bull, past an impossible rope ladder challenge which no one seemed to be able to master...I always love seeing the animal and horticulture tents. The huge cows with their soft glossy red coats and little calves, the little black prickly pigs, the goats, the rows of cages of picture-perfect hens, bunnies and roosters...then there was the landscaping and skillful exhibits done by childrens' groups.I think the fair's going on until the 28th, so you still have time if you want to go. It's a great time....a good old fashioned fair. And the nights are so nice now...
