Well, there's definitely some serious side-effects to using E, physical and emotional. I'm taking an indefinite break from it, as I had a pretty rough time coming down after my last time.... serious enough to fux0r with my head 2-3 days after I was done. When work and playtime collide.....

It's sorta sad when the government turns a blind eye to the legitimate uses of banned drugs. MDMA, hemp and pot are the biggies...... I'm sure that if more research were done, we might be seeing MDMA prescribed as a way to treat various neurological maladies. Hemp's a pretty solid fiber for clothing, from what I've heard. And pot's medical use is already being testing the courts, after California started pushing to have it legalized for medical uses.

My $0.02.......

Dancesafe posted this about the brain scan thingy...

http://www.dancesafe.org/48hours.html

-----------------------------------------------

Response to 48 Hours and MTV ecstasy specials

11/30/00

On November 30th, 48 Hours (CBS) and MTV aired

back-to-back shows on ecstasy. Fairly comprehensive

and lacking the sensationalism of previous shows like

60 Minutes and 20/20, these two prime time hours mark

a turning point in mainstream media coverage of the

drug. Effective public policy regarding the regulation

of ecstasy and other illicit drugs can come about only

in a climate of rationality and calm, open dialogue.

By reducing the hysteria and presenting multiple

perspectives on the drug, those who use it and why, as

well as the very real problems that can result from

overuse and abuse, MTV and 48 Hours have done a great

service to bringing about such an atmosphere.

The producers of both shows are likely to receive

criticism from extremist drug warriors for reporting

on the medicinal/therapeutic use of MDMA, and for

showing examples of responsible use. If you have seen

the segments and agree that a balanced and

non-hysterical presentation helps facilitate rational,

public policies to control and regulate recreational

drugs, please take a moment to email the producers of

48 Hours and MTV and thank them for their responsible

reporting.

For MTV, use the email form on their website as well

as sending email directly to them at

newsdocs@mtvstaff.com. For 48 Hours, email them from

their website.

There is one thing in the MTV show that needs some

clarification.

Does Ecstasy really put holes in your brain? What was

that brain scan all about?

We spoke to the doctors at the Geisinger Medical

Center in Danville, Pennsylvania to find out just what

that brain scan represented. Contrary to what it might

have seemed, Lynn Smith is not missing her temporal

lobe and cerebellum. Her brain is not hollow, and she

does not have holes in her brain. The brain scan shown

on MTV is a particular type of scan that measures

blood flow in various brain regions. It was taken

approximately two weeks after Miss Smith was admitted

to the hospital for undergoing a psychotic episode.

This brain scan is a different type of scan than those

which are used to measure MDMA's potential neurotoxic

effects. The decreased blood flow in certain regions

of Miss Smith's brain may be related to tissue damage

resulting from poly-drug abuse.
