So Metropolis is opening next week...

as far as the marketing aspects, most of it is being done by most clubs already. hence, it would seem logical Metropolis, will at least do that.

New Ideas are just that "New"... proving you have a new idea seems somewhat unreasonable.. the results of your new idea's will be your success or failure.

McDonald's sells hamburgers, so I guess Burger King should stop selling hamburgers since they sell the exact same thing?? you play the music that brings people in, and pays the bills.

3k plus people hit Space every weekend; which is located in one of the worst neighborhoods in Miami. your average tourist is going to go to the club that is "happening", regardless of the neighborhood it’s located in. Space has already proved that…

opening a 50,000 square foot nightclub is a pretty bold move. opening ANY new business is a bold move; there is no clear cut way to protect your investment. as with any new business there is a risk of losing your investment. the most successful people in business became successful, because they took risk. :)

I don't know, Tony. If it wasn't for the flyers (which you see thrown on the sidewalks on SoBe) and reading nightlife messageboards, I would have never known that a new club is opening. Everyday I pass through FIU's student center and there isn't a single promotion. FIU has 30,000+ students (all campus total). That sounds like a strong market to me. Also, I agree that with great risk, come great rewards (if you can beat your competition). But everyone knows that the act of opening a club in downtown will be met with fierce competition. Risk cannot be eliminated, but steps can be taken to minimize it. I believe strong market research is one of those steps. :D

Well Phil, when I used to attend FIU, which was a long time ago. Usually the club kids with fraternity and sororities (i speak for them cause I'm sorority chic). Most likely they are more aware of the clubs then the rest of university. Remember that FIU is a commuter university, so a lot of people are older and are going there to further their education because their jobs require it or they want a pay raise. I know this cause I was a Criminal Justice major and I had a lot of cops in my classes.

I agree with you on most points, Lisette. I chose FIU as an example. There is also UM (many of the students here drive to school in BMWs, Mercedes' and Porsches), Miami Dade, St. Thomas University, and Barry University that are potential markets (potential is the key word). And why should fraternities and sororities be the only ones to know about these things? Why not extend your marketing dragnet to include all students aged 21 or older? If Metropolis is in it for the money, their number 1 priority should be customer base. :D

Well I was basing it on whe I was going to FIU, which was between 1993-2000. Which is when south Beach was at it's best. Nowadays with all the Reggaeton and Hip Hop, not that many people are in the EDM scene. That I know of, a lot of frats and sororities do have members that do listen to that music or have club promoters within their groups. For Example, I used to hang out with Angel (co-partner of Oxygen) when he was promoting clubs along side Gus. That was the crowd I used to hang out with and back then we went to all the clubs that they promoted which played EDM, Hip Hop, etc. In universities, there is such of mix of different people and cultures that it is kind of difficult to get everyone to like the EDM scene. i remember when promoters go to FIU (i use it as an example cause is the only university I went to) and pass out flyers, a lot of people would throw them in the ground. So yes this group is getting marketed but not all of them like the same genre of music. I bet you'll see more of those people in a hip hop club then an EDM club. I have a sorority sisters that are in the EDM scene so I can use the frat and the sororities as an example cause of the conversations that I have had with them.

Correct again, but Metropolis is a club that offers exactly the kind of music that the majority of FIU students listen to... hip-hop, R&B and raggaeton. :D

We'll see when it they finally put in DJ's that will drag those people to the club. People will continue to be faithful to Space and Nocturnal. Metropolis is a whole new ballpark and it is going to take time for it to build next to two clubs that are competitive with eachother and have very good DJ's playing there. They just open the club with McCartney's tour and with three latin singer's concert opening (Marc Anthony, Chayanne, and Alejandro Fernandez). that is not going to target those people. when they finally get the good DJ's in, that will all change and hoepfully for their sake.

Well, they are supposedly bringing in Junior Vasquez one day and also Derrick May. How many people who attend FIU would you say know who Derrick May is? Now widen your audience to include all of Miami's clubbers: does that number increase significantly? Probably not.

Yet, anyone who claims to know about EDM will know that Derrick May is part of the techno triad (the three djs/producers who basically initiated the Detroit techno movement). Maybe the one thing Metropolis has got working for them is that the EDM "arena" is only 20% of the complex. :D

Maybe that will help them, but of course you got the rest of the ruffnecks floating around the club. I hope it does well, but I don't know if all that mix of music will flow together under one roof.
